From Father David... We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. By Your holy Cross You have redeemed the world. Today we begin our annual Stewardship weekends as the people of St. Therese Parish. Here are a few thoughts about why you ought to take seriously these days of generous stewardship for the Lord. Every Lent we take time to re-familiarize ourselves with the works, the committees and the ministries of the parish. As an engaged parishioner, each of us should have at least a basic understanding of the work of God done in our community. Our three Standing Committees each take a weekend to present their responsibilities: Faith Formation, that works to teach and pass on the Faith to all ages; Liturgy, that assists the divine work of the Holy Eucharist, the sacraments and worship; SOFC, that fulfills the social, outreach and fellowship ministries. Why do we do this pastoral process of stewardship during Lent? Holy Lent is the season when the Lord challenges us and encourages us. God invites us to be generous with the many ways of service. We are given the image of Jesus kneeling down and washing the feet of His friends. On the Fifth Sunday of Lent, we will re-commit or choose new ways to be a living and engaged member of the parish of St. Therese. Everyone has something to give: young and old, rich and poor and every other category of people. God is rich in grace, mercy, forgiveness, gifts, talents, resources. The question then becomes: do we recognize that we have received much from the Father of mercies and therefore we want to make a return to Him and God’s people. Join me and all our St. Therese families in this preparation year leading to our Centennial in 2017. May we show mercy to those in need as the hands, the feet, the arms of Jesus, the Mystical Body of Christ in north-eastern Sioux Falls and beyond. May we be engaged in prayer for one another. FR. DAVID LENTEN PRAYER: Vespers and Benediction: This Sunday, February 21st, we will celebrate Vespers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 6 PM. All are welcome! Mary’s Perspective – Stations of the Cross: Tuesday, February 23rd , 2:00 PM. Eucharistic Holy Hour of Prayer: Wednesday, February 24th, 5:30 PM. Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door will be opened to you. Stations of the Cross and Knights of Columbus Fish Fry: See you on Fridays of Lent at St. Therese. Fridays at 5:45 PM begins in the church with the Stations of the Cross and a Lenten meditation. The Knights of Columbus kick off at 6:30 PM, once prayer is over. Come out and practice the works of mercy as we meditate on Our Lord’s Passion and Death on the cross. Bring your old blessed palms: Deposit your blessed palms in the basket on the round Lenten table in the Gathering Space and we will burn them at the Easter Vigil fire. Eternal Rest Grant unto: Clarion Lunski brother of Ray (Gayle) Lunski Teresa Smith grandmother of Rebecca (Ever) Urbina Parish Announcements This weekend we begin our stewardship drive with Faith Formation. Our theme this year: Faith: Grow It. We will be distributing “seeds” for you to grow in your faith. Even the smallest seed of faith can grow with the Master Gardener. CENTENNIAL CORNER: Did you know we have a third class relic of St. Therese in our Church? It is located near the Virgin Mary Statue for the veneration of the People of God. What is a relic? A first class relic is a piece of the body of a saint, a second class relic is an item owned or used by the saint, and a third class relic is an object which has been touched to a first class relic or touched to the tomb of a saint The relic we have is a swatch of Therese’s veil which was given to St. Therese church by parishioner Clete Natz prior to his death. The relic of saints remind us that they lived true human lives in their seeking God. By praying before the relics of the saints, it is a way of being with them and asking for their intercession. BIG SOO COUPON BOOK.: PRICE REDUCTION - NOW only $30 Sunday Brunch? Where to go? Check out the BIG SOO COUPON BOOK for great deals at Denny's, Fryn' Pan, Marlins, Rollin Pin, BOGO buffet at Holiday Inn, Grand Falls Casino and more! Take a Sack & Bring it Back February is St. Therese’s month to help with the Food Pantry. Please pick up a sack from the shopping cart in the gathering space. Just ‘Fill the Sack’ with non-perishable food, household or personal care items. There are donation suggestions attached to each sack. While donations are always welcome, your donated dollars can be stretched even farther. With each dollar you give, Feeding South Dakota can provide nearly 5 pounds of food to the hungry. A single dollar can provide 4 meals, so we can honestly say that every dollar you give makes a difference. - Social Ministry Committee The Catholic Family Sharing Appeal 2016: CFSA challenges us each year to think beyond our walls and our individual needs. At some time in your life, you or someone you love will be served in one way or another from the ministries supported by CFSA. Your gift helps each of the diocesan ministries reach out to thousands, including training our future priests, a respect for life, education in our faith and ministry to the homebound, helping hurting marriages and more. This week you will receive a letter from Bishop Swain asking for your support for this year’s CFSA. Please prayerfully consider a gift to this year’s appeal, fill out your pledge card and bring it to church next weekend. If you do not receive a letter, let the parish office know. Our parish goal for 2016 is $48,500 and 100% participation. I am confident we will exceed this goal, but we need the help of everyone. Remember any amount raised above our goal stays in this parish. Thank you! Community Events Beginning February 10th and running through March 20th there will be prayer vigils held outside the Planned Parenthood facility at 6511 W. 41st St. in Sioux Falls. This will be a peaceful time of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion and increased respect for human life from the time of conception.
