Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s second reading from
Corinthians reminds us that God
has given each of us unique gifts
which we are to use to help build
upon the kingdom of God on
earth. Living this out requires
ongoing prayer and discernment
to identify our gifts and talents, and the resolve and
determination to live in service to God and our neighbor.
Annual Pre-Cana Seminar ~ Saint Boniface will host a PreCana Seminar for couples who are planning marriage in the
Catholic Church. The event will take place on Saturday,
February 6. Please note the change of date. Those
planning on attending should register with the Parish Office @
656-6450.
R & R ~ I will be on holiday this Monday (1/18) - Wednesday
(1/20). Please note there will be no weekday Masses celebrated
on those three days. Communion Services will be held in my
absence.
Trivia Night ~ The annual STB Trivia Night will be held
Saturday, January 23, in the School Gym. Doors open @ 6:30
PM. Questions begin @ 7 PM. Hurry and get your team
signed! Proceeds benefit Space Camp 2016.
Credo 101 Session ~ Per the request of several parents, I have
added another date for the Credo 101 sessions. The next
session will be held on Sunday, January 24 @ 2 PM—3:30 PM.
The final session will be held on Tuesday, February 16 @ 6:30
PM—8 PM. Parents of students who plan to receive the
Sacraments of Penance, First Eucharist and Confirmation are
required to attend one of the final sessions. If either of these
dates do not work for your schedule, please contact myself at
the Parish Office @ 656.6450 or [email protected]. Failure to
attend a session will jeopardize your students reception of the
Sacraments. In other words, parents (at least one—preferably
both) must attend.
FMCHS ~ Father McGivney Catholic High

MINISTRY MINUTES
A Celebration of Life with Wonderful Memories of
Those No Longer with Us
Last Sunday (01/10/15) our family celebrated my Aunt Rita’s
95th birthday. Her children came from both California and
Florida to be with her and so I saw cousins that I had not
seen for many years. At some point during the party we
would gather around Rita in family groupings for a picture
and as each family gathered I would be aware of who was no
longer there.
Aunt Rita is the last survivor of her brothers and sisters. My
mom, my Uncle Joe and my Aunt Ruth have all died; but they
were there in spirit and in the stories shared about them. The
same was true for Aunt Rita’s children because my cousin
Patrick, a marine, was killed early in the Vietnam War. Two
of my brothers are deceased and so our family picture was
smaller than it would have been in years past. However, there
was a joy in that party room that told me all were present with
us.
At that party I saw cousins meeting cousins for the first time
because they live on opposite coasts and I met second cousins
that I had only seen pictures of. Our family drew closer
together because of celebrating the life of my Aunt Rita.
There was another part of Rita’s family at that party. Several
of her parishioners with whom she celebrates daily Mass and
her pastor were there. We celebrated both the ones who were
present and the memory of the ones who had died. We
celebrated both Rita’s life and her faith; and our grace before
the meal was about both food and family.
We were tied together by daily Mass and Sunday Mass and
funeral Mass. We were tied together by both family and faith
– “For where two or three are gathered together in my name,
there am I in the midst of them.” ~ Deacon Dan

What is Koinonia, and why would I want to attend?
Koinonia is a Greek word meaning community. St. Boniface
Koinonia (STBK) is a community retreat experience and a
time for individuals to reflect and grow as Christians. The
purpose of Koinonia is two-fold. The first is to offer a time
and place for experiencing the reality of Christian community,
sociability, friendship and sharing. The second is to provide a
depth of faith-sharing support that allows and challenges
inner renewal for each person on the weekend. The weekend
is designed for ANYONE 18 and over who wants to deepen
their relationship with God, enhance their own spirituality,
and for anyone who would like to spend time with a group of
people interested in exploring faith. Participants come from
various walks of life, experiences, age spans and faiths. The
Koinonia weekends usually have 30-35 participants. During
the weekend people are grouped for small group discussion.
However, simply listening is ok too; sharing out loud is not a
requirement. The weekend is under the direction of a
qualified layperson assisted by a team and a Roman Catholic
priest who officiates over the sacraments. The program
begins on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. and concludes at
3:30 on Sunday. Participants return home at the end of
each day and return the following morning. Great food
and drink is provided for you the entire weekend. Participants
need to commit to the entire weekend community unless
there is an emergency. The theme of the Koinonia weekend
is the Paschal Mystery; the life, death and resurrection of
Jesus. This central teaching of our faith is discussed and
shown how it can be applied to our daily lives. During the
weekend, the foundation of the church year and the Christian
life- Lent, Easter and Pentecost – is expressed in three days.
Why would I want to attend? (Top Ten)
1. Our weekend is March 4, 5 and 6, about half-way through
Lent. What a great addition to your Lenten practice this year!
2. It is a place where new friends and new insights to our faith
community are found.
3. It is right here in town and I get to go home to sleep.
4. Having one-on-one time with a small group gives you a
chance to hear of God’s Mercy at work in people’s lives.
5. Confirm, affirm and reaffirm your relationship with the
divine.
6. Experience a boost in your spiritual life.

