St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Volume 2011-12 Number 4 President’s Message Well, it sure looks like we have several winning football teams this season and I know that we have a winning snowmobile club with a grooming crew and equipment that is ready to go out and go that extra mile. What we need now to go along with that is a winning old fashion winter with plenty of snow, reasonable temperatures and a tourist base like we haven’t seen in many years. We all got a little tease last week when the good Lord gave us what I hope is just a preview of things to come in the months ahead. I already got a number of emails asking when the trails would legally open; you think people are ready for this coming season. Now is the time to get your sled in for a tune-up and a safety check if you haven’t already done so. It’s a good idea to load up with a fresh ... tank of gas with a little Sta-Bil or Sea Foam to keep it fresh and check out those carbides. Remember last year when it didn’t quite feel right going around those turns. Our new bridge over the Rainbow Flowage off of Hwy J is complete. It looks great and you will see photos of it in this newsletter. It’s been a long time coming but it is finally here and is ready for that first sled. Please remember that bridges, equipment and trail improvements all cost money and if we are going to continue to be the top club in the State we all need to work together to reach our goals. Sign-up sheets will be out at the next several meetings. Our first event will be the Snowmobiler's Breakfast on Sunday, January 29, 2012 chaired by Tom Christensen. LET IT SNOW! Upcoming Club Events…. December 2011 Next up will be the 15th Annual Groomer Show, February 1 &2, 2012, chaired by Steve Soltwedel. Last at this point in time will be the Radar Race & Ice Drags on February 3, 4 & 5, 2012 and chaired by Paul Bohnen. Consult your calendars and see if you can donate a few hours to these events. If you are unable to assist at these events please consider supporting our raffle programs. Our next meeting will be our annual Christmas Party at the Pub n Prime. Please get your reservations into Kay Schultz as soon as possible. Have a safe and enjoyable Holiday Season. As I write this there is snow on the ground and the lakes are beginning to freeze over and that means snowmobile season is right around the corner. At the November Membership Meeting a check was present to the club for $300 from the proceeds of the 3-Way Challenge Fundraiser. Thanks to Sportsmen’s Chalet, Bauer’s Dam Resort, Moondance Bar, Smiley’s Pub and Kathan Inn for their ongoing support. There is information in this newsletter regarding this winter’s 3-Way Fundraiser. Please remember to support those who support us… we couldn’t do it without them! You will also notice in “Upcoming Club Events” the Febraury Membership meeting has been changed to Thursday, February 16th since Valentine’s Day fell on Tuesday. If you have any questions regarding trail conditions, you can become a fan and follow us on Facebook. Also, check out our website at www.bo-boen.com Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and we’ll see you on the trail! Pam Gebhardt CLUB RIDES Our first club ride is scheduled for December 19, 2011. We will be riding (snow conditions permitting) to The Granary in Boulder Junction where we will have breakfast. We will leave the groomer barn at 9 am. Non-riders are welcome to join us at the restaurant. Please call (715) 542-4074 to RSVP. I need a total head count of riders & non-riders so that I can call ahead and notify The Granary. Feel free to leave your name and head count on my machine. Gary Shambo ATTENTION NON-RESIDENT SNOWMOBILERS Snowmobiles bearing Wisconsin registration are not required to have a non-resident trail pass, even if the owner is from out of state. A two year Wisconsin registration is $30.00, compared to two trail passes at $70.00 for two years. Almost two times the money is generated with a two year registration as is with two trail passes due to the formula used to transfer gas tax revenue to the state snowmobile fund; the state snowmobile fund is where the money comes from for grooming and trail maintenance. By having Wisconsin registration instead of a trail pass, you save $40.00 every two years and contribute more money to the state fund. It is perfectly legal to have Wisconsin registration on your snowmobile in addition to your home state's registration. You do not need a Wisconsin address; your home address can be used for a Wisconsin registration. Once you have a Wisconsin registration, it can be renewed online at the DNR website. Wisconsin registration applications can be obtained at any DNR office, at any dealer who sells snowmobiles in Wisconsin, and at many dealers out of state near the Wisconsin border. Hwy J Memorial Snowmobile Bridge Completed Trail Boss Report As the snow falls, excitement builds because all is ready. The new flowage bridge is complete, signing has been checked and we are awaiting trail inspections from both Vilas and Oneida County. We have had our drivers meeting and all sixteen drivers are on board and eager to begin their favorite winter work. Keep in mind the corridor 15 re-route will now take you down Big St. Germain Drive instead of thru the Maplewood subdivision. This is our only major re-route in our trail system. As you ride the new Rainbow Flowage Bridge, I hope you realize the importance of responsible snowmobiling. We were able to get the bridge funded because of a process that rewards responsible snowmobiling. We lost Maplewood because of irresponsible snowmobiling. Live and Learn! The Cap/Step legislation in now moving thru the State Legislature. The importance of this legislation can been seen in the approximate 60% pro-rate for last year’s supplemental grooming. That means costs incurred between $250 to $750 per mile will be reimbursed at only 60%-------WE NEED MORE MONEY! Follow this issue in your Wisconsin Snowmobile News and take a minute to contact your legislator for his/her support. All is ready. Let's go play in the snow! Happy Trails, Jim Wendt Our groomer barn received some updating this month with new fascia and soffit on the south end by Jim Wendt and Todd “Crabby” Wiese. Membership News Thanks to everyone who has renewed their membership for the 2011-12 season. There are 378 memberships as of November 9th, including 18 new and 19 secondary members. Secondary memberships are those who pay dues to the Association of Wisconsin Snowmobile Clubs through another club in the state. If you have not yet renewed, now is the time to send in your dues. Our club is only as strong as our members. If you have any questions about your membership, contact me at [email protected] or 630-341-5251. Santa's Elves have once again leaked what songs might be sung at our December meeting. So here's your chance to practice and get your vocal chords in tune for our Christmas get together. Jingle Bells Dashing through the snow in a one-horse open sleigh, O'er the fields we go, laughing all the way. Bells on bobbed tails ring, making spirits bright, What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight. Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh! Let It Snow Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we've no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! It doesn't show signs of stopping, And I've bought some corn for popping, The lights are turned way down low, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! When we finally kiss goodnight, How I'll hate going out in the storm! But if you'll really hold me tight, All the way home I'll be warm. The fire is slowly dying, And, my dear, we're still good-bying, But as long as you love me so, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Santa Claus is Coming to Town You better watch out, You better not cry, Better not pout, I’m telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to town. He’s making a list, checking it twice, Gonna find out who’s naughty or nice, Santa Claus is coming to town. He sees you when your sleeping, He knows when your awake, He knows if you’ve been bad or good, So be good for goodness sake. Oh! You better watch out, you better not cry. Better not pout I’m telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to town. December Membership Meeting Menu Selection: 8 oz.
