Parent Meeting. . . . .
There will be a meeting for
parents interested in College
Credit Plus, which is replacing
the post-secondary education
option (PSEO) and redefines dual
enrollment programs for any students grades 7-12. Eligible students can take a course and earn
high school and college credit that
appears on both the high school
and college transcripts.
There is no cost for the student to
participate in College Credit Plus
when the student is enrolled in a
public college or university.
Students choosing to enroll in a
participating private college or
university might incur costs.
Students interested in participating in College Credit Plus must
see their school counselor for full
details. April 1 is the deadline for
applying for the College Credit
Plus program.
A required informational meeting will take place on Tuesday,
March 17th at 6:30 p.m. at
Southview in the Performing Arts
Center to outline the details of
this program. All interested
students and parents must attend.

the Year program is to recognize an outstanding contribution of time, talent, and/or effort to Sylvania
Schools. Historically, Educator of the Year nominees
possess a number of characteristics and attitudes that
set them apart from their colleagues or other school
volunteers. Nominees are competent, caring individuals who time and again go out of their way to make a
positive impact on youth. To help the selection committee better understand how your nominee meets
these high standards, please provide specific examples of how he or she has made an impact on young
people. In addition to those specific objective comments, also include your impressions of what makes
this individual such a special person. Nominations
must be returned to the Schools Communications Office in the Administration Building no later than

Career Development in the 7th and 8th Grade Classrooms
What do you want to do after high school? Research shows that students with goals and plans do better in school, and they are more likely to graduate and succeed. This year Timberstone 7th and 8th graders completed career assessments offered through the Ohio Career Information System – Junior (OCIS
-Junior). These assessments were administered in Technology and Computer Applications classes.
Students reviewed their results and spent class time exploring information about careers in which they
received high scores or careers of interest to them. Information in OCIS-Junior assists students in
looking at who they are and who they are becoming and help students identify school, career, and life
goals. Students are encouraged to share their assessment results with their parents and to use the career assessment information available in OCIS-Junior from home as they plan for their future success.
8th grade students are encouraged to use their career assessment results in selecting high school
elective classes.
Parents and students can log on to OCIS at https://ocis.org/Portal.aspx. Passwords are, sy followed by
the student ID number. For example, sy454545. User names are the month of birth spelled out and
beginning with a capital letter followed by the date in two digits and the year in four digits.
For example, May032001.
Honor Roll Sundaes
Students who made the Timberstone Honor
Roll will be treated to sundaes on Wednesday,
February 4th. Members of the Timberstone
Parent Organization will help us with the
scooping honors.
Students make the Honor Roll by achieving at
least a 3.5 average or above. A list of the
Honor Roll students is contained in this
Newsletter.
A Friendly Reminder To
All My DynaCal Users
We would like to remind all of you who
are using the My DynaCal Feature of
DynaCal to keep your profile as
up-to-date as possible.
Please verify that your email address,
phone number, and carrier are all accurate.
Doing this will ensure that all your requested Email and/or Text Alerts will be
received.
Student Pick-Up/Drop-off
Please follow the student drop off/ pick up procedures. Students should not be dropped off in
front of the building between 7:45 -8:15 am and 2:45 - 3:15 pm.
This procedure for traffic flow is designed for student safety and we appreciate your cooperation with the process. Picking up and dropping off your child at the west end of the building
has eliminated students darting between buses to get into the parent’s car.
Most of our students and parents have been cooperative throughout this process. We
appreciate your concern and support.

Dear Parents and Families:
Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills kids learn, it is the one
you can influence the most.
We invite you to visit our Scholastic “Under the Sea” Book Fair and experience a celebration of
reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging
kids to read every day so they can lead better lives.
Our Book Fair is part of a reading event that brings to school a wonderful selection of fun, engaging, and affordable books kids want to read. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity
to choose books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids
practice reading, the better they’ll get.
Reading is vital to every child’s success, and it’s the door opener to the 21st century for all children. Since there will never be a substitute for a parent’s direct involvement in his/her child’s education, please make plans to visit our Book Fair.

Winter Weather is Still Here
When inclement weather is an issue, there are two decision points. The first one comes at 5:45 a.m.
when the Superintendent makes the decision to remain open, delay two hours, or to close. At times the
call may come later than 5:45 a.m. if the weather situation is still developing and we need additional
time to assess the roads. The second decision point comes by 7:45 a.m. when a final decision to remain open or close is made if warranted.
Please note that weather delays and closings are relayed to parents and staff via the local TV and radio
stations, by calling the closing/delay info line at 419-824-8696, on the District Facebook page, or via
electronic updates at www.cancellations.com. Alert calls will not be made for weather delays/closings.