more patient, accepting and forgiving. A whole new outlookone of looking at all that is around me with greater faith, hope

Stewardship
Thank you for your support!
We have often maintained that there is a stewardship message
in every reading from Holy Scripture. Today’s readings are no
exception, from the reminder that “God rejoices in each of
us” to “To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is
given for some benefit” from St. Paul’s first letter to the
Corinthians to the Gospel story about the miracle at the
wedding in Cana as reported in John.

Although each of those messages is worthy of our thought,
meditation, and reflection, we would like to focus on a
particular line in St. John’s Gospel, a statement which literally
says it all about stewardship as a way of life. Our Blessed
Mother Mary says quite simply, “Do whatever He tells you.”
Her message for those gathered at the wedding and her
message for us is the same.

The whole purpose of our lives is to seek and ascertain what
it is that the Lord is telling us. We all understand that is not
easy, and for many of us becomes a lifelong quest. Yet, that is

discover what the Lord is “telling” us. That requires prayer
on our part; it means we have to listen more than speak; and
it means we need to identify, recognize, and use our gifts.

Attached to the bulletin next weekend will be an envelope for
you to make a donation to aid the Church in Latin America.
In 1965, the bishops of the United States created the Latin
America Committee and an annual national collection to
support the work of the Church in Latin America. This year
marks the fiftieth anniversary of it’s creation.
The 2016 campaign highlights the faith of Latin America and
the many opportunities we have to share faith with them. We
also recognize the tremendous benefit of having our Latin
American brothers and sisters in the Church and the
revitalization their fervor brings to the faith. The United
States Conference of Catholic Bishops invites you to aid our

CHILI COOKOFF - Sunday, January 24 — All who enter a pot of chili get free admission. All who just want to come and help
judge, sampling all the entries, admission is $5 (which includes one free drink). We had 19 entries and roughly 100 people attending last
year, and we hope to grow that even larger this year. If you are going to enter a chili you must reserve a spot before JAN 17 by

PATSY CLINE NIGHT - Friday, January 29 — Come see a Patsy Cline cover band at the KofC Hall. Two 45 minute sets, with
costume changes. Tickets $10. Come enjoy some old time country music.
3rd ANNUAL FATHER DAUGHER DANCE - Saturday, February 20, 6:00—9:30 p.m. Because this event sold out last year,
you must reserve tickets AND pay in advance. Tickets are $20 per couple, $25 if more than one child. Ticket prices increase $5 after Jan 31,
and $20 after Feb 14. Pasta dinner, bread and salad are included. There will be a DJ and sound system for dancing. A professional fun photo
booth will be there for a nominal fee. This is a dress up event. Dads are shirt/tie with jacket optional; ladies in dresses. All ages are welcome.
Dad's of all ages, don't miss this opportunity to dance once again with your daughter. Last year our daughters ranged from infant to 64 years

Marriage ~ If you are considering marriage, a minimum of six months is
required for preparation. A wedding date cannot be set until after the first
meeting with the pastor. At that time, the diocesan and parish guidelines
will be explained.
Anointing of the Sick ~ Parishioners who are seriously or critically ill, or
having surgery, should contact the pastor for the celebration of the
sacrament.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults ~ The R.C.I.A. is an ongoing
formation process for adults who are interested in becoming a Catholic and
would like to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and First
Eucharist. Call the Parish Office for additional information.
