18% tungsten steel inlay. This knife will substantially reduce downtime

The microcut system memorizes cutting
sequences instantly, stores them indefinitely
and recalls them at the touch of a button.
The system frees the operator from the

repetitive data entry. Its ability to automatically
program a job while cutting the first lift turns

DRILLING TIPS
1) Most drill breakage is caused by operating dull and/or unseated drills. To prevent the drill from ramming into the
drill stick, make sure that the drill bit is engaged on the drive pin inside the spindle. Also be sure to remove slugs
and sharpen drills after every shift change.
2) Be careful not to use excessive pressure when sharpening drill bits. Even a slight expansion at the cutting edge will
cause the drill to cut a larger diameter chip than it was designed for. This will lead to excess friction or clogging,
resulting in reduced life, or could even cause the drill bit to split.

3) Check the belts on the drilling machine. They should be reasonably tight. Loose belts slip and cause overheating

and/or excess pressure on hollow drills.
4) Heat is the biggest cause of drill bit failure. When a bit gets too hot it loses its temper, causing the cutting edge to become dull. The drill
should never turn color from overheating. Remember that a paper drill must be sharp enough to cut through the paper, not punch it.
5) Important! To prevent the drill from overheating, the speed and feed should be adjusted for the stock being drilled.
Generally, the softer the stock, the slower the feed. Increase the RPM of the drill bit when drilling smaller diameters
such as 1/8˝ or 3/16˝. When drilling larger diameters, the RPM should be decreased. Set the machine to exit the
stock as rapidly as possible once the hole is drilled to avoid excessive heat from spinning the drill in the stock.
6) Set the drilling depth correctly. Do not cut too deeply into the cutting block. The drill should just touch the block and
cleanly cut through the bottom sheet. During drilling, do not set the drill deeper into the block, but change the position
of the block frequently. Drilling deeper into the block dulls the drills more quickly.
7) Lubricate drills to assist the passage of the chips and help avoid overheating. (See our Drilling Lubricants on Page 10)

SHARPENING TIPS
The primary cause for drill breakage is a dull bit. For best results, drill bits should be sharpened after every 4 to 8 hours of use. They should be sharpened even
more often when drilling through hard stocks, fiberboard, or abrasive stocks. Always be sure to clear the bits before taking a break, going to lunch, or finishing
the day. Once a drill bit cools down and shrinks on the chips, your chance of breakage at start-up triples.
Check your drill sharpener - the cutting edge of the sharpening bit should be inspected frequently to make certain that it is sharp and free of nicks.
Never let a drill drop onto the sharpening reamer or it will chip the sharpening edge. Use gentle pressure when sharpening - let the reamer do the work.
Check the sharpness of the drill after sharpening - the cutting edge should be razor sharp.

Specifications for Hole Spacing
By utilizing these specifications you can determine
the minimum possible distance between outside
holes when various housings are placed directly
against each other.
Minimum center to center distance using a right
and left hand drill is 1-1/4˝. Multiple spindle
heads will drill 3/4˝center to center. Indexing is
necessary for closer holes.
Use these guidelines to determine the combination
of heads that best suits your application.

Simplicity with Precision
A long standing tradition with Baum floor model drills is how easily
the adjustments can be made. No tools are needed for positioning
the heads. Set-up time is greatly reduced since the heads can be
moved into position simply by loosening a locking knob by hand,
placing the head where needed, and retightening. Drill bits can also
be inserted and removed without tools.
The drill bits are forced into the paper using hydraulic, rather than
muscle power, so drilling is nearly effortless. The hydraulically
powered head assembly is spring loaded so that if the operator
removes his foot from the pedal, or in the event of a power outage,
the head assembly will return safely to its starting position.
Built for Safety
The safety interlock feature protects the operator by disabling all
motors when the guard is lifted. The spindle motor remains
inoperative until the guard is lowered.
If the safety motor overload breakers interrupt the operation of
either the spindle or the hydraulic motors, there is no need to open
the electrical box to push or reset switches. They will automatically
reset themselves. An overload indicator light is provided on the
control panel.

Movable Table Available
By drilling in multiple steps, the movable table option allows
you to efficiently increase the number of holes drilled. It also
increases the maximum center to center distance of the
heads to 23.13 inches, and reduces the minimum distance to
.38˝ using adjustable stops. The table easily moves from left
to right and back again with no paper shifting. Spring tension
maintains the position for drilling.
