What comes from within you? Does the list of defilements from today’s Gospel give you pause? Evil thoughts—do these ever come
out of you? What about greed? Arrogance? - surely you must be guilty of boasting about yourself from time to time. You do not need
to be a hypocrite like the Pharisee to take a long and serious look at the condition and quantity of the output of your life. Jesus says:
“Nothing that enters one from the outside can defile a person; but the things that come out from within are what defile.” Honor God
with a heart that generates not defilement but love.
Pastoral Council Meeting ~ The Pastoral Council will meet
on Tuesday, September 1 @ 6:30 PM in the Parish Office
Conference Room.
RED Mass Welcome ~ Saint Boniface Parish is happy to
welcome Bishop Paprocki and men and women in the legal
profession to the 10:15 AM Parish Mass celebrating the
inaugural Red Mass. Following the Mass, a luncheon for our
guests will be held in the Oak Room of the Lower Level.
Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lloyd Karmeier will serve as the
guest speaker. So what is a Red Mass? A Red Mass is a Mass
celebrated annually in the Catholic Church for judges, attorneys,
law school and government officials. The Mass requests
guidance from the Holy Spirit for all who seek justice, and
offers the opportunity to reflect on what Catholics believe is the
God-given power and responsibility of all in the legal
profession. Originating in Europe during the high middle ages,
the Red Mass is so called from the red vestments traditionally
worn in symbolism of the tongues of fire that descended on the
Apostles. Its name also exemplifies the scarlet robes worn by
royal judges that attended the Mass centuries ago.
RCIA/RCIC ~ The Inquiry Sessions for those interested in
learning more about the Catholic faith begin on Monday,
August 31 @ 6:30 PM in the Acorn Room of the Lower Level.
Thanks to Natalie and Chris Hawkins (4:15 PM), Jessica
Grieshaber (8:15 AM), Brady, Nicole, Braden, Bristol and
Bryer Arview (10:15 AM) and Michael Ezell (5:15 PM ) for
their RCIA witness testimonies at all the Masses last
weekend.
STBK2 Coming Soon - The second STBK (Koinonia) will be

to present an inspirational and spiritually memorable weekend.

MINISTRY MINUTES
Clyde Nosser
Deacon Candidate Class of 2020
My family and I have been full time
members of St. Boniface for just over a
year and part time members for the past
14 years. I am married to my lovely wife
Melinda, a Medical Records Coordinator
during the day and a typical busy mom
otherwise. She also volunteers with the
Visitation Ministry to Anderson Hospital. I have two sons,
Justin and Jared. Justin is a violin and hockey player and is
going to be a freshman at SLU. Jared also plays hockey and
is a car enthusiast. He is currently a junior at EHS. Justin and
I have been in the choir for the last year. I’m the guitar guy.
During the week, I am a Pharmaceutical Chemist. I enjoy
playing golf, reading and am a huge Blues and Cardinals fan,
sorry Fr. Jeff.
From the time we have become members of St. Boniface, I
have been highly impressed with the sincere warmth my
family has felt from the parishioners of this church. I know
these are words, but they are truly heartfelt, from the way that
everyone has spoken to me before and after Mass and around
town. You should truly boast in Christ about the way our
parish loves.
I am asking now for all of your prayers as I start on my
journey to become a Deacon. Classes begin this fall and the
whole process will take five years. I truly can do this with the
love and support of God, my family and this great Parish!
Yours in Christ,
Clyde Nosser
St. Boniface RCIA-RCIC
If you or someone you know is interested
in knowing more about the Catholic faith or becoming a
member of the Catholic faith, we invite you to RCIA (the
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). RCIA is a 7-month
process of getting to know about/becoming a member of the
Catholic faith. We meet most Monday evenings 6:30-8:00
p.m. from September until the Easter Vigil. Older children,
ages 6-13, who wish to be baptized into the Catholic faith,
have their own sessions on Monday evenings at the same
time as RCIA. This is called RCIC (the Rite of Christian
Initiation for Children). For more information, contact the
Parish Office at 656-6450 or Sister Kathleen Ann at
[email protected].
Class begins Monday, August 31 in the Acorn Room
!
Reflection ~ Robin Black-Rubenstein
The readings from this weekend remind us
following the letter of the law is not valid if
we are not following the spirit of the law as
well. Before the Israelites were given the
commandments, they were slaves to the
Egyptians. In order to survive, they only did what they were
told. Once freed, they needed the commandments in order to
live in relationship with God and each other. We know that
we learn best by being able to practice what we are learning.
If somehow we can engage in hands-on experience, emotional
risk-taking, and expand our experiences with different people,
not just those who we are comfortable with, we are then able
to deepen our knowledge of others and self. In order to
stretch our relationship with God we need to experience
living out God’s law of love in relationship with others. We
gather each Sunday in community with others to receive
Jesus. As we seek to live out the love that we have received,
we should also seek out ways to experience, expand and
deepen our relationship to God and each other.

St. Boniface appreciates your gifts to the church. We would like to suggest some
ways to make your gift giving easier:
•
Easy and convenient! EFT is an automatic withdrawal from your checking
account on a monthly basis. There are no service fee charges! All we need
is a copy of your cancelled check and your authorization form for an
amount to be given automatically. Once a month giving is as easy as paying
your light bill!
•
Traditional weekly contribution envelopes provided by the church. This
allows us to give you credit for the gifts you give to the church. We have no
way to credit anonymous gifts of cash.
•
Are you visiting? We will send you a thank you letter for your contribution
(if you give by check) that can be used for tax purposes. Cash donations are
more difficult unless a name and address are included with the gift.
