Oslo Jazz Festival presents Jan Garbarek Group featuring Trilok Gurtu as the opening concert at the Norwegian Opera &
Ballet, marking the festival’s 30th anniversary in 2016.
Garbarek played at festivals in Warsaw and Prague with Karin Krogh as far back as 1966. With his own quartet consisting
of Terje Rypdal, Arild Andersen and Jon Christensen, they recorded and toured clubs and jazz festivals. He also worked with
the American jazz musician George Russell who stated that Garbarek was “the largest European-style creator since Django
Reinhardt”.
Jan Garbarek has never been at a standstill musically, but the “Garbarek sound” is easily recognisable no matter what
musical context he explores. He has listened to and been inspired by the greatest jazz, classical and folk music from various
regions of the world and constantly worked purposefully with his own expression. Click here for more information and to get
