BASICS
Power
There are two types of pressure washers.
Electric:
These compact, lightweight units are low maintenance and
provide continuous power, with no need to add fuel or oil.
Best for occasional, small- to medium-sized cleaning projects.
Gas:
Versatile and convenient, these units free you from the need
to locate an electrical outlet or manage extension cords.
More powerful than electric pressure washers, these durable
units enable frequent- to heavy-duty use for virtually any
size of cleaning project.
Performance
Pressure washer performance is measured in PSI,
GPM and CU.
PSI – pounds per square inch of water pressure created
by the pump. This gives you the power to penetrate dirt
and grime.
GPM – gallons per minute, or volume, of water delivered
to the spray gun. This provides the power to break down
dirt and wash it away.
CU – cleaning units is the measurement of pressure (PSI)
and flow (GPM) achieved from a spray nozzle. It is the
most accurate way of measuring the total cleaning speed
and power of a pressure washer. The higher the CU, the
greater the variety of items you can clean and the more
time you save.
Frequency and type of cleaning
A pressure washer can be classified as suitable for either:
lightweight, occasional cleaning
reliable performance, frequent cleaning or
long life, heavy cleaning
To choose the right type, consider following questions:
