At press time Gabe was still 3
days away from Homer Alaska
nursing a fractured ankle from
his Elk run-in during Hoka Hey.
Mrs and Mrs. E.B. Chester also
did the run but their whereabouts are also not known.
Hopefully everyone will return
safely and will have some good
stories to tell. (It was reported
there were 2 deaths and we extend our condolenses
to their family and friends) Read more about the
Hoka Hey event on the internet. We also think
#168 may be the winner but it takes a week to
confirm they rode correctly and didn’t cheat.
Other less dangerous, and fun events this month
were the July 4th Firewoks at O’Meara’s. Live
music by Shovelhead made this even better. The
Alternative MC held their party at their revamped
clubhouse. The vittles were tasty and the drinks
cold. Cagney’s held their 2nd, 5th Anniversary
party. The 1st, 5th was sort of a washout... this one
wasn’t by any stretch of the imagination. You were
there weren’t you? Los Couquis MC held their
party right after the Fly~In Wheels held their
Christmas in July party at Mickey’s Tiki Bar...
which will be having a grand opening on the 16th.
Both club parties were well attended. Good food,
music and good times like in the olden days. The
Paralyzed vets event at the Sports Barn was not
well attended. The nasty weather takes the blame.
But the sexy bartenders, Soulicide & Lee Tiger put
on great performances and those who were there
enjoyed the afternoon. The Wheels of Man MC
held their annual Chili Cookoff at their clubhouse.
About 150 were in attendance and there was plenty
of tasty (and hot) chili to go around. Bob from
O’Malley’s won the coveted trophy and $1 million
dollar prize money. (well no, not that much you
dummies). Billy the Kid and Johnny the Kid both
celebrated their birthdays in July. (A lot of us did
but we are too old to talk about it) Lots of food and
drinks and cake at both parties... Johnny said that
it’s time for him to take over as the “Kid” so Billy
can now be the “Man”. Gabe and Chesters had
Hoka Hey go-away parties. Gabes featured free
beer and 1, 5, or 10 wacks (depending on if you
listened to me or not) with a sledge hammer and a
not-running, oil-less Jap something or other.
Chesters featured free Booze and plenty of
sandwiches, fresh fruit, popcorn and Bobby B...
(We tried wacking Bobby with a ball peen hammer
but he wouldn’t fall down...) Fun parties. Next time
I suggest Gabe has his party at Chesters... (the
buffet and drinks are better) That’s if Gabe does
this again... The Chrome Angels summer party at
O’Meara’s was also very nice. It started at 4 and
went through the hot part of the day til late. The
food buffet was awesome, especially theose sticky
bread thingamajigs. Check the flyers for all the
Aug. events like the Tattoo Expo, AOA 47th and
Chef Joel’s 7th WOTR Anniversary at Wetz Pub.

RIDING
RIDING,, DOWN SOUTH
“In Loving Memory of My Dad”
By Axman... [email protected]
This month was an emotional roller coaster for Vicky and I. Our, let
me rephrase it, my wife’s cat ‘Princess’ got very sick and we had to take
her to the vet. We took her to the Balasky Animal Hospital located at
11701 Orange Drive in Davie. We used them in the past for our other
cats Misty and Sheba. Dr. Balasky and his staff are very courteous and
friendly. His clinic is very clean. We took her in around 4:00 p.m. on
Wednesday (06/23). He immediately detected that she had several large
lumps in her abdomen area. They did some bloodwork right away and
the good news was that she did not have feline HIV. More tests were
done AND it turned out that she had developed some large tumors in her
abdomen. The only way he could save her was to open her up and try to
take out the tumor which he did. He is very positive that he got
everything out. He has sent a sample to the lab in order to find out the
nature of the tumor. I was able to visit her later on that Friday and I
spent another 45 minutes on Saturday with her. Hopefully, in a few days
we will be able to take her home. Her sister ‘Precious’ and her brother
‘Dusty’ have already been waiting for her. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank Dr. Balasky and his staff for taking such good care
of our baby. If you are looking for an excellent vet look no further. The
Balaksy Animal Hospital is Axman approved.
The month of
July had some
great events in
store for us.
First there was

Christmas in
July Party. It
took place on July
5th at Mickey’s
Tiki Bar. I arrived
late and I was
greeted by some
spectacular
fireworks which
was sent into the
air right in front of
the bar. Live music
was provided by

THE DAVE CARTER UPDATE!!!
Dave’s condition has not
improved and at this time does
not look to get any better. Lisa
and Chelsea appreciate all the
support they have received in the
past from the biker community.
Lisa also said that she does
NOT want any organization, hall,
club or bar to hold a ‘Wake Up
Dave’ service, but she said that
everyone should personally keep
Dave in their thoughts and
prayers... Miami Mike
I’m not
doing
well, keep
praying.

kicked ass as usual. The food looked really good, but I had dinner with
my wife before I rode out. It was a great turnout and everybody seemed
to have had a
good time.
On my way
home I made a
rather long pitstop at Cagney’s.
It was Tatjana
Beaty and Kelly
Farr’s Birthday
Bash. I had
meant to only
have a nightcap,
but then I started
listening to the bad “Deception” and I was
blown away by their perforamance. Needless
to say, I stayed much longer than
anticipated.
The
following
day (07/06) I was off to the Sports
Barn where the Paralyzed Veterans
of America Florida Chapter Event
took place. Unfortunately, the
weather looked really shitty which
had a huge impact on the
attendance. Nevertheless, those of
you who showed up enjoyed the
great tunes of Soulicide and a guest
appearance by Lee Tiger of the
Tiger Tiger Band. A free BBQ plus
a 16 once draft beer was made
available for all military personnel
with proper I.D. Drink specials and
50/50 raffles rounded up this great
event. On my way back home I
considered myself very lucky that I
LUFQ
took the cage that afternoon as a torrential downpour flooded the street.
When I turned left coming from Davie Blvd onto State Route 84 I
noticed a guy who was stranded on his Harley. I got out of my car and
helped him push his scoot underneath the over-pass. He had already help
on the way. He was very thankful for my help. I got soaking wet after
all, but I did not care.
On Saturday (07/12) I rode over to the American Legion Post 180 on
1280 SW 44th Terrace, Plantation, where Gabriel Carrera, The Attorney
“The South Florida Biker’s Bible Since 1999 - Pray for Dave!!!
14 Years - August 2014 • Issue #178 • Page 12
That Rides held his
“Alaska or Bust ! Hoka Hey
Challenge Bon
Voyage Party”. It
was a very hot
afternoon and I was
glad that the
American Legion
provided lots of
room inside where
the a/c was working
just fine. A rather
large group of bikers had
shown up for this event, which
was no wonder: Free beer and
“Wack a Jap” bike will do this
for you. The “Hired Gunz
Band” & “Nash Carry”
provided the musical
entertainment for the
afternoon. Two full liquor bars,
Laura Doan (The Masseuse
That Rides!), raffles, vendors,
50/50 and great food were the
key ingredients for a great
party. Hammer, from Der
Krieger MC
provided Gabriel
with a plaque for
his support to
make their Annual
a huge success.
The highlight of
the afternoon was
certainly the
bashing of the
“Jap Bike” with a
sledgehammer.
Almost everybody
swung the sledge
and had a good
time. Those who did not swing, enjoyed watching the spectacle unfold.
Ride safe Gabriel. (He already hit and killed an Elk but is OK... more on
his adventure next month but... he didn’t win. Looks like #168 might
have gotten to Homer first... but we have to wait 1 week for the final
results... MM)
Later on that evening I went to Mickey’s Tiki Bar again as Los Coquis

