RLBMS Students Show PRIDE Behaviors
This school year the teachers have decided to continue the PBIS program. The
program was part of the school’s strategic plan for the past couple years. The main
points of PBIS are to show students only good behavior will be rewarded, to reduce bad
behavior, and to teach students how they’re supposed to act. Most of the staff has been
trained for this program. If you do something good or are behaving, you can earn tickets.
You exchange the tickets for Patriot Bucks. The Bucks let you buy certain rewards. Rewards are mostly no-cost privileges such as homework passes, game time, going to
lunch early, and some grade levels will be offering bigger rewards at the end of each
nine weeks. There were also some changes in the program this year; the biggest one is
that they introduced the Patriot P.R.I.D.E acronym. Each letter represents a word telling
you how the teachers and administrators would like you to act. P.R.I.D.E stands for PPrepared R-Respectful I-Involved D-Dependable and E-Exceptional. The teachers are
currently figuring out what to do to make it appeal more to the students .They’re asking
what they like about it, whether they like the stamp cards better, and which rewards.

Ask Phoebe
Dear Phoebe,
I’ve been having trouble getting the girls. Maybe it’s the way I flirt; I
use cheesy pickup lines and they think I’m joking. How do I get them?
Sincerely,
Pickup Line
Dear Pickup Line,
I would suggest using a
more modest pickup line, so
that they know you will want
to start a relationship. You
might say, “Do you live in a
cornfield, because I am stalking you?”
Sincerely,
Phoebe

Around the School by Taylor Beam and Dylan Gay
Last issue’s Around the School question was:
Who does the RLBMS Football Team play against on October 21st?
Jordan Gay guessed the correct answer that the team will play against Elkins Middle School on October 21st.
The schedule is posted on the bulletin board outside the main office.
New Question: Who is the youngest teacher at RLBMS?
This week’s student winner was Jordan Gay. Read
each issue of The Patriot Times and answer the
Around the School question for your chance to win.
If you know the answer, then write it
and your name on a
piece of paper and
put it in the Around
the School box at the
library circulation
desk. One correct
answer will be chosen. We will print
that student’s picture
in the next issue, and
the student will win a
prize from our store.
Book Review: Who Could That Be at This Hour?
Who Could That Be at This Hour?, written under the pseudonym of Lemony Snicket is the start of a series aptly named All
the Wrong Questions. Like most of Lemony Snicket’s work, Who
Could That Be at This Hour? has a storyline submerged in mystery and characters shrouded in misfortune. This particular tale is
of a young (and fictitious) Lemony Snicket who is beginning an
apprenticeship in a distant, fading, and entirely unfamiliar town.
This schooling is as unusual as they come; most people, for example, don’t typically hang from hawsers hundreds of feet in the
air. Who Could That Be at This Hour? is certainly quirky, but it’s
worth the read for anyone who has even mildly enjoyed any of
this author’s works. If you've never read any of Lemony
Snicket's works, I encourage you to start here. His characters are
as unique as you’ll find, and the plot is atypical enough to be
called absurd. Despite this, Who Could That Be at This Hour? will keep you asking questions;
just make sure they aren't the wrong ones!

Patriot Illustrated
Football
The Patriots played against the Lumberport Cougars Thursday, September 17.
The Patriots have lost two games this season and were ready to win. The Patriots
were prepared to take the win against the Cougars. They were tired of being “the
easy team” and were about to prove it. The final score was 17-20. The Patriots
showed everyone they were ready to win. The touchdowns scored were by Nic
Kuhn, Will Kuhn, and Jacob Heater. A two-point conversion was scored by Ryan
Smith. Jared Griffith missed his first field goal attempt that night, but has already
improved his kick and is ready to make some goals this season. The next game is
Wednesday, September 23. Good luck Patriots!
Girls’ Soccer
The RLBMS girls’ soccer team played away at South Harrison Wednesday, September 16. The girls were frustrated from losing twice in a row against Buckhannon and WI, putting them at a 0-2 record. The previous games both resulted in a
0-6 loss for RLBMS. The Lady Patriots were sick of losing and wanted a win.
South Harrison thought it would be an easy match due to previous years’ playing.
The Lady Patriots knew that it would be a hard fought battle. If they wanted to
win, they would have to work extra hard. The Lady Patriots gave the Lady
Hawks a run for their money. The ending result was 3-1 with the Lady Hawks
taking the victory. This is a big improvement for the Lady Patriots. Olivia Krinov
scored the goal for RLBMS resulting in a bit of hope for the team. The boys’ and
girls’ soccer teams play on Monday, September 21. Good luck Patriots!

Game Review: The Game of Clue®
The game of Clue® was invented by an English
couple. Mrs. and Mr. Pratt were a retired couple
who used to be investigators. After many years
of perfecting the mechanics of the game and filing a provisional specification in 1944 at the
Patent Office, Mr. and Mrs. Pratt visited Waddington's Games in Leeds, England to discuss
the possibilities for its manufacture. They were
accompanied to the meeting by their friends,
Mr. and Mrs. Bull, who had already invented a
successful game called Buccaneer. CLUE® is
today sold in over 40 countries from Brazil to
Sweden, New Zealand to Abu Dhabi. In England, the game is called “CLUEDO,” and in Brazil, “Detective.” The game is sold all over the
world and called many different names.
