Around the World in 80 Minutes at Center for the Arts
After six months of hard work
by young students participating in a
local grant program, a showcase of
visual and performing arts was held
on Saturday June 7 at the High Desert Center for the Arts in Victorville.
Children and youth displayed

by The David Irvine Foundation in
cooperation with the Community

Arts is often first on the chopping block when school budgets get
tight, even though studies show that
creative expression enhances passion
and success in academics.
More grants are being sought
in order to continue the program,
in an effort to remind each person
to stay in touch with that creative
child within.
One of the acts was a Disney Villains Support Group skit.
By Ron Postoian, President of AC Plus Heating and Air
Some of you are probably saying the
title of this article is an understatement!
At 61, I now find myself a little less able
to do an entire task like I used to.
I was recently reminded of that when
I was repairing a furnace motor in an attic
in Jess Ranch. The heat of the attic got
the best of me, and I had to get one of my
younger guys to finish.
My point is, perhaps it’s time to
consider establishing a relationship with
a company like ours. The best way to do
that is through our Service Agreement
Program. Having a service agreement with
an AC & Heat company is a good investment. It insures you that you will have
someone out when you want them out.
It offers discounts
in the spring and
fall, and reduces
the chances of service being needed
in the middle of a
heat wave or cold
spell. A service
agreement is relatively inexpensive,
and allows you to
have a little piece RON POSTOIAN
of mind concerning President of AC Plus
your comfort.
Give Leslie a call in our office and she
will go over everything, and answer your
questions. Give us a call at 760 956-3737.

Sterling Commons Events Raise Money for Alzheimer’s Association
Everyone loves a great
Bake Sale and it’s especially
rewarding when the revenue
goes to a great cause. The
staff of Sterling Commons
joined with residents’ family
members to help the Alzheimer’s Association by holding
Bake Sales, with raffles, and
by the sale of handcrafted
items made by family members. With the combined effort, Sterling Commons was
pleased to give the Alzheimer’s Association a check for
$500.
Gary Null, whose wife
resides at Sterling Commons,
makes beautiful handmade
glass creations, which included bowls and wine bottles
that were made into serving
dishes. Gary donated a broad
selection of his work to help
the cause as well as Shirley
Storms who donated her exquisite handmade paper collage cards for the mission.
Stef Freageau was the
force behind the success of
the raffles with her great enthusiasm and sense of purpose
she rallied Sterling Commons
staff to contribute to a great
cause. Sterling Commons will
continue its efforts throughout
the year to raise money for the
Alzheimer’s Association.

Traps to be Aware of Weeks Before
Listing Your Home for Sale
David Greiner, CEO of Greiner Buick
GMC was the M.C. for the Victor Valley
Chamber of Commerce Accolade Awards
ceremony and luncheon.
Victor Valley, CA - According to industry experts, there are over 33 physical
problems that will come under scrutiny
during a home inspection when your home
is for sale. A new report has been prepared
which identifies the eleven most common
of these problems, and what you should
know about them before you list your
home for sale.
Whether you own an old home or
a brand new one, there are a number of
things that can fall short of requirements
during a home inspection. If not identified
and dealt with, any of these 11 items could
cost you dearly in terms of repair. That’s
why it’s critical that you read this report
before you list your home. If you wait until
the building inspector flags these issues for
you, you will almost certainly experience
costly delays in the close of your home
sale or, worse, turn prospective buyers
away altogether. In most cases, you can
WOOD
make a reasonable pre-inspection yourself
if you know what you’re looking for, and
knowing what you’re looking for can help
you prevent little problems from growing
into costly and unmanageable ones.
To help homesellers deal with this
issue before their homes are listed, a free
report entitled “11 Things You Need to
Know to Pass Your Home Inspection” has
been compiled which explains the issues
involved.
To hear about how to order your
FREE copy of this report, call tollfree 1-800-596-5137 and enter 1003.
You can call any time, 24 hours a
day, seven days a week. Get your

According to their daughter, Julie
Miller, their marriage was successful
because Curtis worked nights and
Marilyn worked days! In 1997 the
couple retired to Phelan; then moved
to Silver Lakes in 1999.
Curtis and Marilyn started performing in movie re-enactments and
gunfight shows in 1994, and still retain
many of their flamboyant 1890-style
costumes. Curt continued acting in

actor/singer/artist Mike Moroff, and
Maid of Honor “Annie Oakley,” aka

convinced Curt not to run from the

Sweet 16 Party Attracts Celebrity Guests George W and Abe Lincoln
On July 3 the Senior News had
a Sweet 16 Party at Greiner Buick
GMC in Victorville.
There were announcements,
food, and lots of prizes including a
$300 shopping spree at Home Depot,
won by John Asta of Phelan.
A special appearance by guests
George W. Bush and Abe Lincoln
impersonators.
Patrick Mares (George W) was
born in Tulare, California, and has
lived in So-Cal since 1981. In 2000,
after being told he bore a resemblance to the president, he attended
a celebrity look-alike party in Hollywood, and in 2003, he won a Reels
Award for Best Impersonator from
a video featuring Madonna. He is
enjoys semi-retirement in Hesperia,
and does private events and parties.
Mares pals around Harry Thayer,
aka Abe Lincoln, who frequents the
local grade schools as part of special
education programs.
Both impersonators make charitable appearances at service club and
other non-profit events, and were recently spotted in their distinguished
attire at the Hesperia Moose Lodge,
and at the Hesperia Women of the
Elks fashion show (see page 9).
The two met at the Hesperia Elks
Lodge about three years ago and are
now known as the “Two Presidents,”
and are quite the show Stoppers!
Go to DesertNewsPost.com for
more information on George and
Abe, plus more Sweet 16 photos.

Sterling Inn Fashion Show Benefits A Better Way Domestic Violence
A dinner and fashion show was
held at Sterling Inn on June 7. The