Chairman / Executive Director of BBRCF
Smiles 4 Kids 2015 and more
First some very sad news; our former BBRA President, Bill
“Rockey” Snedden has passed away from the terrible cancer that
he so bravely and boldly battled. Rockey was a good soul doing
much for kids even before he
became involved with BBRA. There
was a wonderful memorial service
for Rockey at Mikey’s Tiki Bar on
Sunday the 27th with many friends
in attendence. God-Speed Rockey.
And may you rest in peace. Bill
“Rockey” Snedden - GBNF.
Now we must look to new BBRCF
events on the horizon with great
anticipation. First up the end of
August is that BRCF will be at South Beach Bike Week in the vendor
area. We will be providing noise testing for FREE on motorcycles as a
public service. BBRCF was one of the recipients of a sound meter testing
system and have agreed to do these tests for bikers so they are aware of
their motorcycle’s compliance with local and statewide noise ordinances.
Look for us at the South Beach event the end of this month. Participating in the event with us will be
Bikers Against Drunk Drivers. www.BADDCentral.com. BBRCF is an affiliate and sponsored
organization with BADD. We are very proud of our involvement with BADD and Founder, Danny
Perkins. We also will be taking pre-registration for the 41st Annual Peterson’s Poker Run in Key West.
We will once again partner with Jorge and his crew from Road Rage Magazine to produce the Bike
Show September 20th. Look for us on Duval Street at Caroline to register the morning of the show.
As you may be aware, all things come to an end. There will be NO escorted ride for SMILES in 2015.
The logistics have just proven to be too much to endure and we decided to produce a different event
with a more family oriented appeal. Maybe even a first time ever in South Florida - a Moto Giro road
event. We have started our planning meetings and we are seeking those that would like to participate to
reach out and let me know. We need people who are dedicated to producing an event that will dazzle
all that attend. With no escorted ride we do plan on vendors, a Car & Bike show, live music all day,
Food trucks, and a unique “Touch A Truck” event just for the kids. We are doing our due diligence and
looking into having a “Moto-Giro Ride”. This is a mapped course that leaves a predetermined location
and navigates the area to arrive at the event within a window of time. This will be open to all bikes,
from scooters to heavy weight bikes; it is a lot of fun. We will let you know more soon. Check out our
updates on Facebook or on our website at www.BikersCare4Kids.org.
So be watching things as we post up to our Facebook and in ads here in Wheels on the Road.

Check out my great
friends on the cover!
A recent club ride took us up in the 6,000 ft. high
mountains on the northeast side of the central valley. This
was the first time for me, to see from this location down in
the valley where 1.5 million people live, and where San Jose,
with its 360,000 people are located. After the lookout stop we
continued riding on narrow, but paved roads thru isolated
farms until we ended up on a road leading to the Irazu
Volcano. Nearby was a old vacant mental hospital. We paid a
fee and walked thru the dark buildings while listening to
strange people screaming like former patients must have
done. Next, on the way home we stopped at the famous
Whiskey Biker Bar to check out their Annual Motorcycle
Parts Flea Market. After a few drinks and a look around we
went to our SAM/C club house to watch Costa Rica in a
World Cup soccer match. Gabe, our attorney that rides,
A.K.A. “Harlero Abogado” was in town and joined us for the
viewing fiesta. C.R. won that match and the whole country
was dancing in the streets. Of course they lost the next one
against Holland.

ABATE
UPDATE
By Bars, SE Chapter President
[email protected]
On Saturday June 28th the Palm Beach
Chapter of ABATE held their Annual
Freedom Rights Rally at the Brass
Monkey Tavern in Lake Worth. At least
ten of our members showed up to support
Nighthawk and all the Palm Beach
Chapter members. When we got there the
parking lot was starting to fill up and the
tavern was getting packed. They set up
their Safety & Membership Booth for the
crowd to look at and get the word out
about ABATE and motorcycle safety. The
music was by Scar of the Tropics (AKA as
Elegant Mess) and there were plenty of
vendors to look at.
On Sunday June 29th our chapter met at the American Legion Post
321 in Cooper City for a ride to the Elks Lodge 2365 in Hollywood
for the US Military Vets MC Deuces Wild Chapter’s 16th Annual
Party. They had so many chapters of the Military Vets show up that
if I tried to mention them all I would be afraid that I would miss
some of them and I wouldn’t want to
do that. There was a huge buffet to
choose from. The parking lot was
full of bikes and there were plenty of
vendors to look at. You could sit
outside at the Tiki Bar or sit inside
in the air conditioning while
listening to the Hoodoo Blues Band.
On June 30th at 5:30 AM I
checked myself into Broward
General Hospital for a lumbar
laminectomy. Dr Amos Stoll
operated on me. The procedure
involves removal of bone spurs from
the spine to relieve pressure on the
nerve roots. They had me up and
walking the same day and I started to feel better right away. The next
day they released me and I am improving every day. By the time you
read this I should be able to take the bike out for a ride.
On July 5th the Fly~In Wheels had their Christmas in July Party at
Mickey’s Bar. From what I heard the place was packed with great
food and music by Sucker Punch. I would have loved to be there but
just being out of the hospital for only a few days it was best that I
stayed home.
On July 12th & 13th, ABATE of Florida, Inc. held the annual
Leadership Seminars in Clermont. On the 12th we started going to
seminars. The first was Products with me, Bev, Gambler, Shakie Bob
and Princess Sharon. Next was Delegate with myself
and Bev sitting in, then on to Secretary and Insurance
which lasted for two hours. We had a lunch break then
Newsletter with Cesar and then Sergeant at Arms. Our
Treasurer Frank T was in class for 4 hours and that’s a
lot to sit through. Gambler, Bev, Shakie Bob & Sharon
also attended the Safety seminar. After all the seminars
were done on Saturday we went to the Tiki Bar for
some liquid refreshment but with our luck it started to
rain so we moved inside and kept on partying. On
Sunday Bev, myself and Vice-President Poppie
attended the President’s meeting. If you think that we
just go to party ask anyone who attended and they will
tell you differently. It was good to see ‘Doc”
LUFQ
Reichenbach back as our state President and I know that our new
state Vice-President “Mudder” will do a great job as well.
Unfortunately, because I was in Clermont for the weekend I had to
miss a couple of parties. Alice was able to fill in for me and tells me
that the Los Coquis Party at Mickey’s Bar on the 12th was
a complete blow-out with bikes parked on both sides of the
street. The food was a Latino feast and music by four
different bands. We also celebrated our June/July ABATE
birthdays and people are still talking about the delicious
birthday cake.
On Sunday Alice attended the Alternative MC 20th OffAnnual at their clubhouse in Fort Lauderdale. Even though
some people got rained on the ride over the afternoon was
clear and sunny. Everyone took advantage of the now
closed in and air conditioned clubhouse. Plenty of good
food and friendship.
On Saturday the 19th of July the Wheels of Man MC held
their 14th Annual Chili Cook-Off at their clubhouse in
Deerfield Beach. Alice & I have been talking about
entering for a long time and this year we finally did. I
counted at least 10 different chili’s. Needless to say the food was
great and we had a wonderful time even though we didn’t win. Bob
from O’Malley’s Bar took home the trophy. It was also Ghost and
Smiley’s Birthdays as well as Miami Mikes’. The music was by the
Everglades Blues Band.
On Sunday the 20th the Southeast Chapter of ABATE held our
monthly meeting at the American Legion in Cooper City. I would
like to thank all the members of the Southeast Chapter of ABATE for
reelecting me and the rest of the executive board to a 3rd term.
After the meeting we rode to the States MC Lake Worth Chapter
for their Off –Annual. By the
time we got there the
parking lot was full of bikes
& cages. It was good to see
all the different MC’s from
Palm Beach all partying
together. The food they were
cooking on the grill looked
and tasted great. The music
was by Elegant Mess who
played all day.
Remember, HERE
TODAY GONE TODAY.

Motorcycling Doctors Association
(MDA)
By Dr. Edward N. Szerlip
Past president, Motorcycling Doctors Association
(e-mail: [email protected])
This association is framed around a
Constitution and Bylaws! The purpose of this
organization is to contribute to the welfare and
safety of motorcyclists and participants,
through educating and informing members and
non-members about issues related to
motorcycling and to continually update and
educate members and others about subjects
relating to the juxtaposition of motorcycling
and the healing arts and health care
professions.
This is what MDA is truly all about. At our
meetings, among other topics, our seminars are
generally focused on delivering what’s “good
for our health” while enjoying the sport of
motorcycling.
The membership is composed of those
holding doctoral degrees as in doctors of
medicine, dentistry, podiatric medicine, and
veterinary medicine. Others in ancillary
medical fields and “friends” may become
associate members by “vote” of the MDA
board.
MDA is now in its 37th year of operation and
was the brainchild of Dr. A. Ranold MacKenzi,
a urologist from Pt. Lookout, Long Island NY.
Interesting enough a Scotchman hailing from
Dunfermline, Scotland, not to far from the Isle
of Man (long history of famous motorcycling
racing). Along with him, Dr. Jack Goldberg, an
ophthalmologist from Westerville Ohio, and
Dr. Robert C. Colvin, a general practitioner
from Newburgh, IN. and a few others got
together and formed the MDA. This being their
first meeting on Aug. 27, 1977 in
Independence Missouri. I came along in 1979.
The MDA is an organization where there’s a
warmth and camaraderie that goes beyond the
enjoyment of the sport of motorcycling, and
melds in our basic love and caring for people
that helps us relate to each other and to create
long standing bonds that have endured for
many years.
As a member gets ready to attend, it usually
goes something like this in calling for a
reservation... desk clerk, “you want to make a
reservation for a room? We’ve only got a
couple of rooms left, seems they’ve all been
taken by a “gang” of motorcyclists, do you still
want the room? (There’s a long silence), oh it’s
OK, they’re doctors”.
We generally meet once a year in June in
various parts of the country for a medical/
motorcycling seminar. We’ve met all over.
Some that come to mind... Lake George, N.Y.,

