28-41 Resort Profiles RESORT 12/7/06 6:57 PM Page 40 PROFILES Woodsmoke Ranch T SENECA, ILLINOIS Located on the Illinois River Valley, Woodsmoke Ranch is easy enough to reach and far enough to melt everyday stress. This is the real deal, a taste of the Old West rolled into a country retreat that’s part of unspoiled America. 40 C O A S T T O C O A S T DIRECTORY 2007 he Old Town storefronts leading to a dance hall and game room make perfect sense in this setting. You can just feel your blood pressure lower as you take on the slower pace of bygone days. Acres and acres of rolling wooded hills provide enough room to roam, perhaps on a horse. Stables and a tack room are right here at Woodsmoke Ranch. For a day trip, head toward Seneca and the I&M Canal. You’ll witness firsthand the importance the canals had in the 1800s. Sandstone bluffs define the northern edge of the Illinois River valley and overlook Seneca for great photo opportunities. For serious water sports, head to LaSalle Lake, 7 miles away, and Heidicke Lake, a 30-minute drive. Hikers, bikers and sightseers should visit Starved Rock and Buffalo Rock state parks, both a short distance from the resort. For the golfer, many challenging courses are within a few minutes’ drive. On-site amenities provide enough choices to keep everyone happy. There are two outdoor swimming pools, two lakes, fishing, a recreation clubhouse, tennis courts, a café, a laundry, basketball courts, baseball and softball fields, a playground and two pavilions. And, of course, there are the stables. Open from May through September, Woodsmoke Ranch has 18 full-hookup sites and a maximum RV length of 32 feet.
