Saint Paul School Newsletter: October 2, 2015
October 2, 2015 Dear Parents, I am pleased to announce two new academic initiatives to Saint Paul School: 1. National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) for Grade 4 through 6 students, and 2. National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) for Grade 6 through 8 students We were granted Saint Paul School Charters and will begin formulating our by-laws and enrollment procedures. In January/February eligible students will be invited to apply first, based on academic qualifications. Students may want to start thinking about how they exemplify the characteristics of Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship, as they will have to complete on an application. Last night's Middle School Informational night was well attended. If you would like to view the presentation, please visit our school website. As always, I am available to answer questions and/or comments. This discussion will continue so stay tuned for grade level meetings. As we think about the future of Saint Paul School and as discussed at Curriculum Nights and Middle School Informational Night, today parents received a survey (via Survey Monkey). It is designed to help Saint Paul School create OUR SHARED vision for the students, faculty and parents of our school community. It is short, only 9 questions, but open-ended. It is created this way as I want to gather an accurate representation of who we are and what we want to be. No answer is wrong, please be thoughtful and more importantly, honest. Students in Grade 2-8 completed a survey (similar to question 8) asking for their feedback on enrichment opportunities, clubs, activities and extracurricular sports. Results were tallied by grade level and school. Our goal is to offer the top 5-6 this school year, and add each year following. The top choice by grade level: Grade 2: Art Lessons Grade 3: STEM/Science Club Grade 4: Flag Football Grade 5: Tie with Flag Football, Soccer and Cross Country Grade 6: Tie with History Club and Movie Club Grade 7 & 8:Debate Team Stay tuned for more information regarding Afterschool Enrichment opportunities...Maybe even some during the school day when we are inside for the winter weather! As outlined at Curriculum Nights, below is a guide to the planning process for the future of Saint Paul School. * Faculty SWOT Analysis in September * Parent Survey in October * Student Focus Groups in November * Principal Coffee in December * State of the School Address in January This is an ambitious timeline but one I know we can adhere to and share at the State of the School Address in January. He talked about the history of a trial by jury from Ancient Greece to well known trials in Massachusetts. He concluded with a short mock trial where students took on the roles of the judge, witnesses and jury members. Our students enjoyed the entertaining presentation and appreciate even more the privlidge of the right to a trial by a jury. Save on your 2016-17 tuition today! Support our SCRIP program!! The students each brought in an apple. We counted, grouped and graphed them by color . The class also spent time discussing how and where apples grow, various types, and the life cycle of the apple tree. For a Science experiment, the students each made a prediction whether the apple would sink or float. About half thought it would sink and half thought it would float. When we put the apples in water...all learned that apples actually float!