By the time you read this, it will
already be August. There are still a
few months to do some tax planning,
so take advantage of the time left in
2014 to apply some tax benefits to
your particular situation.
When someone receives an IRS
notice, the first reaction is usually
panic. Panic can cause one to over
react and/or to react without
thinking. Neither will produce the
best results. Over the last week or
two, I have heard that once again
someone is posing as an IRS agent
and convincing people to open their
wallets or provide personal
information. The scammers have
gone so far as to try to convince someone that they will go straight to jail
if they do not pay a specified amount right at that moment. Remember
the IRS will not send you an email or call you if you are “in trouble”
with them. You will receive several notices, each a bit more direct. If
you receive a notice that you do not understand or are not sure about, be
sure to contact the CPA that prepared that particular tax document. Now
there are also those taxpayers that decide to ignore the notice. This is
also not advisable. Neither the IRS nor the FL (or any state) Department
of Revenue will ignore an outstanding balance or missing tax document
just because the taxpayer has decided not to respond, you only lessen
your chance of a reasonable outcome.
The other day, the IRS announced the adoption of a “Taxpayer Bill of
Rights” that will provide taxpayers with a better understanding of their
rights.

Did We Win the War on Poverty?
Back in 1964, then President Lyndon
Johnson, initiated a government program
and called it a “War on Poverty”. Since
that time, up until today, we have spent
approximately $16 trillion in pursuit of
eliminating poverty in the United States.
Has it been worth it or was it just
another liberal feel-good social program
that has failed miserably?
Well, let’s look at what has happened
in the 50 years since it’s inception. The
poverty rate in 1964 was approximately
14%, and in 2013 the poverty rate was
approximately14.3% (practically no
change). Shouldn’t we have expected a
substantial reduction in poverty after
spending approximately $16 trillion?
The major provisions of the “War on Poverty” were Medicare,
Medicaid, Elementary and Secondary Education, and Head Start. It also
included the now defunct Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO).
Critics of this poverty agenda have called the results of this program a
liberal “feel-good social engineering program” whose major
accomplishment was in wasting taxpayer money under the guise of
helping the poor. Good intentions don’t always result in good policy.
The main thrust of the “War on Poverty” was to help the poor and
minorities get out from under the pangs of poverty by using federal tax
dollars to give “handouts” to the poor, and subsidies for housing, in
hopes of bringing many of the poor out of the cycle of poverty. One of
it’s major failures was the unintended consequences of unwed mother
births which in the 1960’s (before the “War on Poverty”) was around
6%, but since has increased to about 40% (the black unwed mother
birthrate is approximately 70%). Critics claim that the provisions of the
“War on Poverty” (that encouraged benefits to be paid only when there
was no father in the house) were directly responsible for the breakup of
families, especially in the black and minority communities. In some
cases, three generations of a families have relied on government
largesse, which has kept them just as poor and reliant of the government
as they were before. The result is more poverty and a resulting increase
in crime, with no relief in sight.
Both Medicare and Medicaid, both well-meaning and well-intentioned
programs, are slowly going broke (the
government paying out more than it is
taking in), since the government can
raise taxes on the citizens, the
inevitable result is a constant increase
in poverty payouts and a constant
increase in taxes to pay for it.
Since Obama took office, federal
welfare spending has increased by
41%, to more than $193 billion per
year. Clearly, we are doing something
wrong. Throwing money at the
problem has neither reduced poverty,
nor made the poor self-sufficient. Is it
time to re-evaluate our approach in
fighting poverty? Is the answer more
government involvement? As Ronald
Reagan once said, ‘The ten most
damaging words in the English
To Join or for more information call 954-448-2121
language are, I’m from the government, and I’m here to help” sort of
sums up the consequences of the “War on Poverty”.
Remember what Albert Einstein said was the definition of insanity “doing the same thing over again and expecting different results”. The
paying out of approximately $16
trillion ($13 trillion federal, $3
trillion state) over the past 50 years
should have resulted in a reduction of
poverty, but it hasn’t happened. Why
should we keep spending our tax
money on failed programs? It is like
throwing money down a rat hole.
So the answer to our headline
question is NO, we have not won the
“War on Poverty”, and we need to reevaluate what we have done and
change it so we can get more bang
for our buck (federal dollars). The
unintended consequences of liberal
feel-good programs is on display for
all to see. Chuck

S o c i a l I s s u e s a r e G o d ’s I s s u e s !
David DiCrescenzo (Editor: www.thepatriotspress.com)
I am deeply troubled lately by a
subject of grave concern to America.
The problem has been brewing for a
long time and not nearly enough
people really grasp it.
I don’t think any clear thinking
person would disagree that America
has a problem with leadership at all
levels of government; and despite
what many think, it’s not really a
party issue. The lack of leadership,
and specifically the lack of leadership
by God fearing men and women has
brought us to our knees and we are
facing judgment for it; yes the kind of
judgment that comes from above. If
anyone doubts this, I would suggest they read ‘The Harbinger’ by
Jonathan Cahn.
Before anyone scoffs at that, look at what we’ve done and become.
Since the early sixties when the culture started working on our youth by
removing prayer from schools, we have been removing the name and
mention of God from all public venues. We have turned our backs on
our roots and the very real place God held in our founding; we have
forgotten that there was a time when our children were taught to read via
the Bible; that so many of our ‘figures of speech’ are squarely rooted in
Scripture. In the name of ‘tolerance’ we have allowed good things to be
called bad, and vice versa. Over 50 million babies have been destroyed,
sexual depravity and immorality, as well as corruption at every level of
government is rampant.
Every election cycle brings out the rising empty suits, the new or
repackaged darlings of the elites in both parties, who dance around the
real issues, spew the same broken promises to rebuild, be stronger, and
try to sell us the lie that
we can rely upon this or
that party’s weak answers
to our problems. As a
culture, we refuse to
recognize the real problem
is that we’ve allowed
special interests to
completely erode our
foundation, and as a
result, we refuse to
demand God honoring,
God fearing leaders that
will embrace the ‘social
issues’ that should be foremost in our thoughts. You can bet that the
‘social issues’ of abortion, same sex marriage, the sexualization of our
children, drug and alcohol abuse, the rise in the occult, and a whole host
of other ‘social issues’ are foremost on God’s mind, and that’s why I
believe, nay, I know, we are being judged.
An analogy I often use when discussing this is the repair of a building.
When it gets damaged, it must be fixed with the same materials it was
built with. You don’t fix steel and concrete with anything less than steel
and concrete. Our nation was built on a Godly foundation, and must be
restored in the same fashion.
Without a doubt, throughout history there have always been devious
men and women that have committed heinous acts. However, as a
culture, we have been steadily returning to ways that have wrought the
very judgment I mentioned above many times in the past. Examples
include in the days leading up to the time of Noah, mankind had become
completely corrupted and debased in every way imaginable. There was
demon and idol worship, sexual depravity of every kind, murder, rape,
and so much more; and mankind incurred God’s wrath. Only a handful
of centuries later, mankind had once again become totally depraved and
LUFQ
corrupted in the cities of
Sodom and Gomorrah,
and once again God
brought down His wrath
and destroyed those
cities and everyone
within.
I mention this because
we have not learned
from those examples or
any others, and maybe
in His planning, we
aren’t meant to. I don’t
know. However, if we
are ever to regain the
favor of God that our
nation once enjoyed, we must find and elect men and woman who are
not afraid to boldly proclaim faith in Him, and be willing to lay out and
set in motion a plan that reverses the set-backs on our ‘social issues.’
As a nation and as a culture, we must have leaders that will lead us in a
much needed revival. If we don’t, we will continue to face judgment
after judgment until we become merely a footnote in whatever history
is left. What good is winning elections if we lose the favor of our
King?
For quite a while, my friend, Wild Bill for America, has been ending
his excellent daily videos which tackle every social issue we face with
the message, “America, bless God again.”
I couldn’t agree with him more, and it’s
time we as a nation elected some leaders
who will do just that.
Respectfully,

