Loudin and Finster Earn BOE Awards
Mr. Loudin was awarded the Teacher of the Year by the Lewis
County Board of Education last month. We asked Mr. Loudin “How
do you feel about getting the award?” He said he feels honored because there are so many deserving teachers in the schools. We also
asked “How did you get the award?” He said “I was nominated by
the administration and I also wrote a
short essay about what I thought
was rewarding about my job.”
Also, Mrs. Finster was named Service Person of the Year by the
Board. We asked Mrs. Finster how
she felt about getting the award. She said “I was surprised.” She has
been teaching for over 20 years as an aide. She started out as Pre-K
and then moved to middle school. She has seen a student take his first
steps and speak his first words. In middle school, she saw kids get up
in front of the classroom for a project. Written by Kelsie Allman and Amber Gaines

RLBMS Students Attend Pep Rally
A pep rally was held outside on the field on Thursday, September 26. All the sports teams were recognized and the cheerleaders did some cheers for them. Also, Mrs. Turner and her first RAZE group did an
activity to highlight tobacco use prevention. National Junior Honors Society hosted the rally. For entertainment, they asked grade level teams to do the Dougie, a funny dance. The seventh graders led by Mr. Stansberry performed the best and were given the Spirit Stick.

Book Review: The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
The Outsiders was written by S.E. Hinton, a 16-year-old girl at the time. It takes place near a movie theater in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The main character’s name is Ponyboy Curtis. He has two older brothers, Sodapop and Darry. Ponyboy is fourteen years old,
Sodapop is sixteen going on seventeen, and Darry is twenty years old.
Ponyboy is very shy, but opens up when he wants to. Sodapop is very outgoing and a
total chick magnet. Darry is very responsible but knows how to have fun with his little brothers.
Other characters in this book include Dallas, Johnny, Two-bit, Steve, Marcia and Sherri, called
Cherry. All of the characters are outgoing in their own ways. However, some of them are very
quiet. Two-bit is very outgoing. The friends normally go to drive-in movies in their spare time.
In the book, there are two groups called the Greasers and the Socs. The people on the
Greasers’ side are Dallas, Johnny, Two-bit, Steve, Ponyboy, Darry, and Sodapop. The Socs include Randy, Bob, and David.
One night, Ponyboy is walking home from a movie when he is jumped by the Socs.
Luckily, his gang is there to stop the Socs and he walks away with just a couple bruises. These
fights go on throughout the whole book and it causes two of the Greasers to run away.
This is a very good book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good read. I
would give this book five out of five stars. It has a well-written plot and an enormous amount of
action. This is an Accelerated Reader book worth seven points.

How to Recommend a Book in Our Library
Looking for a good book to read? Or do you want to tell your classmates about a
really great book? Here are three ways to recommend a book in the library:
1. Our Favorite Book Bulletin Board—Create a
small book and tape it to the blue paper outside Mrs. Smith’s office. Ask Ms. Kaia to
help you.
2. Add a gold star to a
book—When you check
in your book, ask a library assistant or Ms.
Kaia to put a gold star in the back. They will add it to
the list that is taped to the first table and Our Favorite
Books Bulletin Board.
3. Comment on the Book Blog at the library Edline
page. All comments must be approved by Ms. Kaia
before they appear.
