August 2016 - Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club
St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club Celebrating Snowmobiling Since 1969! Volume 2016-17 Number 1 www.boboen.com August 2016 Presidents Message—Ozzie Ausloos Most often I am asking for help at our fundraisers, well this time it is different! We have 4 fundraisers in July and August and as of this writing my request to our membership is to just come up and enjoy yourself. Coming up July 30th is a bicycling event in memory of Steve Pulec based out of the Twilight Bar & Grill along with several other establishments in St Germain. Here is your chance to support many of the commercial members in town that over the years have helped our snowmobile club. Not only do we have great snowmobile trails, but we have a really nice bike and hike trail system as well. The 5K Bacon Dash in conjunction with the St Germain Chamber of Commerce Pig in the Pines Bacon, BBQ & Bands. If you have never been to the Pig in the Pines, it is awesome entertainment while feasting on everything pig including pulled pork sandwiches, BBQ, succulent ribs, pork kabobs, bacon wrapped appetizers and gourmet ham sandwiches. . This year on Friday night there will be a 5K run and our club will be helping with registration etc. We will receive a portion of the registration fees for helping. The next event, we are working with the Sportsmen’s Chalet on the 20th Annual Pig Roast. This is another great eating adventure with plenty of door prizes and great camaraderie. We would really appreciate if our members come to this event and show support for all that Laurel and Gary Frank have done over the years sponsoring this event. The final appeal for attendance is our 3rd Annual Drive with the Groomer Drivers Golf Scramble. This year the event will be held at Trout Lake Golf Course. This event has been coordinated by the groomer drivers and has been a whole lot of fun the previous years. We really would like to see our members sign up for these events. You not only would be helping our great club but also the community of St Germain. Both of these events are on the same weekend August 27th and 28th our community, our groomer drivers and the Board of Directors of the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club are anxious to see you all on these important weekends. Thank You Radar Run Food Tent Volunteers The 2016 Radar Run Food Tent was another successful fundraiser for the Bo-Boen Club. St. Germain Community Park. 2016/2017 Wisconsin Snowmobile Trail Pass The trail pass system implemented last season will remain in place for the 2016/2017 season. There are possible changes in the works for how you pay for your pass, which will hopefully make it easier to obtain your pass. One thing, however, will not change: it is best to get your trail passes as early as possible to make sure you have them by the time you are ready to ride next season. In previous years, you could join a club and your AWSC membership was processed almost immediately. However, the AWSC did not anticipate the hundreds of new and renewal memberships that would still be coming through, once the 2015/2016 season started. For that reason, and from some unexpected shortages in staff at the AWSC, it took up to 5 business days to process most memberships. The costs/fees will remain the same. Here is a reminder of the costs: $50 – if your snowmobile(s) is not registered in Wisconsin. If your snowmobile(s) is not registered in Wisconsin – it does not make any difference if you are a Wisconsin club member or not. The cost is still $50. $30 – if your snowmobile is registered in Wisconsin but you are not a Wisconsin Snowmobile Club Member. Remember—you do not need to be a Wisconsin resident to register your snowmobile(s) in Wisconsin. If your snowmobile is already registered in another state and you wish to keep that registration—you can dual register it. $10 – If your snowmobile(s) is registered in Wisconsin and you are a member of a Wisconsin Snowmobile Club/AWSC. Remember: The $50 & $30 passes are ordered and paid for with the Wisconsin DNR. The discounted $10 pass is ordered and paid for through the AWSC. Links are available on our website, www.boboen.com. If you are already a member of the St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club, please try to keep track of when you joined. Your Bo-Boen membership and your AWSC membership are good for one year from your date of application. If you are not yet a Bo-Boen member; please join now. This will ensure you will have your AWSC membership number in place, if you wish to take advantage of the $10 discounted trail pass. If you only own one snowmobile, we will admit that it is cheaper for you to just buy the $30 pass (providing your sled is registered in WI). However, if you own multiple snowmobiles, you can save money by 1—registering your sleds in Wisconsin, 2—joining an AWSC club such as the St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club and 3—buy the discounted $10 trail pass. The 2016/2017 Wisconsin Snowmobile Trail Passes will be available beginning July 1st 2016. Order them as early as possible. Do not wait until the last minute. Please Note: Anyone purchasing a 2016-2017 WI Snowmobile Trail Pass in the summer months will not receive the passes from the State of WI until early fall. Thank you for your patience. Wisconsin Snowmobile Trail Passes will continue to NOT BE AVAILABLE over the counter. We ask that when re-newing your Bo-Boen membership you wait until you receive the membership form which will be mailed in August/September. New members may join anytime online at www.boboen.com. If you have sledding friends, please share this information with them. Being caught riding without a WI Trail Pass will set you back $250! Our thoughts and prayers were sent to Tim & Pam Gebhardt after the passing of Tim’s father this summer. Condolences were also sent to the family of Hank Kosanda who passed away this past week. Hank was a past President of the club but was probably know more as the sign guy. For years he maintained the signs on our 100+ miles of trails. Get well wishes were sent to Beth Urban and Geri Shambo following her knee surgery. Please call Arlene Rieckenberg at 715-542-3066 when you have information on births, of members who are ill or hospitalized and need a bit of cheer, sympathy or encouragement. ANNUAL CLUB RAFFLE INFORMATION Regarding our annual club raffle, it has recently been brought to our attention that it is against regulations to send out raffle tickets by mail. So over the next couple months our board will discuss if we will be doing a club raffle, and if so what type. We will update via the newsletter. Ed Siergiej, Treasurer The Classic Sled Round-up held in St. Germain on Sunday, May 29, 2016 was another great success. Our club once again operated the food booth where the net proceeds totaled $3,302. Of which we were able to share just under $1000 to the Hall of Fame. Again, thanks to all the volunteers that made it a great success, they include: Al Clemmensen Ken Beno Dave Brown Gary Jacobi Don Richards Jim Warmington Dennis Dieter Barb Steinhilber Jim & Sue DuBore Geri Shambo Jim & Val Rybarczyk Steve Soltwedel Tim & Pam Gebhardt Ozzie Ausloos Nathan Gebhardt THANK YOU to the Snowmobile Hall of Fame for letting us participate in the event.