HERE ARE TWO GOOD PIECES OF INFO
Warm It Up Before You Ride Off
Submitted by: <[email protected]>
Very Clever Hotel / Motel Scam - Don’t Get Taken
You arrive at your hotel and check in at the front desk. Typically
when checking in, you give the front desk your credit card. You go
to your room and settle in. All is good.
The hotel receives a call and the caller asks for (as an example)
room 620 - which could happen to be your room.
The phone rings in your room. You answer and the person on the
other end says the following: “This is the front desk. When
checking in, we came across a problem with your charge card
information. Please re-read me your credit card number and verify
the last 3 digit numbers at the reverse side of your charge card.”
Not thinking anything wrong, since the call seems to come from
the front desk you oblige. But actually, it is a scam by someone
calling from outside the hotel. They have asked for a random room
number, then ask you for your credit card and address information.
They sound so professional, that you think you are talking to the
front desk.
If you ever encounter this scenario on your travels, tell the caller
that you will be down to the front desk to clear up any problems.
Then, go to the front desk or call directly and ask if there was a
problem. If there was none, inform the manager of the hotel that
someone tried to scam you of your credit card information, acting
like a front desk employee. Don’t get taken like the guy who
emailed me this.
Warming up before you exercise makes it easier and less stressful
on your body. Warming up your bike before you take off does the
same for the machine. Here’s why...
Except for the V-Rod, Harley’s engines are air-cooled. Air-cooled
engines operate over a wider temperature range than liquid-cooled
power plants. That means things inside an air-cooled engine will
expand as they warm up and contract when they cool down. Because
the metals in the engine are dissimilar, they have different expansion
and contraction characteristics. That’s why it’s so important to use a
high-quality multi-viscosity lubricant. It’s more important, in fact,
than the quality of oil you use in your water-cooled automobile.
Putting stress on a warmed-up engine seldom causes problems
unless, of course, you overdo it. However, stressing a cold engine
can and often does create problems. No, the stresses don’t cause
immediate problems, but they can over time.
So why aren’t all Harley engines liquid-cooled? Two simple
words: complexity and weight; a lot of complexity and a lot of
weight. Create a liquid-cooled engine and you’ll need a radiator,
water jacket, water pump and expansion tank, to name just a few
major components.
We’re confident that the problems of weight and complexity will
be overcome in time. However, for now we would strongly urge you
to let your bike idle for just a few minutes before you twist the grip
and let out the clutch, even if you have a liquid-cooled bike.

The terror big leagues:
Islamic State now has an army
by Allen West (July 25, 2014)
Read more at http://allenbwest.com
Remember when President Obama referred to certain terrorist groups as
“JV” (Junior Varsity) and said just because you put on the Lakers
uniform it doesn’t make you Kobe Bryant?
Well, one of those “JV” teams just went pro. As reported by CNS News,
“A State Department official who just returned from a seven-week trip
to Iraq said the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS or ISIL or just IS) is
no longer just a terrorist group.
“ISIL is no longer simply a terrorist organization,” Brett McGurk,
deputy assistant secretary for Iraq and Iran at the U.S. Department of
State, said at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on
Wednesday. “It is now a full-blown army seeking to establish a selfgoverning state through the Tigris and Euphrates Valley in what is now
Syria and Iraq.”
I know, I should just chill out because as President Obama jets around,
he has all of this under control — tell that to the Christians who were
just driven out of Mosul, a city where, for the first time in history, no
Christians live thanks to the Islamic State.
And could it be this caught the Obama administration by surprise?
Shouldn’t have, especially since Rep. Ed Royce (R-Calif.), chairman of
the committee, said the Obama administration testified six months ago
before the same committee about the threat posed by ISIS — but no
action was taken to thwart its advance.
“Never has a terrorist organization possessed the heavy weaponry, cash
and personnel that ISIS does today – which includes thousands of
western passport holders,” Royce said. ISIS recently acquired several
medium caliber howitzers, 155mm, of American make that had been in
the custody of the Iraqi Army.
In his opening remarks, according to CNS News, “McGurk said ISIS or
ISIL is “worse than al-Qaida” and a threat to the United States. “ISIL is
al-Qaida,” McGurk said, adding that this is the case even if it changed
its name or leadership. “But it is al-Qaida in its doctrine, ambition and
increasingly in its threat to U.S. interests. “In fact, it is worse than alQaida,” McGurk said. “The situation in Iraq remains extremely serious,”
McGurk said in the conclusion of his prepared remarks. “While our
immediate crisis
response may have
blunted the initial
security crisis, ISIL
represents a growing
threat to U.S.
interests in the
region, local
populations, and the
homeland.”
So just two years
after we were told,
“Osama bin Laden is
LUFQ
dead, al-Qaida is decimated and on the run”, we have a burgeoning
Islamic terrorist state, with its own army. And I would submit that this is
no different than Hamas and Hezbollah.
What has
happened is that
without Osama
bin Laden, there
has indeed been
an Islamic
caliphate
established — in
the open, not in
the shadows.
And that’s what
gives ISIS such
strength and
credibility in the
jihadist Islamic world. It has a financial base and growing financial and
moral support from Qatar — whom we allow to broadcast Al Jazeera in
America — and Turkey. And it is an enemy which grows more
entrenched and stronger as days and month pass by.
I believe the next major terrorist attack against the West is being planned
as we speak. I am very concerned about the number of western passport
holders who are part of ISIS. What causes me grave concern is that we
have a porous border and the transnational criminal organizations —
drug cartels — have signaled their willingness to align with anyone who
will pay them. The ingredients of a very dangerous hemlock are being
mixed and eventually the elixir will be forced down our throats. The sad
thing is we are voluntarily
allowing it to be prepared,
and it may just be too late to
prevent it from being
involuntarily administered
in the not too distant future.
This cannot be dismissed.

Good News
On Special Assignment
by Chef Joel - [email protected]

Haven’t had a chance to get out much
lately so I thought I would share
something from the heart. Just don’t be so
focused on self that you overlook those
that God has placed in your life. Take the
time to listen & love. Listen to His
direction and for His will and listen to
that person He has placed in your life.
Love the Lord with a whole heart and
love those that He has placed there to
impact your life as well as you to touch
theirs.
Whether you believe in Jesus Christ or
not the bible has something for all to
learn! We all look for the big events and
memorable moments in our lives; but
Jesus took a towel and washed the disciple’s feet. John 13:3-6 “ Jesus,
knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had
come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His
garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into
a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the
towel with which He was girded.”
Remember this is the same man that made the blind see, the lame walk,
the dead rise, the seas calm and many more miraculous moments; all
witnessed by the disciples.
John 13:12-17 “So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments,
and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to
you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I
then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash
one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I
have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than
his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know
these things, blessed are you if you do them.”
Though this seems to be of little significance it is actually one of those
memorable moments, especially for the disciples and for those that read the
scriptures. In those days they walked every where they went, on dusty roads
with sandals on their feet. To think that the Son of God was going to wash
their dirty, stinking feet was unimaginable! Peter even voiced his opinion to
Jesus... John 13:6-8 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him,
“Lord, are You washing my feet?” Jesus answered and said to him, “What I
am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.” Peter
said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do
not wash you, you have no part with Me.”
Jesus Christ the King of Kings, Lord of Lords and Savior of the world
came not as a haughty over lord but as a humble servant to teach and to
show us the love and compassion that He has for His creation. The Apostle
Paul wrote in Philippians 2:3-8 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain
conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you
should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very
nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but
made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in
human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled
Himself and became obedient to death — even death on a cross!” In today’s
society that is all about me, me, me and all of the self help books; it is not a
popular teaching but it is one that holds much value. Do not be self centered
rather be other centered. Just as Jesus said in the above verse...”If you know
these things, blessed are you if you do them.”
Remember Jesus died for bikers too! If we at Calvary Chapel MM can be
of any service e-mail me or call me at 954-448-1235 or call Billy at 305790-9484.
Riding free in South Florida, Doug.
Ok... 2 months of this
crazy heat down and
only 2 more to go? Is
it me or has it been
African Congo hot
here lately? It makes it
seem like you are
riding with a moist hot
hair dryer blowing in
your face. The rain
cools it off some, but
as soon as the sun
comes out you can
steam clams in your
helmet. But so far so good, we hope to stay lucky this season regarding the
“H” word (don’t say it). But as we all know already, from the end of Aug.
thru Oct. is when we need to say our prayers to the storm gods.
Here locally as a lot of you may already know, we lost another good
friend, brother, Dad, husbandyou name it. I am speaking of
Bill
Bill Snedden aka “Rockey” of
BBRA. He lost his battle with
cancer this week at home with
his family and loved ones at
his side. I truly am sorry for
not being there, but as in the
past with my brother Paul and
good friend Richie, also “Big
Jeff”... I do not do bedside
good-by’s well. He fought
valiantly this last year and
literally went out with his
loving wife Shelly and
knocked off a bunch of checks
from his “bucket list” as he
told me. I was honored to be
there for a few of them. #1
was his wedding to Shelly and
in close 2nd was having a
blast with him, Captain and
Hat Trick and our crew at
Roscoes’ Chili Challenge.
Memories that will last a
lifetime. He sure did leave an
impression and image of pride and honor in his lifetime and hopefully he has
a never ending gas tank for the ride he is on now. RIP and Godspeed to you
brother, you are missed already.
Let’s get back to happier times here locally now. For those of you and
myself that got out and about in the heat for events the last few weeks, you
all deserve some special mention here. And for those that worked and helped
out at them- you Rock! One of those events special to my heart was the
‘Rockin & Barking 4 Abandoned Dogs Benefit” out in Ft Lauderdale at the
American Legion. No doubt it was in the triple digits for temps there, and
despite that they had a pretty good turnout. The music was provided by
“Flyin’Blind” and they did a great job in that heat. Also the volunteers from
“Chain of Love” Abandoned Animals Rescue were amazing in providing
care for both people and the poocheswith the heat again. This was a good
time for a great cause and as a lot of you are reading this right now- they
might also attending my 7th WOTR Anniversity Party at Wetz Pub. Do the
right thing and kick in a few bucks and maybe even take a pooch home with
ya!! Thanks to all that support them. Like I always say - I like animals better
than most people. Also a big THANK YOU to all that attended my party at
Wetz Pub in Sunrise. I truly do appreciate the support over the years.

