International Baccalaureate Diploma: SJK is a proud IB World School member. Recognized
internationally, the IB programme is offered as both the Middle Years programme (MYP) in grades 7-10
as well as the Diploma Programme (grades 11-12). In grades 7-10, the IB philosophy is incorporated
into the school curriculum rather than in individual subjects. In the IB Diploma programme (senior
grades 11-12), subjects are offered at two levels: Higher and Standard. Candidates who opt to take
IB are expected to take 3 subjects at each level. Students who elect not to enter the full IB Diploma
programme may be eligible for IB Certificates in individual subjects. The Diploma Programme is a twoyear programme, requiring students to attend SJK for both years of their IB study.
Computers / laptops
laptop:  not required
At present, students at SJK are not required to purchase or use a computer on a daily basis. The
school does, however, believe that computers are essential tools for academic learning. Information
technology and a wifi environment permeates full school life with all teachers using MAC tools in
their teaching and smartboards in every classroom. Mobile computer carts support students in
classrooms, as well as a full computer lab. Many of our students also bring in their own personal
computers or tablets.
ESL
As part of the school’s International Student Success Program, students are provided with
individualized ESL support. This support is offered outside of regular class time, allowing students to
maintain their studies. This aspect of the program is designed to prepare students for TOEFL testing.
An Advanced Learning Strategies English Support Program is offered to those students who may
require some additional assistance in improving their English language skills.
