Gypsies make the rounds of the churches in our
diocese, begging for money in our plazas and in front of our
church doors. We always tell them to contact our
St. Vincent de Paul Society who administers our generous
donations for those who are in need. But the gypsies don’t
want to go to St. Vincent because they just want quick
cash—and that is their business model. They often beg with
babies in their arms, either their own babies or babies they
rent from their clan in order to attract your sympathy. If
you give them money, then either they or others know this
is a good parish to hit. And you have wasted your money on
their business.
Los gitanos hacen rondas en las Iglesias en nuestra
Diócesis pidiendo dinero en nuestras plazas y frente a las
puertas de la iglesia, siempre les pedimos que se pongan en
contacto con nuestro ministerio de San Vicente de Paúl ya
que ellos administran nuestras generosas donaciones para
aquellos que están en necesidad. Pero los gitanos no quieren acudir a San Vicente ya que, según su modelo de negocio, lo que ellos quieren es dinero rápido en efectivo. A menudo, ellos traen bebés en sus brazos, ya sea sus propios o
alquilados del mismo clan, cuando piden dinero con el fin
de provocar su lástima. Si ustedes les dan dinero entonces
ellos u otros que se enteren dirán que es una buena parroquia para pedir dinero y ustedes perderán su dinero en el
negocio de ellos.
They have been very active in the past weeks hitting
people up from money here in the parish. We recommend
that you refrain from giving them money. The best way for
you to express your generosity is to donate to St. Vincent de
Paul. They have the means to compassionately investigate
each request and to provide people with the assistance they
need. Because of your generosity, we are able to disperse
over $150,000 each year to people who really need it.
On another note, if you are sick, please don’t come
to Mass. You need to stay at home and recuperate and
make sure your weakened immune system doesn’t get
more infected from other people here at church. The Lord
understands your sickness and you don’t have to attend
Mass -- no sin involved. If you do come when you are sick,
you are just going to infect other people. I was sick last
weekend, and I stayed home because I didn’t want to
cough or sneeze on other people in the narthex or in the
Communion line. Several years ago I asked my doctor,
“How can I avoid all these upper respiratory infections?” He
responded, “Stay away from people.” I responded, “Yah,
right, Doc.” Every weekend I am around 7,000 people. So,
the best way for all of us to be healthy is to refrain from
Church when we are sick. We will pray for you!

aquí en la parroquia en las últimas semanas. Se recomienda
que se abstengan de darles dinero. La mejor manera para

respondí, "si, ¡claro!, esto es imposible para mí." Cada fin de
semana estoy en contacto con 7,000 personas aproximadamente. Por lo tanto la mejor manera para todos nosotros
de estar sanos es que nos abstengamos de ir a la iglesia