Alright, so from there we rolled on over to Gabe party. He’s the “Attorney
that Rides”. He had a send-off party for himself and a few other riders that
are doing the “Hoka-Hey Challenge” from Key West to Homer, Alaska. As I
write this right
now those
maniacs are just
rolling into
Canada via
Washington
state today they left on Sun.
July 20th at
6:30am, and the
lead riders are
up to the Canada
border today (or
last night) Fri.
July 25th. Dude,
that is some
friggin ridin’.
They cannot
stay in hotels;
they literally
have to sleep on
or alongside
their bikes and
can use no GPS
to assist the ride.
Chef Joel ducking for cover
They need to follow a predetermined route and go by
established check points. I have
been watching them ride on the
HHC site. They have a GPS fleet
tracking thing on each bike and no
joke, some of these guys were
rolling during the middle of the
night through the Rockies and
other crazy places. Well, like I
said earlier - Gabe threw himself
and the other riders (along with
us) a good party. The “Hired
Gunz” Band banged out the tunes
for the day and sounded great. We
had our own mini re-union of
LUFQ
WOTR writers in the bar
area for some good laughs
and photo opps (nice pic
above). Along with good
times and good laughs, as
always Gabe had some
great giveaways and door
prizes.
Outside, a
bunch of us
were
“Wacking a
Jap” bike with
a sledge
hammer.
Many more
good photo opps there to my friends. To Gabe and all of the
other riders - Ride Safe and prayers to you all for a safe ride
there and home. (MM just heard Gabe is on his 2nd back tire.
The gravel roads are horrible... and his paint doesn’t look so
great either... but he’s still moving)
Another one of those friggin hot African Sundays had us all
out at Café 27 to see our good friends from “Southern Rock
Society”. Despite the stifling heat there was a good turnout from
the loyal friends of the “Society”. Wolfgang and Larry and the
guys are always a
pleasure to see
and never cease
to put some
“South in your
mouth” and ears.
Be sure to stay up on their
website as to where they will
be next at
southernrocksociety.com.
Wolfgang said they will be
out and about here in the area
so stay tuned.
From there we took the
usual ride over to Flossies’ to
the warm up party for the
upcoming “Summer Bike
Fest”. As always Pam, Laurie and the staff put on a hell of a party. And to
make it even better - they got Jimi and “Riverdown” to knock the socks off
the crowd. Jimi and the band always get the crowd rocking no matter where

they play, and hats off to “Chef Hec” for a hell of
a spread inside. I owe an apology to Pam,
Laurie and Security Bob along with those that
had to see an ummm... ugly moment... but
an asshole is an asshole and had to be dealt
with as such. Thank you to those that
understood and were supporting.
Now, to the good stuff. This being
August and also since I am still living
here, it’s “Brass Ball’s Birthday Bash”
time at my house once again. Yupp...
come one, come all (except the asshole)
It’s Sat. Aug 30th at my house from 6pm
on. For those that have been there in the
past - let your friends know. We will have
“The Painkillers” rocking the house until the
cops kick em’ out or pull the plug. But for
those that
Jimi Robinette (spelled right this time? have been here
before come on back and celebrate like we
know best. Of course there will be
some pretty good grub as always.
This is a “just bring what your
drinking” and maybe “kick in a few
bucks” for the band party. If you
need any info just e-mail me or stop
me or my friends and ask for details.
That’s all for now, stay dry and
remember... “HYDRATE”... in this
heat and as always, “Take Care and
Ride Safe”! Chef Joel

