2013 Annual Report
BACOA Endow m e nt To commemorate our 25th anniversary in 2010, BACOA established an endowment fund to ensure long-term continuation of services to seniors, family caregivers and the community. Three generous donors created a challenge grant of $75,000, with the provision that it be matched by donations during the anniversary year. That challenge was met and exceeded during 2010-2011 . We thank those who have given and who continue to give to create a secure future for BACOA. The following donors have contributed or pledged to the fund: Challenge Grant Donors Kimberly Duchossois Jody Paine Frederica Smith Pederson $25,000+ Anonymous, in honor ÿ of Pamela McCord Diane and Norval Stephens $10,000-$24,999 Rosemarie and Thomas Mitchell Betty Reed Linda and David Sheppard $5,000-$9,999 Annette and James Baird Dee and Mark Beaubien Clare and Harry Logue Bank of America Charitable ÿFoundation Paine Family Foundation $1,000-$2,499 Pam and Thomas Frech Claire and Eric Leininger Pamela McCord Joyce Palmquist and ÿ Douglas Saylor Mary and John Williams $2,500-$4,999 Barrington Bank & Trust Anonymous Donna and Michale Konie Julie and Charles Parsons Meg and George Peirce Cathy Schulze and Denny Coll Below $1,000 or other gifts Allstate Giving Campaign Amy Bash BMO Harris Bank Carol Beese Elizabeth Bodie-Gross and ÿ David Gross Sylvia and Les Boeder Jan and Thomas Broadfoot PARTN E R S Becky Budinger Colleen Clare and ÿ Larry Ginsberg Trust of Marie Durigan Susan Grossinger and ÿ John Brodersen Jill and Erik Hawkins Nancy and Ron Hamelberg Elizabeth and Robert Koch Peer Lykke and Janet Agnoletti Morgan Stanley Matching Gifts Kathleen Morno and ÿ Romarez Moody Connie and Thomas Schofield Barbara and Richard Tomasello Charlene and James Wilson Mary Irene Wheeler Lois Wollney In December, we worked with the Barrington Police Department to make winter a little safer for seniors with free car safety checks. Mechanics from Marquardt of Barrington conducted the inspections and gave participants a written checklist if their cars needed further attention. No one loves income tax time, but AARP volunteers put in countless hours every year to make the process a little more bearable. In 2012, 229 seniors had their taxes done in our offices. Caroling preschoolers from the Children’s Preschool Workshop helped to make the season bright at BACOA’s holiday luncheon. In C ari n g Partners in Caring is a partnership of donors dedicated to supporting the Barrington Area Council on Aging’s mission to serve seniors, family caregivers and the community. All support is deeply appreciated by the Board of Directors, Advisory Board and staff. Gifts listed were received from April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2013. Every effort has been made to ensure that this list is accurate. If your name has been omitted, misspelled, or misplaced, we apologize. Matching gift contributions are recognized by company name at the match level. Please contact BACOA with any questions or corrections. Actually, we do. We want seniors to know their own power—to feel strong and independent. To share their knowledge and experience. To remain vital and active in our community. Sometimes that’s easy for BACOA to help with. We can offer a class in healthy aging. Or volunteer opportunities. Or a weekly lunch where seniors can catch up with friends old and new. During Fiscal Year 2013, we helped 1200 people Other times, feeling powerful can be a little more difficult, and BACOA helps there, too. A home-delivered meal, a detangled insurance question, some guidance on a caregiving issue, or even a friendly shoulder to lean on—they all make a big difference in how well you can take on the challenges of growing older. The best way we know to enhance the power of older adults is to give them the tools they need to remain vital and engaged. Some of it is serious, some of it is fun, some of it is just hard work. But the results are always worth it.
