The honorees were Professor Ady Jean Gardy, Professor
Jean-Claude Exulien, Jan Mapou, Féquière Vilsaint of
Educa Vision, Edwidge Danticat who could not make it but
her husband Fedo showed up, but the main event was the
remittance of an award by Miami Dade County to
Director/Producer filmmaker Raoul Peck. HBO came with

Mold in donated
classrooms to Haiti?
Hello Carl,
You know me...ever the watchful eye. I am
sending this to you as an alert to the
community both here and in Haiti. Just my
opinion as I am still gathering the facts of
this but it seems that the Miami Board of
Ed/School District has recently donated
portable classrooms to Haiti and this was
accepted, although not yet shipped, to
Haiti. Our President Preval is accepting of
these portables with open arms, but this is a
time when we must look a gift horse in the
mouth.
I did a little bit of research and found that
alot of portable classrooms, especially
those in Florida had a problem with mold
and were discontinued for use. I am trying
to find out if these mold-infested classrooms
are the same outdated and discontinued
ones being generously donated to Haiti to
kill our children. It would be of no surprise to
me if they were because for years, Haiti has
been the recipient of outdated items
including medicine and food, or used
clothing and bad ideas.
Since your blog is one that is read by many
and possibly by the Haitian government as
well as our city and state officials here in
Florida, I am hoping you can post this. I truly
hope that President preval is at least smart
enough to have a Mold Inspection
company test these portables before being
sent to Haiti so that if indeed they are
INFESTED he does not have them shipped to
Haiti and then have to spend more money
to destroy them or ship them back to the
U.S. Haiti and Haitian children have enough
problems without having to deal with mold
in their "donated" classrooms.
I'll be back with more as my investigation
continues...
The articles below are but just a few of the
articles that give a telling story of how there
was a mold problem with portable
classrooms and how there are NEW designs
and NEW buildings in the works...so, one
can assume and allege that the "old"
portables no longer used by the school
district were problematic, and one of those
problems may have been mold. This may
very well have been the reason why they
were discontinued since so many teachers
and students were complaining of
headache, nausea, and vomiting as well as
respiratory problems.

death of her mother Hélène Delaquis. She did not say
when the funeral will be. Her brother Patrick Merceron is in
New York. People who knew Helene, will remember her
for her life full of joy. Now she is in a better place and join
her sister Marie-Thérèse Delaquis who was Pierre
Richard, Rony and Sheila Maximilien’s mom.

Denise Bombardier, cette grande gueule qui dit tout
haut ce que certains pensent tout bas, est laudative
envers Barack Obama. Sauf qu’en une phrase, elle a
laissé tomber son masque. Tant mieux qu’Obama
l’ait changée!
Son article paru dans l’édition du Devoir en date du
25 janvier 2009, dont des extraits sont repris par
l’agence de presse «Média Mosaïque», est pourtant
un chef d'oeuvre. Mme Bombardier sert une bonne
claque aux «pessimistes» qui tentent de bouder le
plaisir, l’ivresse des Américains et du monde suite à
l’élection de Barack Obama.
«Les pessimistes sont des empoisonneurs d'espoir»
écrit cette intellectuelle dont le franc-parler horspair et l’aisance, tant à l’oral qu’à l’écrit, font le
charme des locuteurs avertis et passionnés de la
langue française. Elle vante les qualités surhumaines
«de ce garçon surdoué, fruit du métissage racial mais
aussi culturel» en affirmant que l'ascension de
l’actuel président américain «marque une rupture
profonde de notre culture occidentale».
Pour clouer le bec des détracteurs d’Obama, Denise
Bombardier a ingénieusement comparé le 44e
président des États-Unis à Dieu. Une association
souvent utilisée par ces «pessimistes» à leur manière
pour banaliser les talents de l’ex-sénateur
de l’Illinois.
«Un homme ne peut pas changer la nature humaine.
Barack Obama ne fera pas disparaître la misère,
n'abolira pas les injustices sociales, n'éliminera pas la
pauvreté. Obama n'est pas Dieu, et même Dieu n'y
arrive pas. Mais pourquoi
faudrait-il que les pessimistes de malheur nous
communiquent la lourdeur de leur vision?», a-t-elle
plaidé.
Dans sa ferveur «obamaniaque», Mme Bombardier,
de poursuivre, «on peut penser que si cet homme,
inspiré, entouré de gens plus compétents les uns que
les autres, cet homme pragmatique, libéré des
dogmes, ne réussit pas à éviter la catastrophe
anticipée, personne ne le
fera(...)»
Cependant, aussi brillante qu’elle soit, elle n’a pu
éviter une gaffe à la Doc Mailloux. «Grâce à lui
(Obama, Ndlr), notre regard de Blancs sur les Noirs
change», a-t-elle osé endosser avant d’évoquer
dans le même paragraphe que «Barack Obama
estompe notre regard, en quelque sorte, premier pas
vers une réelle banalisation des différences raciales.»
Fallait-il qu’Obama devienne l’homme le plus
puissant de la planète pour que Denise Bombardier
admette qu’il n’y avait jamais de supériorité entre les
Blancs et les Noirs? La question reste posée. À elle de
répondre, à vous d’en juger!

Se ha sembrado una semilla
de poesía y de sentimientos
en suelo fértil y, así,
se convirtió en maravilla
de poéticos portentos:
Poetas y pensamientos
cuya huella sigue aquí.
Como excelsa sinfonía
en sus geniales instrumentos,
este "Rincón de Poesía"
ha conjugado talentos
que entonan la melodía
de dramáticos momentos,
de uno a otro confín.
Es un organismo vivo,
en contínuo movimiento,
como la mar, como el viento
que vuela libre y altivo;
y queda el ojo cautivo
de tántas bellas palabras,
dichas con gran sentimiento...
Como el mar, con su reflujo
en un incesante oleaje,
nuevas plumas se aproximan
en tanto que otras se van,
en lento peregrinaje
que cautiva con su embrujo
(sé que muchos más vendrán).
Audaces plumas en vuelo
retador, se abren camino
y depositan, como un huevo,
sus poemas en el nido
al que los trajo su destino
desde múltiples países;
saturando de matices,
fulgores y aliento nuevo
a un "Rincón" enriquecido
con palabras de aprendices...
Pero observo, consternado,
en las sombras del rincón
una triste situación
que me tiene preocupado:
quedan LUGARES VACÍOS
imposibles de llenar,
que nadie osará ocupar,
pues nadie tiene los bríos
para poder reemplazar
su talento e inspiración.
Hoy suspiro por la ausencia
de varios buenos amigos
que ya no están más conmigo,
aunque han dejado su esencia
plasmada en hermosos versos;
hoy, en caminos diversos
van derramando experiencia....
siguen vivos y vigentes
en nuestros corazones
