March 2016 - Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club
St. Germain Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club
Celebrating our 46th Snowmobiling Season!
Volume 2015-16 Number 9
Presidents Message—Ozzie Ausloos
It’s hard to believe that this is the
March newsletter it seems like the season
is just beginning when in actuality the
season is winding down. The weather has
not been very cooperative this year however we’ve had enough snow to be able to
get out and ride. We’ve had several successful fundraisers with great attendance
from our membership and visitors to the
area. The annual breakfast at Knocker’s
was awesome, the omelets made by Barry
were superb. Thank you Barry, Shelley,
and your staff for your hard work and generosity. The groomer show turned out
pretty good in spite of a snowstorm the
night before. The food area was attended
to by Steve Soltwedel and his band of volunteers, thank you Steve. I even got to
drive a 1965 Tucker Groomer, which was
quite the experience.
The Radar Run was a huge success. The
weather on Saturday was perfect and all
of the volunteers showed up to help at
the food tent and parking. I really appreciate their efforts. More details to follow
in the next newsletter.
We have two fundraisers on the horizon,
The Classic Sled Roundup which will be on
Memorial Day and we will be having a food
service booth at that event. We also have
a 5k Bacon Dash, which is a fun run the
opening night of the Pig in the Pines, this
event is in August. We will be sharing the
profits from this run with the St Germain
Chamber. If any of our members would
like to volunteer at any of these events
please feel free to contact me or any of
the board members.
Keep in mind we normally have good
riding in early March, don’t miss out on
that, get those sleds out for one last ride.
See you on the trails,
Ozzie

Trail Boss—Jim Wendt
I guess we have to be happy with a bunch of mini droppings
of snow this season. I must say, though, even with the minimal snows we've had, the trails are in great shape. The compliments keep coming in from riders on our system! I can't be
more proud of my crew of drivers! They are the reason for
great trails in St. Germain. This year’s staff of drivers
are: Town run - Crew chief Tom Marks, Jay Pritzel, and Mike
McCormick; Eagle River run—Crew chief John Vojta, Sean
Savel, and Matt Verseman; Sayner run—Crew chief Mike Osborne, Steve Hausner, and Brian Tamling; Buffalo Lake run—
Crew chief Al Clemmensen, Jim Swenson, and Kelly NewtonDam Lake run—Crew chief Jim Wendt, Doug Coda, and Gary
Jacobi. My sincere thanks to these men for their dedication
and commitment to keeping our trails the best in the
state. Be sure to pass along YOUR thanks as well!
Also, a huge "thank you" to our sign master Steve Soltwedel! Steve is a trusted friend as well as being the most dependable and trustworthy partner in providing safe travels for
all those folks visiting our area.
Just a few notes from inside the Tucker…
1. Sleds always go around parked groomers
2. Please DIM your headlights when approaching a groomer
3. When you see the lights of an approaching groomer, STOP
to give the driver more time and space to find a safe
place to pass
4. Remember to ride right
5. Take it easy when you go around a groomer and ride on
the freshly groomed trail surface, let the trail set up
6. Always wave to the driver, he is working for YOU!!!!
I hope we are in for some great late season riding. After
losing December and half of January, we really deserve it!
HAPPY TRAILS
JIM
Secretary’s Report—Kay Schultz
Snowmobiling season is finally in full swing. No major snow
storm yet this year but enough here and there to keep the
trails in decent condition and with the cold temperatures the
snow is not melting. I guess it’s true – good things come to
those who wait. Still enough of the season left for everyone to
get in some great rides.
A big thank you to Barry & Shelley of Knocker’s for hosting
our February membership dinner. With 80 members in attendance, they were treated to a great dinner. Another thank
you to Jeff Calhoun of Tomahawk Sport Center, who regaled
us with beautiful dinner music. All in all it was a great evening.
Don’t forget that next month is the club election. This can
be done by absentee ballot or at the next dinner meeting at
Golden Pines on March 8th.

Membership News—Margie Klingsporn
Last spring I was considering resigning as Membership Chair for the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club. However, when it was apparent that the discounted trail passes would be increasing the volume of memberships significantly, I decided to stay on for one
more year. So here we are, one year later, with a membership count approaching 1000 members. I have covered this crazy
transitional year and next year should be more normal. But after four years, it is time to let someone else process our memberships. Beth and Jeff Urbans will be processing them next year. Yea, Beth and Jeff!!! They will have the fun of just clicking the box for a renewal, instead of registering 437 new members. We appreciate their stepping up to volunteer to do this
task.
Here are some interesting notes about our memberships:
16 states (see the chart) are represented in our memberships.
We have one Canadian membership.
Last year we had 122 new memberships. This year we have had 437, or 315 more than last year. That is an increase of
258%. (In other words, for every new member registered last year we have had 3½ new members this year.)
Often, when registering, new members comment, “The Bo-Boen trails are the best we have ever ridden. Thanks!”