Forge, Tenn.; Lake Dillon,

Pa.; Morgantown, W. Va.;
Waynesboro, Va. (Blue Ridge
Pky.); Flagstaff, Az.; Natural
Bridge, Va.; Nashville,Tenn.;
Nashville, In.; French Lick,
In.; Kansas City, Kn. And
many more. When we were in
Kansas at the Harley
Davidson plant, the folks
there treated us like royalty.
That was back in 2002 when
they were releasing the then
new “V-Rod” model. We
were the first of the public to
view it and its manufacture.
They even fed us lunch! The
location is pretty much
dependent on a Doc. who
wants to take on this
“herculean” task of hosting
the meeting. I’ve done this
three times. Twice in Lake
Placid, N.Y. and once in the
Florida Keys. Some other
Doc’s have hosted multiple
meetings also. These meetings
are structured around a
business/seminar. These
seminars can run the gambit
from medical/scientific to
new motorcycles and
accessories. They are
presented by doctors, some
being our own members.
Other professionals and folks
from motorcycle
manufactures and related
organizations. People like
Willie G. Davidson, (could
you get anyone better than
that), Rodger Hull, Ed
Youngblood, a past president
of the A.M.A., and current
A.M.A. president, Rob
Dingman and many other
illustrious folks have graced
our meetings. Later that day
after these presentations or
the following day, a couple of
interesting rides take place.
Local community roads are
explored, followed by a
hearty lunch and a vigorous
“jam”
session.
The
conference
culminates
in a
semi/
formal
banquet.
This
usually
covers a 3-4 day period.
For many doctors this event
LUFQ
provides their only opportunity to escape an
overcrowded schedule, socialize in a low-stress
environment, hang out with
friends who share common
interests and avoid talking
“shop” all weekend, imbibe in
a little high octane fire water
and enjoy a few fine cigars.
Rally participants go out of
their way to put the best
possible face on bikes and
bikers and feel we’re a credit
to motorcycling, while
helping the “image”.
One “hot button” to press is the notion that we bikers,
(that’s all of us in a “certain” age bracket) are just a
bunch of “baby boomers” going through a collective
“mid life crisis”. Most of us have been riding for many,
many years, (me, over 65years). We all ride for fun,
(some for work) and to escape stress of our jobs.
I’ll end with these thoughts and advice. How many
times has some do-gooder warned you against your
motorcycle in the interest of your health? Do you
politely stand there while someone regales you with
horror stories of someone who went down two days
after he bought his bike? I used to inform them that
since facts indicate that most people die in their own
beds, to avoid that horrible fate, it would be best to
begin sleeping on the floor!! Now I no longer go headto-head with sufferers of motor-phobia. I just tell them
“The South Florida Biker’s Bible Since 1999 - Pray for Dave!!!
14 Years - August 2014 • Issue #178 • Page 34
that from a doctor’s point of view, motorcycling is
condusive to a long and healthy life. Along with my life
experiences, not to long ago I came upon interesting
philosophical concepts in a bike magazine. The article is
entitled, “One More Reason To Bike: It’s Good For Your
Health!” This article has the hard facts on things that you
and I always suspected to be true, but until now, had no
way of proving. The scientific investigation began when
the good folks at Motorcycle Consumer News set out to
find Britain’s oldest biker. To the delight of the MCN
research team, they found that every single aging rider
credited motorcycling to his or her key to longevity and
health. MCN enlisted the help of students of “King’s
College of London University Hospital” to research why
those riders love motorcycling so much. Here is what they
found...
The Brain: Biking is joyous and is therefore a natural
antidepressant. The brain responds to thrilling sensations
of balance combined with forward motion by producing
endorphins that prevent depression. Since depression leads
to illness, biking is an antidote to disease through
prevention of melancholia.
The Lungs: Buses, trains, and especially airplanes are
confining metal tubes in which passengers are forced to
breathe virus-saturated second-hand air making for an
unsafe travel environment. Bikes on the other hand, put
you in the wind, a known purifier of air that is conducive
to health by sending fresh oxygen to the lungs.
The Heart: The next time some self-styled saint tries to
get you safely buckled into some overbuilt SUV, ask him
what he thinks the effect of traffic jams and road rage have
on the heart. Highway related anxiety causes a release in
hormones that actually increase blood pressure, leading to
dangerous levels of stress. Gridlock causes tension, but
lanesplitting brings on euphoria.
Circulation: The frequent changes in body temperature
experienced by motorcyclists stimulate blood circulation,
which protects against circulatory problems such as
varicose veins and hardening of the arteries. Sitting in
some cushy luxury car all day in a rush hour commute is
an excellent way to shut down circulation in the
extremities, a known cause of blood clots. Remember that
ambulances and hearses are also highly-equipped luxury
vehicles.
The Back: The leaning, twisting, and turning that a biker
does is downright good exercise that keeps the spine
limber. Padded car seats on the other hand are terrible for
the back.
Burning of Fat: The excitement of the ride, which puts
the senses on high alert, actually burns calories. The more
extreme the ride, the better the results will be (as long as
you ride within your limits) OK, some riders like me are
overweight, but hey, if it were not for my bike, I probably
would not pass the Greyhound bus driver’s minimal fitness
exam!
Leg Muscles: The study concluded that jockeying a hefty
motorcycle into a narrow parking spot is the
equivalent of
Deception
a five minute work out on a rowing machine.
Not satisfied with the results of their research, the
intrepid MCN team went on to explore the mammoth
British Medical Library. They found a university thesis
entitled “Motorcycle and Adolescents” by a French rider
who became the psychiatrist J P Rabeau, (world
renowned). Regarding the
young riders, this is how the
good doctor of the mind
wrapped his research, “Their
bikes’ physical nature is often
beneficial, rather than a
dangerous expression of an
unconscious death wish in the
Freudian sense”.
So there you have the
MEDICAL basis for riding!!
Don’t forget to ride your
motorcycle at least one hour a day, its good for your HEALTH!!
Our next meeting will be June 15-18, 2015 in Door County/Egg Harbor
Wisconsin,(4929 Landmark Drive, Egg Harbor, Wisconsin 54209; 1-800-273-7897, (a
little N of Greenbay in the in the upper “finger” of Wisconsin).

energy kick-ass six piece band
that is BAD ASS!! And that’s
just what every person I know
that sees them says... “This band
is BAD ASS!” ECLIPSE is very
well known in Miami Dade and
are starting to play the Broward
county circuit. When a band can
get just about every person on the dance floor and keep them there for three
or four sets “They are BAD ASS!” ECLIPSE was formed in 2008 with
Tony Taylor - Lead Guitar, Lead and Backup Vocals. Tony was born in
Vancouver, Canada. While studying in
Miami, he played in numerous bands in
the mid-80’s, including Shaker and
Obsession. During this time period, Tony
and the bands in which he played were
instrumental in the emerging pulse of the
Miami club scene. Moving to New York
in the early nineties, Tony co-founded
the New York based Lifehouse, with
whom he released the album “Fuse” and
toured nationally and throughout Europe.
After settling in California in the late
90’s, Tony continued performing in a
variety of bands among the assortment of
clubs found throughout the West Coast
before returning to Florida in 2004. Upon
returning to Miami, Tony contributed to
the success of the Catdaddies as a
guitarist and vocalist. Later, he
performed beside the legendary guitar
player Gonzo Gutsens in The Secret.
Shortly after, Tony co-founded and performed with The Taylor Strong
Band before joining forces with The Eclipse Band in 2008. Tony Taylor
brings a unique dynamic and professionalism to the show as he contributes
to lead and backing vocals as well as his soulful ability as the lead guitarist.
Mark McGreevy - Bass and Backup Vocals. Mark has been playing Bass
since the age of 14 and has proven to be a solid foundation for the very
energetic sound of Eclipse. Since the 1980’s Mark has been on the local
music scene, playing in such bands as Shaker, The Toys, Electric Lover
and The Secret. Mark also recorded and toured with signed acts such as
Freedom Cage under Z-Records label out of Liverpool England and
opening up for acts such as Quiet Riot and Mr. Big. Mark’s versatile
playing style has become a perfect compliment to Eclipse. Robert Byrne Keyboard, Guitar, Lead and Backup Vocals. Robert was born in Mt.
Vernon, N.Y. and moved to Florida with his family during the turbulent late
60’s. While America’s involvement in Vietnam was in question andwe were
putting a man on the moon, the youth was in rebellion and soaking up the
sun and free love of the day. Like many children of that era, Rob was
heavily influenced by bands such as “The Beatles” and “The Stones”, who
wrote their anthems. Rob’s musical training began at age 10, and continued
through his school years, playing in Jazz Band and Orchestra as well as
other ensembles. Though rooted in Classical Music, he was still heavily
influenced by Rock-n-Roll, and found an outlet for this in his first band,
Impact. He continued to play the club circuit with bands such as
“Wolfgang”, the country band “Southern Guns” and “Mystic Blue”
before joining Eclipse. Robert now teaches music at the Kendall
Conservatory of Music. When asked what are his future goals when not
playing, Rob states, “I’d like to continue teaching and maybe own a music
store one day. I’d also like to spend more time in the studio, and record and
LUFQ
produce others as well. Kevin Alfinez - Lead Vocals Kevin was born in New
York. He moved to Miami, Fl. in 1978 with his family. He began drumming
at the ripe age of nine when his father, also an accomplished singer/drummer
in bands throughout New York City, introduced him to the world of music.
Kevin began playing in various garage bands throughout his junior high and
high school years while also performing in marching and concert bands. He
also competed in State competitions and received superior ratings for his
drumming techniques. Barely out of high school, Kevin began touring,
playing Rock and Roll on the A Club circuit, while also recording in the
studio. You could say that this helped him develop a wild & crazy character
while putting on the best live performance night after night. In 1992 he
landed himself a sweet gig playing with RCA/Epic and Sony recording artist
Stevie B. In the 20 years he has been in the music industry Kevin has
brought power, musicianship, and vocal ability to all the bands he has been a
part of, and puts on a great show while also bringing out the best in his band
mates. When asked what are Kevin’s goals in life he states, “To be the best
Husband, Father and Musician he can possibly be, because without family,
friends and a strong woman to be your foundation, everything else is
meaningless. Papo Vargas - Timbales & Percussion. Papo was born in San
Turce Puerto Rico Papo started playing at the age of 11. Already living in
New York City he started playing with various Latin bands at the age of 17.
Performing in various Latin bars during the era of the Fania Allstars he
started performing with some of Latin
music’s biggest names (Hector Lavoe
being one of them). In 2006 he moved
to Miami after 46 years in New York.
He met Kevin Alfinez at a pool party
and was invited to come play with
Eclipse and the rest as they say is
History. George Berkowitz - Drums &
Vocals. George was born in Havana
Cuba, and in the early 70’s his family
moved to the Bronx in New York, and
eventually made their way to Miami
(the 6th borough) in 1977. The Latin
and Cuban culture was always strong in
his life. He comes from a line of
performers and has always been
surrounded by music. His grandmother
was a mezzo soprano, her brother
played trumpet his uncle was a
percussionist and his mother was a
dancer. He remains grateful to his
family for not letting him forget his roots which is something fairly easy to
do when you’re young and starting over in a new country. As a young
teenager he entered a talent show and from that moment, he was hooked.
George says his parents did him the greatest favor by giving him a Zepp 4
(8-track). That was when his ears awoke to Mr. John Henry Bonham
(Bonzo). George played that album so much that it broke, and had to keep it
together with Duct tape! Throughout George’s career he collaborated on
many different projects and has had the good fortune to share the stage with
many local, national and international musicians. George moved to Boston
in 1989 to explore the music scene, and spent a lot of time at Berklee
College of Music. Talk about hitting the mother load of influences! His
Boston experience was a highlight of both his personal and musical life. It
was a humbling and inspirational period in his life. In 1994, having had
enough of those Boston winters, George returned to Miami and immediately
pursued the local stages. This was a time when live music venues ruled, and
the DJ’s job was just to keep the crowd entertained while the band took a
break. That same year, George joined a local band called El Duende (Latin
rock) signed to ‘Cane Records label out of University of Miami. This gave
him opportunity to expand on his Afro-Cuban and Afro-Caribbean chops
and challenged him to maintain the aggressive energy of rock n roll. With El
Duende, George had the incredible opportunity to record at Criteria Studios
in North Miami. These days, George plays with the band Eclipse, and he
says that it feels like his good fortune in getting to make great music with
talented musicians in the local music scene is far from running out. If you
get a chance to see ECLIPSE go check them out and I guarantee the words
that come out of your mouth will be “This band is BAD ASS!”
On July 13th Cagney’s Saloon held their 5th Anniversary Redemption
party and the redemption was golden with a beautiful sunny day with blue

