The copperplated, hand-blown glass vessel is part of a barware collection that includes a cocktail shaker, tongs, and swizzle sticks. 01 SURFACE 60 61 02 Designed for Alessi, Luca Galbusera’s La Trama e l’Ordito bowl—Italian for “warp and weft”—has the texture and intricacy of a woven basket, but is molded entirely of a high-performance concrete material. SURVEY SURVEY 03 04 03 04 Part of the Diamant collection of crystal stemware and tumblers, Baccarat’s stately Highball glass is crafted through a signature diamond-cutting technique that’s been used by the company since 1820. Designed by Sarah Lavoine, Bernardaud’s Aboro collection takes graphic inspiration from aboriginal paintings and celestial themes. Lobmeyr’s elegant Still water-purification system comprises handblown and engraved crystal glassware, copper utensils, and activated charcoal for natural filtration. Nachtmann’s Hikari votive was designed by Yuumi Abe, a young artist who found inspiration in the contrast between man-made architectural structures and the natural landscape of her Tokyo home. SURFACE 64 65 SURVEY SURVEY 07 09 08 07 Designed by Hallgeir Homstvedt for Muuto, the Balance set pairs a colored-porcelain vase with a powder-coated steel tray. Small magnets keep the two parts attached while flexibly allowing for varying arrangements. 08 09 Namaste is French designer Jean-Marie Massaud’s first collection for Kartell in Tavola. The melamine plates come in warm earth-tones (orange, black, gray) and three sizes of asymmetric, organic shapes. Handcrafted by master glassblowers, the long coil of Riedel’s Horn decanter allows for generous aeration. It can even produce sounds, bringing musical function to its sculptural form. SURFACE 66 67 SURVEY SURVEY 10 12 11 10 Building up on the success of its Geo Vacuum jug, Normann Copenhagen’s new Geo series‚—designed by Nicholai Wiig Hansen—includes a tray, milk jug, sugar bowl, and jars, available in a range of pastels. 11 12 Produced as part of a collaborative collection with artist Shantell Martin, Kelly Wearstler’s Super Diamond objet is made of white Calcutta marble and measures nearly a foot tall. The graphic chain motif in Richard Ginori’s Catene tableware collection was inspired by the 1926 drawings of legendary designer Giò Ponti, who worked as the brand’s creative director in the 1920s. SURFACE 68 69 SURVEY SURVEY 13 14 13 Part of the luxe Oh de Christofle eight-piece collection of cocktail barware, this sleek, geometric bottle opener from French brand Christofle has a subtly nautical feel, resembling the eyelets of a yacht. 14 Designed by Aurelien Barbry for Georg Jensen, the Barbry Chef’s knife was inspired by the aesthetic and craftsmanship of New Nordic Cuisine. It measures 13 inches tall and is made of oak and stainless steel. SURFACE 70 71 SURVEY SURVEY 15 16 16 Designed by Scholten & Baijings, Elements is one of two inaugural collections from the new mouth-blown, hand-cut crystal maker J. Hill’s Standard, based in Ireland. The series includes various glass types and decanters. 15 This lightweight Variopinte flatware set was designed by Stefania di Petrillo for MoMA Design Store. Each of the metal utensils is enameled by hand with a blend of pigment and glass powder to produce a high-gloss finish. SURFACE 72 73 SURVEY SURVEY 17 18 17 18 Reiko Kaneko’s Terracotta pitcher for SCP is hand-thrown and available in a range of glazed, partially glazed, and unglazed options. The natural clay material carries a rich red-orange hue and high iron content. Modular and geometric, Scandola Marmi’s Puzzle candleholders feature interlocking shapes that can be easily rearranged. They come in varying heights and colors of marble, including black, gray, and green. SURFACE 74 75
