HI EVERYBODY!
A summer evening visiting Hovedøya was enjoyed by a group of INN members.
With the help of a knowledgeable guide we were taken through the fascinating
history of the island and the important role it played in the development of Oslo
through many centuries.
From the Cistercian monks to quarantine stations. Through military battalions
to a popular recreation area today. Hovedøya has a rich culture.
INN events give our members a chance to experience special areas of the city
as well as meet and enjoy the company of new friends!

Explore the creative art of Gustav Vigeland, August 13
The Vigeland Park, completed between 1939 and 1949, is the world’s largest
sculpture park made by a single artist, and is one of Norway’s most popular
tourist attractions.
The unique sculpture park is Gustav Vigeland’s lifework with more than 200
sculptures in bronze, granite and wrought iron.

MAJOR EVENTS/FESTIVALS
Sankt Hans 2016
Oslo will be celebrating Midsummer’s Eve in style with bonfires, good food and live
music along the fjord from Høvikodden in the west to Hvervenbukta in the east.
The celebrations are open to all, and with the exception of the events at the Folk
Museum, they are all free.

Piknik i Parken, Vigeland-museet, June 24 - 26
Piknik i Parken (Picnic in the Park) is a relatively new music festival in
Oslo, with a particular focus on quality and a laid-back and intimate
atmosphere.
The festival takes place in the park by the Vigeland Museum, with
performances by both international and Norwegian artists, on three
different stages.

Over Oslo, until June 25
Over Oslo is an annual summer festival with four nights of concerts at
Scene Grefsenkollen, a stage on a hill 377 metres above the city.

How to get there: There are free shuttle buses from Storo Storsenter’s
main entrance and Grefsenkollen.

Norwegian Folk Museum: Traditional family celebration with a “children’s wedding”,
games and activities, concerts, barbecues, with shops and cafés open late.
Hvervenbukta: Celebration at the beach with a concert, open café, flower garlands
and a bonfire.
Sukkerbiten: Celebration with a boat procession, DJ Olle Abstract, a bonfire and
food trucks, Sukkerbiten’s restaurant or your own picnic basket.
Tjuvholmen: Outdoor concerts and bonfire at the tip of Tjuvholmen. Art Night at the
Astrup Fearnley Museum with drinks, DJs and exhibitions open late.
Høvikodden: Midsummer at Henie Onstad Art Centre with flower garlands, live
music, a bonfire, art activities and open exhibitions.
Oslo Pride 2016, until June 26
Large festival for the lesbian and gay population, with concerts, art exhibits, shows,
political debates and a big festival area.
Oslo Pride’s aim is to make gay culture visible and contribute to increased acceptance
and respect for the gay part of the capital’s diverse population.
The big Oslo Pride Parade will pass through the streets of Oslo, and tens of thousands of people are expected to join or
watch what has become one of Oslo’s largest public celebrations. The parade will start June 25 at 13:00 from Grønland,
pass through the city centre and end at the festival’s hub, the Pride Park in Spikersuppa.

Art Night, Astrup Fearnley Museet, June 23 at 19:00
New evening concept at the Astrup Fearnley Museum with open exhibition, drinks
and DJs. One Thursday a month Astrup Fearnley invites you to experience the current
temporary exhibit for only 50 NOK until 21:00. The bar will be open and DJs will be
playing in the foyer until 01:00.
This Thursday, Bangles & Brass will be DJ’ing from 19:00, followed by Ole & Silje
Caveman. There will also be an art chat on the current exhibition at 19:30 and 20:30.

Nora around the World, Nasjonalbiblioteket, until
September 10
“A Doll’s House” by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen is one
of the world’s most performed plays, and Nora Helmer is one of
the most powerful female characters in world drama. So how is
Nora presented in different parts of the world? Through theatre
programmes, posters, books and film clips from six continents, the
exhibition shows the various facets of Nora from caged songbird
to emancipated woman on her way to a new and unfamiliar life.
The exhibition also includes Henrik Ibsen’s original manuscript
and notes to “A Doll’s House”, both inscribed in UNESCO’s Memory
of the World Register.

VG-lista 2016, Rådhusplassen, June 24 from 19:00 – 22:00
Scandinavia’s largest outdoor concert takes place every year at the City Hall
Square at the end of June.
Top Norwegian and international artists with hits from the past year will share
the stage with established artists and potential new summer hit makers.
Artists in 2016: Marcus and Martinus, Matoma, Alan Walker, Isac Elliot,
Paperboys, The Main Level, Astrid S, Julie Bergan, Sonny Alven, Sondre
Justad, Katastrofe, Ina Wroldsen, Freddy Kalas, Unge Ferrari, Madden, Sabina
Ddumba and Sandra Lyng.
The concert is free and open for everyone.

