Students Enjoy WESTEST Reward Day
st
On the 21 of October our school hosted a free day of fun for anyone who
raised their WESTEST scores by at least one point. There were many stations, such as basketball, bracelet making, bouncy houses, board games,
photo booth, experiments, independent reading, corn hole, and computer
games in the computer lab. For the first and second periods, a movie was
shown for the kids’ entertainment. Snacks and drinks were sold by Ms.
Becky Stalnaker. Once the kids got outside, they played music, basketball,
kickball, and there were four bouncy houses. The kids really enjoyed their reward and they deserved it. We are looking forward to next year and hope to
see many more people there. Raise your scores so you can have as much fun
next year as we did this year and maybe even more!
Club of the Week: Book Club
At the beginning of every month, the Don’t Blink Book Club picks a new book to read.
Halfway through the new month, there is another meeting to assess reading progress. At
the end of the month, they have another meeting to sum up the book.. The club’s name
comes from a classic episode of the BBC series Doctor Who, “Don’t Blink.” There are
25-30 people in the club at the moment. They are currently in the middle of the book. If
you want to join, please wait until next month. To sign up, come to a meeting at the beginning at the month. The book
club’s meetings usually occur during 8th grade lunch. New people
can join this week. A new book
will be started. The next meeting
is this Thursday, Oct. 31. Their
book this month is The Book Thief.
Mrs.Wine-Presgraves is
the sponsor of the Don’t
Blink Book Club.

Patriot Illustrated
Friday, October 11, 2013: Last night the Patriot football team traveled to Mountaineer Middle School for their last away
game of the season. After a tough battle, the Patriots remained victorious, and brought their record to 4-2!
Monday, October 14, 2013: Today the volleyball teams will travel to South Harrison. We wish you all good luck and have
great fun!
Tuesday, October 15, 2013: Yesterday, the Patriot volleyball teams traveled to South Harrison and apparently made a big impression on them earlier; the team didn’t even show up, forfeiting the win to us. Also, the Patriot soccer teams will travel to
South Harrison. We wish them good luck. Leave it all out on the field!
Humpday, October 16, 2013: Yesterday, the Patriot soccer teams traveled to South Harrison to take on the Hawks. The boys’
team brought back the victory and avenged the girls team! Sadly, the girls couldn’t quite grab hold of the victory, but that’s
okay, as long as you left it all on the field.
Thursday, October 17, 2013: Last night, the Patriot football team was visited by the South Harrison Hawks. The Patriots were
looking to bring their record to 5-2, but unfortunately the Patriots were defeated 27-0. The Patriots will play Notre Dame next
week for eighth grade night.
Monday, October, 21, 2013: Tomorrow, the Patriot volleyball teams will be visited by South Harrison Middle School. Let’s
go Patriots!
Tuesday, October, 22, 2013: Yesterday, the Patriot volleyball teams were visited by South Harrison. The varsity team pulled
off the win, and avenged the JV team.
Wednesday, October 23, 2013: Tomorrow, the Patriot football team will take on Notre Dame. Let’s go Patriots!
Thursday, October 24, 2013: Today the Patriot football team will take on Notre Dame for the last game of the season.

Book Review: Anna Dressed in Blood
Anna Dressed in Blood is written by Kendare Blake. It is set in modern times at Winston
High School. The main character’s name is Cas Lowood. Cas becomes friends with Carmel, a popular girl at his school and Thomas, who is not so popular.
Cas has inherited something from his dad that not everyone should know about; he’s a ghost
hunter. He moves from town to town killing already dead ghosts. His dad was killed by something
that Cas doesn’t quite know about, but it is following him. Carmel and Cas cross paths right off and
they go to a party together at Kakabeka Falls. Things are awkward for Cas when they first arrive because he doesn’t know anyone there. After he breaks the ice with a couple of Carmel’s friends, everything was going great. He hears a couple of ghost stories, but nothing interesting. Then out of nowhere, something catches his attention. One boy is telling a ghost story about a young girl murdered
on her way to the dance, but that’s not really what happens. He follows this ghost in attempt to kill
her, but that doesn’t quite work out. You will have to read the book if you want to find out.
This is a very good book; it’s in the top three that I’ve read this year. I give this book five out
of five stars. This book is in our library and is an Accelerated Reader book worth 12 points.
Ask Phoebe
You can find the “Ask Phoebe” box in the library on the check-out desk. Put your questions in and we
will be happy to help. Please don’t get angry or feel left out if your question does not get picked.
Dear Phoebe,
My mom and dad hate me, I feel like I’m nobody! Please help me. I know you will know what to
do?
Sincerely,
Worried Child
Dear Worried Child,
Your parents don’t hate you. They are probably just going through hard times. You should talk to
them and let them know how you feel. The teachers and counselors in this school care about you,
and they are here to help you. You might want to go to one of our counselors to talk to them. They
might be able to help you more than our advice can.
Sincerely,
Phoebe
Dear Phoebe,
I am in 5th grade and I want to be a part of the cool group. How can I do this?
Sincerely,
Worried 5th Grader
Dear Worried 5th Grader,
Being cool isn’t cool. Be yourself. Don’t try to blend in with others.
Sincerely,
Phoebe

Students Learn About College During College Exploration Week
The week of October 25 was College Exploration Week at RLBMS.
Teachers made posters about the colleges that they attended and some spoke
during morning announcements about their college experiences. Also, the
eighth grade took the ACT
