From the Principal’s Desk
Greetings Parents,
Sometimes as parents we need to swim against the tide of
popular opinion, particularly when that opinion belongs to
your child, and that takes parenting steel. It helps if we are less intent on being
popular with our children and intent on being respected.
Here are 4 ideas from Michael Grose “Parenting Ideas”, to help you swim against the
tide and maintain the respect you need to influence young people:
Double up: If your partner is available, then you need to present a united front on
many issues with young people, particularly around risk-taking activities and
relationships. Single parents can draw strength from friends, relatives and other
colleagues.
Call in the troops: If in doubt, speak to other parents and find out what they think
and what they are doing with their young people.
Refer to a respected adult: Sometimes it’s useful to call on a respected ally in your
child’s life. Often they’ll listen to others but not you, even though the message is the
same. Even if you can’t call on a respected adult in person, you can bring them into
the picture saying, “What do you think your uncle would say?” Most of the time
they’ll know!
Use one point of communication: When children want to argue, rather than have a
conversation, or they want to continue arguing way after negotiation has finished,
use one point of communication to get your message across. Do not engage in
further negotiation or arguments.
As parents, our intent is not just to be liked, but to be respected, as we ultimately
have our children’s long-term interests at heart.
Yours in Christ

HEAD LICE ALERT!
We are asking all parents to examine their child’s hair and head for signs of lice or nits (which
are the eggs). Lice are hard to find as they move around the head. We are therefore suggesting that parents look for nits. Nits look similar to dandruff and gather as tiny silver white
eggs at the base of the hair shaft.
To assist with the examining of the child’s hair we recommend that the following steps be taken:
1.
To stun the lice and make it difficult for them to grip the hair, comb the child’s hair with
a detection/removal product.
2.
Using a fine tooth metal comb, comb sections of the hair with the product.
3.
Wipe the conditioner from the comb onto a paper towel or tissue.
4.
Look on the tissue and the comb for lice and eggs.
5.
Comb through every part of the head at least 6 times.
6.
If any lice or nits are found, the child’s hair should be treated.
Please do not be alarmed if your child has contracted head lice. Although the condition is
frustrating, it is easily treated with a specialised product like MOOV Head Lice Solution, KP 24
Medicated Lotion & Foam or KP Natural Mousse, Natural Lotion or Natural Cream. As mentioned in previous Newsletters, tree tea oil has been found to be the most effective. Please
see your chemist.
As with all medicines it is important to follow the directions on the pack carefully for best results.
If you find your child has head lice they must be treated before they can be sent to school or
the Early Learning Child Care Centre.
Is your child having difficulty with:
pronunciation?
listening and attention?
reading comprehension?
telling sequenced stories?
reading or spelling?
interacting with their peers?
If so, they may need speech pathology.

Chapel
It's always fun at Chapel!!
Every second Tuesday Ps Pete, Ps Marty and Adam run Chapel for the students at
BCC. It's a fun half an hour where they play some awesome games, like hanging
donuts off a string for our friend to eat or hanging clothes pegs off preppies!! We
then sing a few songs with Adam or Cherith and then listen as Ps Marty or Ps Pete
tell us a story. Last week we
heard about Queen Esther in
the Bible and the difficult decision she had to make and
how we have to make difficult
decisions sometimes too. It's
good to know that God is al-
ways there to help us make
some tough decisions.
If you're ever around the school
on a Tuesday at 2:20pm pop in
for some fun!!
Family Fair
Our 5th annual Family Fair is done and dusted for another year and what a successful day it was. Unfortunately we are still waiting on invoicing to come through
before we can confirm our final figures. The profits from this year’s Family Fair is
going towards the purchase of new appliances in our tuck-shop.
With new rides this time round, we presold more day passes than ever before……
with the bungee run and the velcro wall proving to be the most popular. Again,
Laser Skirmish was a hit with the youngsters. Many of our supporters enjoyed the
coffee and cheesecake supplied by Cherish in the air-conditioned comfort of the
hall while waiting for the cent sale to be drawn. This year’s cent sale was by far
the best we have ever had, with over 130 prizes up for grabs. All these prizes were
donated by many of the small business throughout the Burdekin, so with that A
BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED OUR CENT SALE.
I would also like to take this opportunity to send out some thank you messages.
Firstly, to Wendy Bonanno and Stella Pengelly, for your continued help, support
and encouragement throughout the entire process of organizing the Fair. Also, to
Mr Evetts and all the teachers and staff at the school for their support for this
event and their help on the day. Then there is everyone else (you all know who
you are) who volunteered in anyway shape or form, I THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH.
Last but not least, Pastor Peter and Pastor Marty, your help every year is very
much appreciated.
Thanking You
Kim Smith

The Evetts family are going to South Africa for the December Holidays. We
are looking for a responsible person to look after our house and very
friendly Foxy/Jack Russell called Moco.

We can arrange for Moco to go to a kennel if the interested person has to
meet up with family over Christmas time.

Year 6 Excursion to Museum
On Monday the year 6 class visited the Museum of Tropical Queensland as part of
their Science program. They participated in a ‘hands on’ workshop presented by
CSIRO Education. They topic was Natural Disasters. The students then looked at the
museum’s exhibitor relating to Cyclones in North Queensland.
Stickybeaks Reusable Lunch Order Tuckshop Bags
Stickybeaks Reusable lunch wallet are easy to use and easy to
clean. The bags are compact, funky, fit easily within school bags and

ELC
Kindy/Pre Prep
Hi we are very excited about our new renovations. This Friday the 2nd of November our
new sandpit is getting built. The children are missing sandpit play.
Next Tuesday we are looking forward to going to the PCYC for Kinder gym. Also don’t
forget our end of year Presentation day. We are having it on Saturday 7h of December.
With a jumping castle. Yay that should be a lot of fun!
Head lice
Please remember to check your child’s hair each week for headlice. With everybody’s
vigilance we can reduce this problem.
Parent Input
If you have any skills or cultural activities you would like to share with the children we
would love it if you could come and share it with the group. The children love different
experiences and activities.
A big thank you to Andrew’s mum, Christiana for coming and sharing her culture and
your unusual skill of flying a Glider. It was amazing!!!!
Here are a few snapshots of some of the fun we have at Kindy.

ELC
We have had lots happening in the last few weeks at the Centre. The cement in the
under cover area has been extended and the sandpit has been covered.
The
children enjoyed watching this happen and asked lots of questions. The mango
trees have also been removed to make way for the new sandpit which is going to be
put in soon. So there are exciting things happening at our ELC.
The children have had lots of fun playing outside even
though it is getting hotter. The children have enjoyed
water play outside. Even though the children wore
aprons they still manage to get wet, with some
children pouring water all over themselves. Definitely
a great way to keep cool while having fun.
We have started to get ready for Christmas by making
Christmas cards and presents for our parents.
We have been playing with the parachute outside which was lots of fun. Mrs Wilson
had the electric piano on the table and the children played
that making lots of loud music.
We have lots of fun throughout the day.
