WEEKEND SUGGESTIONS
Week 3
HI EVERYBODY!
• Akebanen, Midtstulia
The sledding Association in Oslo has at its disposal a natural ice course
located by the old ski jump at Midtstuen, in addition to Korektrekkeren.
Midtstulia meets the demands of an international competition course.
• Unnarennet, Holmenkollbakken
Is it legal, still? Has it ever been there?
Unnarennet was used with great delight in the old days: great fun and
very, very steep!
• Korketrekkeren
Korketrekkeren or Korken, as it is called, reigns over all the other sledding
courses. Take the metro to Frognerseteren and sled down to Midstuen.
From here, take the metro up again and repeat until you can’t any more!

Fast-paced fun in the snow!
When the city is covered with snow and the sun is shining, what can be better than going sledding?
Here is a list of some sledding areas in Oslo, so that you easily find your way:
Other sledding locations in Oslo:
Tøyenparken (below Tøyenbadet / above the Munch Museum): Steep and fun course.
St.Hanshaugen: From Tårnbassenget down it is very steep, and there is often some running water suitable for sledding when
it is icy. You may either sled right on your bottom, or with a black plastic bag. You may also sled on the way down to the
lake with a steering sled.
Uranienborgparken: Short hill suitable for younger children.
Torshovdalen
Ola Narr, Carl Berners Plass:Nice sledding course for the whole family.
Vellabakken, Kjelsås: Small sledding course with stairs for the little ones by Grefsen Terrassehus.
Akebakken, Grefsenkollen: Drive or take the bus up to Grefsenkollen Restaurant and sled the lit trail. The trip takes about
fifteen minutes and is suitable for everyone.

A Doll’s House, Den Norske Opera & Ballett, until January 23
A Doll’s House is choreographer Jo Strømgren’s take on Henrik Ibsen’s
immortal drama, performed in English by American actors.
A Doll’s House may very well be the most-performed play in the world, and
has been twisted and turned in all possible directions. The version from Jo
Strømgren Kompani is faithful to Ibsen’s text, but takes us outside of the
four walls of the house to show what the characters are up to before and
after their actions in the drama. With a physical and grotesque design, we
are exposed to the anguish of the soul and the disintegration of facades,
bittersweet stings and existential matters.

La Traviata, Den Norske Opera & Ballett, until February 28
Guideppe Verdi’s opera La traviata, about the freedom-seeking Violetta Valéry, is
loved by people across the globe. La Traviata put mid-19th century society in the
spotlight, with all its diseases and its problems, and dressed it up in music. Gentle
strings, sounding almost as if they are the tuberculosis sufferers gasping for air,
are set against the party music and Violetta’s triumphant aria, «Sempre libera!» –
Always free!
This production of La Traviata is directed by Tatjana Gürbaca, named «Drector of
the Year» by Opernwelt magazine in 2013. She highlights, in particular, one of the
opera’s central questions: to what extent are we free to determine what kind of life
we lead?
