Church Family,
I want to take this opportunity to update you on the progress the CLC is making to implement the
recommendations set forth by the Vision Task Force in the Vision Task Force Report.
With the wonderful leadership and guidance of Bob Wallace (Chair of the CLC) and the hard work
of its members, we have a plan on how to begin implementing the many recommendations
presented to the church body.
Let me begin by noting that any recommendation requiring a church vote will be afforded that
opportunity. From the beginning of this process, the Vision Task Force and the CLC have tried to
be as transparent as possible.
The CLC has assigned a council, committee or staff person ownership over every
recommendation, and aforementioned “owners” have the responsibility of developing a plan that
will result in the accomplishment of each recommendation pending church approval. As Bob
Wallace has announced, the CLC plans on presenting the church with the specific “plans” for each
recommendation at the quarterly business meeting this summer.
Since it would take too much “space” to report on each recommendation, I thought you might
appreciate a few highlights:
1) The search is well underway for two new ministers. We have created a search committee in
charge of finding and recommending a Youth Minister and a Spiritual Formation pastor. Jon
Kelley is the chair of this committee and is doing a wonderful job moving us forward in the
process. Please let us know if you have a name of somebody you think we should consider
for either position.
2) Ed Olson and Mike Scott have already led a town hall meeting to discuss what (if anything)
should be done to improve our facilities and we are nearing the time where a steering
committee is to be formed whose responsibility it will be to present the church with options
regarding the future of our facilities.
3) We are anxiously awaiting the new minister(s) arrival after such time we will begin an
alternative worship service that complements our traditional 11:00 worship service.
4) Ray and I are identifying ways in which we can differentiate the 8:45 Worship service from
the 11:00 Worship service by adding contemplative and reflective elements in order to “fit”
the already serene feel of the earlier service. Due to the summer worship schedule, these
changes will be introduced after Labor Day.
5) The deacons will soon begin looking at the mission and vision statement suggested by the
Vision Task Force and offer small but important edits so that it “fits” with who we are and
where we want to go as a church.
And those are only five recommendations…
As you can tell, I am excited about the direction and future of McLean Baptist Church. We have
enjoyed a wonderful past and we look forward to a bright future.
I am truly humbled and grateful to be your pastor as we journey down this vision road!
I will see you on Sunday; it looks like it is going to be a great day!

BAPTISM CELEBRATIONS
Matthew 28: 18-20 “And Jesus came and spoke to them
saying, ‘All authority has been given to me on heaven and on
earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have
commanded you. And I will be with you always, even until
the end of the age’.
MBC celebrated the baptisms of 2
of its younger members
recently. Baptisms are always a
special time in the life of the
church and our prayer is that all of
MBC's children will grow up with
a deep knowledge of who God is
and how much He loves them.
Calvin Dovgalyuk was baptized
on
Sunday,
April 26.
Calvin is the son of Timofey & Andrea Dovgalyuk, little
brother of Nicolas and Mia, big brother of Genevieve,
and grandson of Mikhail & Lyuba Dovgalyuk and Pat &
Melinda Horner. Calvin is a 1st grade student at Franklin
Sherman Elementary.
Daniel “Xander” Ashcraft was
baptized on Sunday, May 17.
Xander is the son of David and
Amy Ashcraft. Xander is a 2nd
grade student in the French
Immersion program at Kent
Gardens Elementary.
May 2nd turned out to be a perfect morning for the Annual River Run
for Orphans: sunny and in the 60's. Runners of all ages gathered
early in the morning at Hains Point to participate in either a 1 mile run
or a 5K race. Bob Licitra and Sherlie Scribner served as event
organizers and were aided by several MBC volunteers including Keith
Fagan, Faye Olson, and Michele Zimmer-Forester and more.
The race raised important funds for Children’s Fund, which directly
profits the lives of orphans. This year’s event drew participation
from over 70 runners and raised over $6,000 dollars. Participants
earned a t-shirt and winners were eligible for many great prizes,
including gift certificates from popular restaurants and businesses.
MBC was well represented in the race, with representatives from our
Pre-K, children's, youth, adult, and Adult Adventurer groups! Be sure
to participate next year if you can - it's a great way to get some
exercise, enjoy the outdoors, and most importantly support vital
mission efforts.
The annual McLean Day festival was held on May 16. Thousands of
local and area residents flocked to Lewinsville Park to enjoy live
music and entertainment, carnival rides and games, food trucks,
and community and business sponsored booths.
The Outreach Committee, chaired by Marinetta Hjort, worked
tirelessly to create an attractive booth that would draw and
engage visitors. MBC's many ministries were highlighted through a
beautiful photo display, a children's craft was provided and there
was lots of great information about upcoming church events, like
the movie night on June 12.
Several MBC members gave of their time to help set up and break
down the booth, as well as welcome and visit with all of the people
that stopped by to inquire about MBC and its ministries.
It was a HOT day, but our members pulled together and
represented MBC very well, seeking to welcome newcomers to the
area looking for a new church and inviting many others to check
out all that MBC has to offer!
