Given the tragedy in our own backyard at Clackamas Town Center on December 11th; KUPL came together with Duke’s Bar and Grill to hold a Benefit Concert. The Clackamas Town Center Benefit Concert featured headliner Crystal Bowersox from American Idol as well as several local country artists and raised over $8000 that was donated to the victims’ families of the shooting. The KUPL Stars and Guitars concert on September 9, 2012 featured Craig Morgan, Lonestar, Dustin Lynch, The Mavericks and local Police Officer and Country Artist; Kurt Van Meter. Over 3000 listeners attended the outdoor show at Alderbrook Park in Southwest Washington and a portion of the proceeds was donated to several Military and First Responder charitable organizations. The KUPL nonprofit Friends and Neighbors project helps local organizations that would not otherwise have the funds or resources to promote their charitable cause and gives them a voice on the station. This project has grown so large working car washes, pancake breakfasts, donkey basketball games in addition to building houses and participating in ‘runs’, ‘walks’ and a variety of many more fundraisers that KUPL has dedicated a station vehicle and manager to schedule these events. In 2012, KUPL contributed over 5000 staff hours to public service activities and causes in our area, supported over 225 nonprofit community initiatives and produced 10 major fundraising events. A proud sponsor of several live and local events, KUPL participates in the Annual Shamrock Run (35,000+ attendance), the Polar Plunge benefitting The Special Olympics, and the Toys for Tots in partnership with The U.S. Marines. KUPL celebrates the passion of the local community by setting up an exciting and inviting atmosphere with games, prizes and of course music.! 2012 Stuff a Bus for the U.S. Marine’s Toys for Tots In 2012, KUPL continued it’s annual partnership with the U.S. Marines and Safeway to collect toys and money for local families and children. With four broadcast/remote stops, KUPL and Safeway were able to fill an entire school bus donated by the Tigard School District with new toys for children during the holidays. Hunter Hayes and Big and Rich in the KUPL Bing Lounge Performance Venue KUPL is an active member of the CRB, the CMA, the ACM and a CMT affiliate. We continuously promote a series called “New Faces”. A show promoting the new, emerging and up and coming artists to our audience. KUPL has a one-of-a-kind live performance facility known as the exclusive Bing Lounge. Country Artists from around the globe such as Luke Bryan, Vince Gill, Uncle Kracker, The Band Perry, Darius Rucker and many more along with local leaders have performed and spoken in this very upscale and private venue. At KUPL, we are broadcast partners to all of the major award shows, both promoting country music artists and broadcasting from the ACM’s, CMA’s, CMT Video Awards and the CMA Music Festival. These special programs assist the station in promoting our format and showcasing all of our format's major talent in a focused manner. KUPL additionally supports these programs through website exposure, TV partnerships and sending our listeners to the events. KUPL, through major industry involvement, intimate listener contact and every available technological approach; promotes the Country Music format and message. By supporting the message and lifestyle through our charity vehicles, the Country Music format maintains a strong, positive image with KUPL’s audience. And while supporting the established Country Music artist, KUPL also helps to introduce and support new artists for the future Country Music fan base. KUPL’s promotion of Country Music and industry involvement are essential elements in making the Country Music format number one! KUPL also won a “Station of the Year” Award from the Portland Music Awards. For the past 3 years, KUPL has been one of the top Country Music leaders in Social Networking with over 83,000 Face book Fans. KUPL is the Country Radio Station Sponsor of the Annual and Local Oregon Jamboree Music Festival as well as the co-producer of the RoZone CountryFest Concert at the Heritage Rose Festival. The Oregon Jamboree in Sweet Home, Oregon is the state’s largest 3-Day Country Music Festival and last year featured Rascal Flatts, Dierks Bentley and Wynonna Judd. KUPL promoted the festival on air, online and on-site as well as co-promoting the show at other events. The Portland Rose Festival entered into a multi-year partnership with KUPL to produce the RoZone CountryFest Concert featuring Chris Cagle, Kip Moore and American Idol Finalist Casey James in 2012. Located on the Willamette River Waterfront in downtown Portland, show attendance exceeded 3000 people. A portion of Rose Festival proceeds are donated to various local charitable organizations. KUPL, an Alpha Broadcasting entity has been in the Portland market for 28 years as a country formatted station. Commenting on KUPL’s win, Alpha Broadcasting Director of Programming Scott Mahalick said, “We’re honored to have such strong support by all of the country music fans in the Portland Market.” This is the 2nd consecutive year KUPL has won the “Best Portland Radio Station of the Year” Award.
