Are You Ready For Spring?
WESTEST 2 will start at the end of April, April the twenty-eighth to be exact. Students will
be taking one subject of the test a week. Fifth grade will be taking their part of the test on
Monday on each of the following four weeks. Sixth grade will be given their part of the test
on Tuesdays in the following four weeks. Seventh graders occupy Wednesdays and eighth
graders will test on Thursdays. Fridays will be the day for students to make up any missed
test. The schedule will be the same except for election week. Fifth graders will be testing on
Monday, Tuesday there will be no school due to Election Day, Wednesday sixth graders will
be testing, Thursday seventh grade, and eighth grade on Friday.
WESTEST 2 has the four major subjects including English, Math, Social Studies, and Science. There are two sub-sections in each major subject. This test is not timed and will be taken online. When scoring this test there are different range categories based upon the total
amount of Common Core you learned over the year. The scoring ranges within the subjects
differ from novice being the lowest and distinguished being the highest.
Preparing for WESTEST 2 is not always as difficult as it seems. Teachers usually discuss
how to prepare for the test during class. Throughout the year teachers teach you the basics of
the test. The weeks before the test, teachers will review everything you need to know to succeed. What is advised for you to do is the night before testing, go to bed early, and get a lot
of rest, and then eat a healthy nutritional breakfast.
Hard work does pay off. Awards will be given if you increase your test scores from the previous year by at least
one point. When raising it by at least one point, you receive a medal. If you raise it by fifty points or more, you
receive a trophy. At the end of testing, those who raise
their score by at least one point in each subject attend a
free reward day. During the reward day many activities
take place. Last year students rotated between inside and
outside stations. Inside stations included bracelet making,
computer lab, board games, pictures, basketball, and science lab with Mrs.Barbo. Outside activities included a
blow up obstacle course, a blow bounce hose, and other
games.

Patriot Illustrated
There was a tournament and the Patriot girls softball team had won their
first game against Ritchie County 8-4, and then unfortunately fell with their
second game to Braxton 14-4. Also the girls Softball team played Bridgeport
and lost 14-6 on 4-9-14.
The very first boys and girls track meet will be held on the 12th of April.
Jacob White being the demigod he is, leading the long jump with a high of
16ft. While Adam Cutlip with a size 9 shoe leads the high jump.
Cody White is still dominating in soccer, even though he’s not playing
for RLBMS. LeBron James is the best soccer player in the NFL. He was recently red-carded when he slammed it on Peyton Manning to get the winning
goal. Kevin Durant released a new shoe for his fellow tennis players.
Joseph Rubio is repping’ the white socks today on 4-10-14. Sam Snider’s
basketball flow is off the rim. Luke Dublin wears the same shoes as the illustrator, but different colored. Muhammad Ali is still in the NFL and leads the
boards with most spikes in one game, giving his fellow baseball players a “leg
up” in wrestling championships. Hunter Mitchell is the fastest person I have
ever met in my entire life. In my opinion, he would easily get first in all his
track meets. Jared Skinner is still struggling to read his new book named
Thomas the Train, but with encouragement he may finish it in an estimated

Television Show Review– Fullmetal Alchemist
Fullmetal Alchemist (the anime) started out as a manga series written and illustrated by Hiromu
Arakawa. The world is styled after the European Industrial Revolution, set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques. The story follows the
Elric brothers Edward and Alphonse, who are searching for a philosopher’s stone to restore
their bodies after a failed attempt to bring their mother back to life. When they failed, Edward
loses his left leg and Alphonse loses his entire body. In a desperate effort to save his brother,
Edward sacrifices his right arm to affix Alphonse’s body to a suit of armor. A few days later an
alchemist named Roy Mustang visits the Elric brothers and
proposes that Edward become a part of the State Military of
Amestris in exchange for more research materials to find a
way to recover their bodies. Later Edward’s left leg and right
arm are replaced with auto mail, a type of advanced prothstetic limb, built for him by his friends Winry Rockbell and
her grandmother Pinako.
