MasterCard Card Security Fact Sheet ® MASTERCARD CARD SECURITY FEATURES Securing the payment system is everyone’s responsibility and merchants still are the first line of defense against fraud. This fact sheet is designed to familiarize you with important card features present on all MasterCard cards and what action you should take if you suspect fraud. HOLOGRAMS Every MasterCard must have one or more of the following: The MasterCard Global Hologram Whether it appears on the card front or back, the MasterCard Global Hologram has a three-dimensional repeat pattern of the words, “MasterCard” printed in the background. When tilted, the repeat pattern will reflect light and appear to move. JULY, 2015 1 MasterCard Card Security Fact Sheet ® The Debit MasterCard Hologram Whether it appears on the card front or back, The Debit MasterCard Hologram has a three-dimensional repeat pattern of the words, “Debit MasterCard” printed in the background. When tilted, the repeat pattern will reflect light and appear to move. The MasterCard HoloMag®* Holographic magnetic tape (HoloMag) may be used in lieu of a traditional magnetic stripe and MasterCard Hologram. *HoloMag® is a registered trademark of OpSec Security Group, Inc. JULY, 2015 2 MasterCard Card Security Fact Sheet ® The MasterCard Premium Brand Mark Certain top-tier MasterCard cards (World Elite™ MasterCard®, MasterCard Black™, and World MasterCard Black Edition) replace the MasterCard Red & Yellow Brand Mark with a silver holographic MasterCard Premium Brand Mark. The MasterCard Hologram must appear on the card back. The MasterCard Premium Brand Mark — Chip Card Option When these cards carry an EMV Chip, they are qualified to use the MasterCard Premium Brand Mark — Chip Card Option in lieu of a MasterCard Hologram. While there is no visual difference in design from the standard MasterCard Premium Brand Mark, the MasterCard Premium Brand Mark — Chip Card Option incorporates state-of-the-art covert security features. JULY, 2015 3 MasterCard Card Security Fact Sheet ® SIGNATURE PANELS A tamper evident signature panel is required on all MasterCard cards in one of the following formats: A standard MasterCard signature panel featuring the “MasterCard” repeat pattern printed in multiple colors at a 45° angle over a white background with an extended white box for the Card Validation Code (CVC2). A custom-color MasterCard signature panel featuring the “MasterCard” repeat pattern printed in a single color at a 45° angle over a custom color background with an extended box for the Card Validation Code (CVC2). A generic signature panel whose color and design are at the discretion of the issuer, provided the signature panel is tamper evident, ISO compliant, and includes an area/box for the Card Validation Code (CVC2).