Christine Gebs: From Bach to Brindle, June 23, 25 and 28
Classical guitarist Christine Gebs is currently on tour with the concert “From Bach
to Brindle”, where she performs music from the classical guitar repertoire. The tour
will include three concerts in Oslo:
June 23: Grefsen church at 18:00
June 25: Aktivisten café at 19:00
June 28: Maridalen church at 18:00

Guided Tour of the Royal Palace, until August 14 at 12:00, 14:00, 14:20 and 16:00
The Royal Palace in Oslo will be open to the public during the summer and offer guided
tours in English.
The guided tour takes visitors through some of the most beautiful state rooms in the
Royal Palace: Cabinet Cloakroom, Cabinet Parlour, Council Chamber, White Parlour, King
Haakon VII Suite, Upper Vestibule, Bird Room, Mirror Hall, Family Dining Room, Small
Ceremonial Hall, Great Hall and the Banqueting Hall.
We strongly recommend a visit to the Royal Palace. A tour not to be missed!

GUIDED TOURS
Oslo Climbing Park, until October 30
Climbing park in the woods with seven challenging courses with more
than 70 elements, including several Tarzan jumps and zip lines!
The park is located by Bånkall Farm in the Groruddalen valley northeast
in Oslo and is open to the public every year from April to October.

Skulptur på Akershus: Laura Ford, Akershus Festning, until October 2
The grounds of the venerable Akershus Fortress will turn into a sculpture park this
summer, as 22 sculptures by the renowned British contemporary artist are on
outdoor display. This will be the first exhibition by Laura Ford in Norway, and is
suitable for the whole family.
Laura Ford is known for her sculptures of animals and humans, which have a
distinctive knack for touching and engaging the spectators. When Ford creates her
sculptures play is an integral part of the process, and she invites her viewers to join
in. There is no right or wrong way to look at the sculptures - you’re completely free
to feel what you want and create your own stories about them.
Laura Ford (b. 1961) has studied at Bath Academy of Art and Cooper Union School
of Art, New York, under Richard Deacon, Nick Pope, Antony Gormley and Anish
Kapoor. Her works have been acquired by Tate Gallery in London, among others.

Pakistani Voices, Nasjonalbiblioteket, June 23 at 15:00 and
June 24 – 25 at 12:00
Pakistani Voices - Contemporary Overview is described as a visual
and intellectual journey, and offers three days of debates, dialogue
and discussions with Pakistani artists, authors and intellectuals.
The events are free of charge and open to all.

Norsk Tipping Norwegian Grand Prix, Bislett Stadion, June 24

National athletics event at the famous Bislett Stadium, where some
of Norway’s foremost athletes will compete and try and qualify for
the upcoming Olympics.

Euro 2016 Outdoor Screenings, Kontraskjæret, Akershus Festning, until July
10
All Euro 2016 football matches will be shown live on a huge outdoor screen at
Kontraskjæret.
Watch the action along with thousands of other football fans - for free!
Food and drink can be purchased inside the screening area.
The arena opens two hours before the game, and it is recommended to get there early
if you want to secure a seat. Tables and VIP seats can be reserved in advance for a
fee here.

Mat og Havnefestival, Halden Torg, June 24 - 26
During the Food and Harbour Festival, the guest harbour will be filled
with new and old, big and small wood boats coming from both near
and far. The market place will transform into a giant restaurant
offering exciting dishes and drinks. The festival will feature outdoor
concerts, an amusement park and other entertainment for big and
small visitors.
During the three days of the festival the town is full of life, a good
time for visitors and locals alike.

Tons of Rock, Fredriksten Festning, June 23 - 25
Tons of Rock Festival is becoming one of the most exciting festivals
in Scandinavia. With a wide genre, the festival includes artists from
classic rock to the famous Norwegian black metal scene.
The festival takes place inside the fortress walls itself, giving both the
audience and the artists a unique experience.
Close to the Swedish border and overlooking the beautiful city of
Halden, Fredriksten Fortress was built in 1660. Among many historic
events, the most famous is the battle in 1718 - where Swedish King
Charles XII was killed.