Candidate Statements
President—Bob “Ozzie” Ausloos
I have really enjoyed being the president this past season. Our
club has seen tremendous growth in our membership numbers. We
have installed a new bridge and did a couple of trail reroutes. I
have learned several things while being in office and one of the
primary things that I have learned is that there is a lot of activity
that happens behind the scenes that makes this club the great club
that it is. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the board members,
the committee chair people, the Park and Recreation directors
from both Oneida and Vilas County, as well as the numerous volunteers that have helped out at our fundraising events. I would appreciate your vote so I can put this knowledge to work in the upcoming year as your president for one more term.
President—Elect—Tom Nampel
I have enjoyed serving as President - Elect over the past year. I
have learned a lot about what it takes to run the biggest snowmobile club in Wisconsin. I am looking forward working with the other
board members to keep this club working successfully. Thank you
for your support, Tom
Treasurer—Ed Siergiej
I have accepted the nomination of the election committee to run
for one more year as your treasurer. I am looking forward in working with the other elected officers and directors as our club remains the largest in the state of Wisconsin. Snowmobiling is an
important part of the success of our community. Once again I ask
for your support.
Secretary—Kay Schultz
Once again I am running for the position of secretary. Everybody
who knows me, knows that I still don’t snowmobile but I still do
have strong feelings about how much the club has done to make
St. Germain the community that it is today. In addition to being
secretary for the last 3 years, I have organized our 7 membership
dinners for the past 6 years, acquired 4 new map advertisers and
help out at the annual pig roast. Thank you so much for your support in the upcoming election.
Director—Paul Bohnen
My name is Paul Bohnen and I am running for a director’s position. I have lived in Saint Germain since 1976 and have had family
here since 1948. My wife Julie and I own Paul’s Rent All and have
been in business for 20 years. We have three kids. All who love to
snowmobile. I started brushing trails and riding with my uncle on
the groomers when I was 13 years old. I’ve been on the board of
directors in the past helping work through some challenging situations. I am asking for your support by considering me for a three
year term.
Director—John “Jack” Bourgeois
Hello Everyone! My name is John (Jack) Bourgeois and I am running for a position on the board of directors. I have been a member of the board for the past two years filling out the remainder of
another person’s term, after being unanimously voted in by your
current board. My background is in technology and engineering. I
am the author of the book titled “The Sledders Bible”, among others, and have been involved in the sport of snowmobiling since
1968. I hold a Masters Degree in Management, and currently teach
in the IT department at Nicolet Technical College. I also have degrees in Behavioral Science, Labor Law, and Computer Science, and
have been instrumental in bringing new technological advances to
the club in the area of computers, with the Rider-X program, and
providing guidance to the club on new computer purchases. I also
founded and run a non-profit organization called “Soldiers on Sleds”
where we take out combat veterans snowmobiling and I also volunteer at Camp American Legion as a fishing guide to disabled veterans. I really would like to count on you for voting for me in this BOD
election. Thank You, Jack.
Director—Al Clemmensen
Since I have previously held the positions as President—Elect, President and Past President for the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club I feel I
would be an asset to the Board of Directors for this club. I spent 30
years as a policeman ending my last 17 years as a Lieutenant/Watch
Commander. In that position I attended meetings regarding budgets,
manpower usage, and various dealings with the public. Presently I
am a Groomer Driver for the club and have been for the past 5 years
ensuring our trails are the best groomed in the state. I have also
been an avid snowmobiler since the late 1970’s. Being a long time
member of this club who volunteers for any and all events I will continue to help our club prosper. Thank you! Al
Director—Pam Gebhardt
I am asking for your vote to become one of your board members in
this years election. My family and I have lived in St. Germain for almost 25 years and are snowmobile fanatics! I also know how snowmobiling impacts our communities winter economy. I have served on the
Board in the past as Secretary under Presidents Rich Polaski and Al
Clemmensen. While serving as secretary I also took over as Newsletter Editor which I have been doing now for 8 years. I continue to attend monthly board meetings to keep you, our members, the most
informed regarding issues in our club. Thank you for your support.
Director—Gary Groff
I am relatively new to snowmobiling, as I only bought my first sled
when my wife, Kathy, and I retired Up North seven years ago. Being
an Apple Dumpling and member of the Bo-Boen’s has made me aware
of the tremendous impact snowmobiling has on the local economy.
The Bo-Boen’s mission to protect the future of snowmobiling and
encourage safe and responsible trail riding is very important to me
also.
I was born and raised in NE lower MI. in the Tawas Area on Lake
Huron. Graduated high school there and then attended and graduated from Alpena Community College with a degree in electronics.
Then it was on to the US Navy’s 6 year nuclear power program and
its tough school and nuclear power training unit in upstate NY, which
took 2 years. After that, I was assigned to the propulsion plants of
the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise and sailed the Pacific for 4 years. I
met my wife, Kathy, on the Apache Indian Reservation in Arizona
where she was a teacher on my travels back to MI after my Navy discharge. We have been happily married for 38 years. We have two
grown children who live in the Chicago area, and they have blessed
us with 4 grandchildren.
I worked for 34 years as a licensed control room operator in a nuclear power plant, and would bring that same energy and determination to the board of this fine club. I would very much appreciate your
vote.
Additional Statement
Candidate Statements continued...
Director—Jim Swenson
My wife, Stacy, and I have called St. Germain our home for the
past 18 years. I’m co-owner of Crystal Clear Windows, Inc here in
town. I have been around snowmobiling my whole life and we
have enjoyed riding the trails with our family and friends. I
started grooming trails in the 2015 season and appreciate the
quality equipment the club has. It is great to see the waves and
thumbs up from the users as they are enjoying the trails. I would
like to continue the direction of the club in offering tremendous
trails to the residents and visitors of St. Germain. In my spare
time I enjoy playing basketball and enjoying the outdoors. Our 7
month old Chocolate Lab, Tucker, is enjoying the North woods
with us.