sky’s all day. The bands rocked the house outside and inside from 2:00pm to
close with 5 bands outside Cougars In Training, Silent Addictions, The
Grizzlies, CRuSH and Mr. Nice Guy and inside Rough Shot and Sucker
Punch. Cagney’s had it going on from great food by their new chef
“George” assisted by Jeanette Menno Saunders Brown and Mike Tuchek.
To a great bike display by Downtown Baggers who are now selling raffle
tickets for just $10 each for a 2006 Sportster and all proceeds going to Joe
DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital. The vendors were everywhere selling
fabulous items that you can only get at a event like this and most are
handmade. There were fun and games with a dunk tank, raffles for charity
for Cagney’s Children’s Charity Bike Drive for Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s
Hospital. And yes we even did the A1 Promotions Frozen T Shirt Contest! It
was great to see so many friends I have not seen in a while and it was great
to make some new friends. To Mark and Nancy, co-owners of Cagney’s,
congratulations on your 5th Year Anniversary of Cagney’s House Of
Rock... one of the best bars in South Florida!
Look out for FIRE DOG SALOON, the only Country/Southern Rock Bar
on the east side of Fort Lauderdale. Owners Will Yasich and Rob Reul are
both firefighter/paramedics. Will has been a FF/PM for 18 years and is still
active on the job. Rob Reul is a recent retiree after 27 years in the fire
service. The two firefighters have served the community together in Margate
for over 18 years. As friends & co-owners of Fire Dog Saloon, Will & Rob
intend to bring a fun & safe environment for all to enjoy. This venue is
amazing. Their is entertainment 7 days a week from DJ’s to great line
dancing classes on a huge dance floor with Lisa Spangler to LIVE Country/
Southern Rock Bands on Friday nights. They have drink specials with
delicious food 7 days a
week. It is nonsmoking with a
smoking area outside.
There is bike parking
out front and also out
back. See their ad on
page 36.
A new venue I hit in
July was Kelly
Brothers Irish Pub
located on the corner
of Oakland Park and
US1 in the plaza where the Culture Room is. The bar has been around since
1960 in a two story building and has changed names a few time. Now under
a new name and under new ownership by two owners Peter and Paul Kelly.
Two Brothers who took over the bar in November 2013. When you walk in
to the bar you will think you are upside down! Just about everything that you
can think of that is on a floor is on the ceiling. You can spend hours looking
at everything. The bar has always been on one floor and that’s how all the
other owners have kept it! Until now. The bar is
under remodeling up-stairs with a another new
bar, pool tables, darts and a more for parties and
larger events. They have an acoustic open jam
on Wednesday night and other daily
entertainment.
On Saturday July 26th I went to Eldad Kira’s
birthday bash at Cheers in Fort Lauderdale.
Eldad’s band SLEJJ who is a great party band
had the place rock’n. It was like a who’s who
night. I ran into so many friends and musicians I
have not seen in one place at the same time in
like for ever! Truly a great night and a great
band! Happy birthday again to Eldad.

Woo’s View’s
Best Friends Over the Rainbow Bridge
[email protected]
Hi Gang,
Well here we are again. I got an email from
Miami Mike about a couple of Presa Canario’s
who mauled a man to death. I believe it
completely! I think I even wrote in an article a
while back that I had a chance to get one from a
friend of mine but turned it down because Pressa’s
are one of the few dog’s that I’m afraid of. You
never know when one of them will wig out on you
and hurt or kill you. Any BIG, powerful dog has
that ability, but not many have that mind set.
I own (or do they own me??) two of the most dangerous dog breeds
there are. I have a female Dogo Argentino,107 lbs, and a Turkish Kangal
pup who’s 4 months old and 60 lbs already! When he’s grown, he’ll be
anywhere from 135-160 lbs. In Turkey, Kangals are herd guardian dogs.
It’s their job to protect the herds from any and all predators. These
include wolves, Jackals and Bears! They are fearless, determined and
brutally strong and aggressive. Yet, as long as no threat appears to them,
they are very calm and docile. They are wonderful with children and
small animals. My big girl, Precious, is just that. She’s a wonderful
animal. Sweet, easy going and a love bug, but when she goes off,
OMG!!!!!!! Dogo’s are what is known as “Catch Dogs”. When they hunt
wild boars, they don’t kill them. They just catch the boar and hold him
until the hunter(s) come and kill the boar. The Argentine way is to stab it
in the heart with a knife. They are also a very fierce animal who’s a
loving couch potato with their family of humans. If you ever go to
someone’s house and they have a Dogo and small children there, if you
love yourself, DON’T EVER MESS WITH THE KIDS!!! If you do,
chances are you are going to get mauled. Dogo’s too are VERY
protective of their families!
Getting back to the Pressa’s... I would NEVER LET a dog like that run
loose in a populated area. My Big Girl is never off the leash when we go
outside my fence line. my Kangle, Koco, is still a puppy... a BIG puppy,
but he too is never off leash when we go outside. I LOVE Dogs with all
my heart and I NEVER want to see any of them hurt in any way! If an
unleashed dog was to attack Precious now or Koco when he’s grown, if
I’m by myself I will not try to get between them. I am too old and do not
heal that fast anymore. If the other dog’s owner is there, maybe we will
be able to separate them before my dog kills theirs.
I just love BIG dogs. No macho crap there, I just prefer them. I don’t
want to fight them. I’m totally against Dog Fighting. It’s a lot like
having a gun with a very super light trigger pull. It can get you in a
world of trouble. Having an uncontrolled very large dog is the same
thing. With lots of love and consistent training your big dog can be a
blessing and not a curse! If you ever hear that my dogs killed me, you
can bet it will be by kissing me to death...
One last thing. All I hear the biased news casters whining about is the
“poor Palestine’s”. How the “bully” Israel is killing theose poor people.
How come I never hear about how the low life Arab pieces of walking
crap are dropping hundreds of rockets on the Israelis? How come they
never speak of how they use their women and children and human
shields? Those walking pieces of camel crap have absolutely no value of
human life. Just look at how they treat their own people. Funny, no other
Arab country wants them either. They just use them to stir up crap
Yeah!
against Israel. Then
in Iraq, our crap government is wringing it’s hands
about all the killing going on there. Like it’s a bad thing! Hey A-holes...
wake up and smell the coffee! It’s just Muslims killing Muslims! What
could be better? Better they kill each other than they kill us or our boys!
If you Progressive Liberal scum out there don’t like my opinion, go take
a flying f==k at a rolling doughnut! With that happy note, Have a Great
month.

