Railroad track Câmpina - Predeal (RO)
Railroad track Câmpina - Predeal (RO) Railway- / track construction, Câmpina Modern rail link (Câmpina - Predeal) Section Comarnic - Valea Larga Footbridge - Station Busteni Facts & Figures Company: Porr Bau GmbH Customer: National Railway Company „CFR“ SA Project type: Railway- / track construction Land / city: Romania, Câmpina Commencement: 07.2007 Project status: Completed Completion: 11.2011 Contact: Harald Metzinger Project description The railway line Bucharest – Braşov is part of the pan-European railway corridor IV, which runs through Berlin – Prague – Vienna – Budapest – Bucharest, all the way to Constanta on the Black See coast and to Istanbul. The Câmpina - Predeal section stretches over a length of 48 km along the river Prahova in the southern Carpathians; between the Town of Campina (426 m) and the Town of Predeal (1093 m) there is a height difference of more than 600 meters, which had to be overcome. In the spring of 2007, the Romanian Railway Company CN CFR SA (Compania Naţională de Căi Ferate Romania) mandated PORR Technobau und Umwelt AG (now Porr Bau GmbH) with the execution of earth and track works on the described section, including the renovation and new construction of stations and stops, the execution of slope protections and drainage structures, as well as of watercourse constructions. Extensive service range The construction of the 121 km-long track system – most of it being a 2-track section – is performed under the challenge of a partial track closure, so as to maintain the public railway and freight transport along the pan-European corridor. After disassembling the old track system, removing and excavating the superstructure and the infrastructure, the soil is partially replaced, the drainage system is implemented along the railway embankment and drainage structures are erected. The reconstruction of the embankment structure by using a frost blanket, geotextiles and geo-synthetics necessary in places is finalized by incorporating the track ballast layer (ballasting, crushed stone). After installing the sleeper-rail system, after the welding works for connecting the rails and various rail joints, several tamping and stabilization processes are performed in order to fix the definitive track position. For 6 stations (Campina, Comarnic, Valea Larga, Sinaia, Busteni and Azuga) and 6 stops (Breaza, Breaza North, Nistoresti, Posada, Poiana Tapului and Sinaia South), apart from earth and track works, the infrastructure was reconstructed including the drainage system, construction of platforms, pedestrian bridges and tunnels, as well as the rehabilitation of buildings. The total construction output of the project is completed by the accompanying slope stabilization using anchored retaining walls and deformation-absorbing geo-nets for 39 construction objects and by erecting 13 river-control structures within the reach of the railway tracks to ensure scour and erosion protection of the river Prahova through solid concrete weirs and gabion walls. Challenging environment Apart from the culture- and country-specific challenges of developing the project in Romania, the multicultural PORR project team is also confronted with numerous construction-specific challenges. The "Câmpina - Predeal" project is the first railway project of PORR in Romania and is therefore the basis for building other sections of the Romanian infrastructure network within the framework of complex projects.