MC held
their party.
Again, I
found myself
in a packed
house. Door
prizes, Jell-O
shots,
vendors and
music by
four live
cover bands
created yet
another
great party. The drinks were ice cold
and quickly served. Tons of delicious
food was put out and all the bands
kicked some major ass.
The following day (07/13) I went
over to Flossie’s Bar & Grill for a
very sad reason.
Midnight Club Reapers
MC had lost one of their
members in a fatal
motorcycle accident on
I-595 two weeks earlier.
They held a memorial
ride for Ray aka as
“National Enforcer” that
day. About 200 sport
bikes and cruisers
showed up for the ride
which lead from
Flossie’s to Café 27 and
then back their
clubhouse. I had met
Ray on several
occasions. He was
awesome guy. My condolences go out his family, friends, his brothers & sisters
at the Club. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
That same afternoon Alternative MC held their 20th Off-Annual at their
clubhouse. A big turnout and cold A/C, plus excellent BBQ made this a good
time. Also, Cagney’s held their redemption party for their 5th Anniversary
bash which got rained out back in April. Normally, this would have been a
must-attend-event for me, especially considering the incredible lineup of bands
however, it coincided with the Soccer World Cup Final between Germany and
Argentina. I knew if I were to go to Cagney’s, I would not get to watch the
match so I decided to watch it at home. Much to my satisfaction my team won
it in overtime which made me a very happy camper. Deutschland, Deutschland

put on two killer

two different shows.
We only had lawn
seats for both nights.
This meant that we
had to be at the

early to make sure
to get the best spots.
We arrived at the
venue about 2 ½
hours prior to the
show. Right when
they opened up the
gates, the sky
opened up as well.
For over an hour it
was raining cats and
dogs. Luckily, the
people of the venue
had a heart for the

were awesome and
we swore that from
now on we will get
our seats there. But as soon as it stopped raining they kicked us out back
to the cheap seats. What followed was a great sunset, the temperature
dropped which made being outside bearable. Luckily, we got to see
Saturday’s show without getting drenched.
On Saturday (07/26) I made a brief appearance at the Chrome Angels
MC’s Summer Bash Party which took place at O’Meara’s Irish Pub in
Margate. I had promised my wife that we would have dinner together.
Therefore, I did not taste any of the yummy food that had been prepared
for the people that had shown up. Shovelhead put out some great tunes
again and everyone enjoyed the party.
The following day (07/27) I rode over to Chester’s Ft. Lauderdale
Harley-Davidson to cover the “Get the kid a dog event”. This was a one
and a half hour ride escorted by the Broward Sheriff’s Office. I just
arrived in time to take some great photos of the bikers riding back into
the dealership. There must have been close to 250 bikes in the
procession. The Broward County Nam Knights MC and Chester’s Ft.

Al’s in Sebring!
By [email protected]
Some months ago I relocated to
Sebring. I was just tired of the
concrete jungle called “South
Florida”. When you come right
down to it I’m just a laid back kind
of a guy. I basically grew up in the
country; I enjoy open roads with a
lack of traffic lights and stop signs,
orange groves, green pastures and
the smell of cow shit.
Once I got up here and situated I
contacted the local ABATE
Chapter and transferred my Life
Membership to the Inerstate
Chapter here in Sebring. It just
happened to be around the same
time the Chapter was getting ready
for the Board of Directors
elections.
Well after attending a few meetings and meeting some members
somehow I was nominated for the “Safety Director” spot! Thinking there
was no way in hell I would be elected I accepted the nomination. When I
told Ella about the nomination, she too thought it was pretty funny that
these fine people would want Me for Safety Director. Well after a few
days, just for the hell of it, I started looking at different websites for
motorcycle safety and I came across this:
Are you an active member, the kind that would be
missed
or are you just content that your name is on the list?
Do you attend the rides and mingle with the flock
or do you stay at home to criticize and knock?
Do you take an active part to help the club along
or are you satisfied to just belong?
Do you push the cause along and make things really tick
or leave the work to just a few and talk about their
clique?
Think this over friend, you know right from wrong
are you an active member or do you just belong?
This made up my mind about taking this a little more serious than I
had been. Made me think; what could I do to repay the “Motorcycle
Community” for all the good times I have had in it? The wheels were
turning...
During the month before the election our Chapter President, Ernie
Gelinas, called
and asked if I
would give
him a hand
with a few
Motorcycle
Safety
Awareness
Programs he
was doing at
the Sebring
High School
and Lake
Placid High
School for
their Driver’s
Education
Classes. I told him I would be more than happy to give him a hand, after
all I had never attended one of these classes myself and I thought it
LUFQ
H
would be interesting.
Our first class was in Sebring. Ernie did a great
presentation for those kids. Most of them seemed
interested but there was a handful who were there
just to take up space, just came to class to sleep.
That was depressing to see these kids who don’t
realize that driving is a privilege with
responsibilities and not a Right. Our next stop
was Lake Placid High School. Another fine
presentation and these kids took a lot more
interest and had a lot more questions, it made
Ernie and I feel as if we accomplished our
mission of awakening the minds of new drivers to
be aware of motorcycles.
The Inerstate
Chapter’s “Birthday
Party” and elections
are held on the same
day and we had rented
out the
Cloverleaf 4H
Club just
outside of Lake
Placid for the
affair. Nice
little place located on one of the many lakes in the area. Our
Chapter Secretary, Pat, cooked up 2 huge Prime Ribs, Swamp
Cabbage, and some other goodies for the party. Before the party
we had Chapter business to take care of. The meeting was called
to order, old and new business was taken care of and the elections
were up.
Needless to say I was shocked when I had found out I had won by
a landslide as Inerstate’s Safety Director!
Hey, all I can do is give it my best shot and see if I can make a
difference. After the elections we all kicked back to one hell of a
killer meal. Prime Rib, Swamp Cabbage... I think I’m going to like this

Ummm... Good Cookin’ with Cookie

My ‘oven way’ to smoke a Brisket.
There are those who will go out of
their way to tell you (loudly) that
you cannot possibly create a great,
smoky brisket in a home oven. They
will extol (also loudly) that you
cannot get the flavor or texture of
smoked brisket without a specialized
smoker or pit. These people will
then usually go on to mock (very
loudly) what has come to be known
as Faux-B-Que as the greatest evil
to ever be foisted upon the world of
Barbecue.
Sadly, in as much as I know and
love some of these people, they are
terribly, horribly wrong. Yes I Love
a smoker better but I am not allowed
to have one were I live and my
smoker is at a good friends house
that is not close by. So here it is...
1 – 4-6 pound beef brisket
1 Tbsp molasses
1 tsp liquid smoke
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 -2 Tbsp chipotle sauce (or the liquid from a can of chipotle peppers in
adobo sauce)
Heat oven to 220
degrees.
Rinse Brisket and
pat dry.
Mix remaining
ingredients in a
medium bowl.
Allow to sit 5
minutes.
Lay brisket fat side
down on a baking
sheet covered with a
large piece of
aluminum foil. Brush liberally with oven smoke marinade. flip brisket
and brush the fat side with the rest of the marinade.
Wrap tightly in foil and bake at 220 degrees for 8-9 hours. YUM! Dee

The month of July was very slow when
it came to racing, in fact I didn’t get out
much because they all have had so much
rain this month. Hopefully mother nature
will slow it down a bit for August and I
will be able to get some fumes in my
lungs. With that being said... I was able
to do some local roaming.
My first stop, the newly owned, named
and renovated ‘Sports Barn’ in Davie for
their rally for the Vets celebration that
included Soulicide providing the kick ass
rock and roll with Michael Giardina
which I haven’t seen in a good while
helping out on lead guitar. It was great to
see him on stage with the guys and I can’t forget the special guest singer
and great guitarist, Lee Tiger, jumping on stage to lay down some good
ol’ rock and roll.
Great food, drink
and music made for
a great day at the
barn. Then it was off
to American legion
Post 180 for the

Bon Voyage Party

Alaska and
wish well on
his venture.
(At press time
he’s in 34th
place out of

he killed an elk
Sunday morn
at 1:24AM.
(He might have
a fractured
ankle) The
beer was flowing and the band, Hired Guns, was jamming... so why not
everybody step outside, lay down a couple of bucks and beat the living
crap out of an import bike. The 5lb sledge hammer tore up the bike - it
was a lot of fun and I tell you what there wasn’t anything left of that
thing at the end of the day!!!
Next up was Flossies for their Summer Bike Fest, with Riverdown
supplying the great rock
and roll as they always
do. The tiki was packed,
the parking lot was full
of bikes and it was hot...
but no rain so that was
good. Southern Bike
Night tv was also there
filming the event. It was
great for everyone... cold
beer, great buffet, kick
ass rock and roll don’t
LUFQ
get much better than that!!!
Finally we headed out in the
boonies to Cafe’ 27 for a
Birthday Celebration for the
Mad Hatter, with Deception
Rock Band on board
and keeping all the
headbangers
satisfied... which
they did hands down.
I’m sure the Hatter
and all who were
there had a blast -I
know I did!!!
Next month there
will be more race and
Gabe info.
As always be safe
out there and I will
see you all later.
