If you know Cara, you would know what
defines a true friend and a model student.
She manages to balance being the two
very well. A consistent Dean’s Lister and a
student leader, there is no way you could call
her credentials average. What’s even more
surprising is how Cara’s not your typical
intimidating and hard-to-reach achiever.
She is rather the opposite. Just like your
average college girl, she’s a goofball and
an occasional party girl who gets hooked
on Project Runway and schedules T-Th
HipHop Abs sessions at her condo unit.
These contribute to her humble and bubbly
demeanor, which has earned her the respect
and love of everyone who knows her. And
for her friends, it is for her caring and fun
personality that they feel really blessed to
have her with them.
9 things about Charles
Stories about Hershey range from hilarious
to unbelievable. Of the following stories,
two are true and one is a lie. Hershey’s
usual meal at McDonald’s used to be
Breakfast Value Meals 1, 2, 3, and 4. Once,
he went to McDonald’s and ordered
“the usual”, plus two large fries and two
sundaes. Before turning twenty, he already
earned his first million pesos by making
a killing in the stock market. He lost most
of it shortly afterwards, when he went to
Casino Filipino. He made a mistake when
counting cards in blackjack, trying to
impress a girl he had just picked up. Given
the choice of who to have lunch with—
Neil Strauss, pick-up artist and author of
The Game; Warren Buffet, legendary stock
market investor; and Jesus Christ, savior of
all mankind—he’ll choose Neil Strauss. If
you think you know which one it is, it’s not
what you think.
Far from being true to his modest stature,
Janssen personifies what it means to be
“small but terrible.” All of his friends agree:
Janssen is much more than what meets
the eye. As a friend, he always exudes a
positive kind of energy. He’s always there
to lighten up the mood with his humor
and mischievous pranks. He is always ready
to flash a toothy grin or break into a hearty
laugh. But what his friends will remember
most about him is that Janssen is a man of
compassion. Perhaps, there will always be
jokes among his friends about Janssen’s
height, but there is no joking about this
guy’s heart. Janssen is a guy who is always
willing to give himself. So, yes, he is “small
but terrible”; but with Janssen, there is
always something more, something great
and beautiful underneath his appearance
and his trademark smile. Janssen is truly
one of the last “true friends” out there.
Beneath the influence is a passionate and
faithful individual whose heart goes beyond
ordinary commitment and a vision beyond
the imaginable. People who know her
would say that within the serious façade is
a thoughtful and loving person. A warrior
princess, she is fierce, yet not afraid to be
vulnerable; and as a faith-filled woman
who leads by example, she inspires with
her comforting words and enlightening
thoughts. She is a mighty woman of
God, filled with compassion, talent, and
leadership skills. She influences not only
young women, but also men, and she
stands out and overcomes. She is resilient
as she is pretty. She has a pure and strong
heart, visible through her decisions and
courageous actions. Her friends admire her
perseverance despite difficulties. She’s trusts
the Lord in everything, and her smile is an
encouragement to those around.

Uana, one of the most distinctive names you
will ever encounter. It says a lot about the
person who owns it. Like her name, she’s
one of a kind, and there is definitely no one
like her. Her intelligence is intimidating, her
involvement is admirable, her creativity
is amazing, her thoughtfulness is heartwarming and her company is comforting.
A natural-born leader, Uana excels in every
group with perfect ease and virtually
zero effort. An expert in balancing all her
responsibilities, she can handle any problem
with such grace and poise that no one else
can. Expect this lady to breeze through
life as though it were just one big, fun
adventure. Success is definitely inevitable
for Uana. She’s a person who will always stay
true to herself and others. A unique person,
a genuine friend, a brilliant student and a
passionate server. She truly is Uana-f-a kind.
The Many Faces (or Phases) of Jemboy…
Instead of the usual write-up banter, it is
better to focus on the eccentricities that
truly make Niño Angelo Bersola (more
commonly known as Bers) one of ME’s
most interesting characters. Like the fact
that he wears a black jacket no matter how
hot it gets, or how he has the power to
cancel all sound waves. Like the fact that
he was dubbed “The Battletank” and “The
Juggernaut” by one of our Math teachers
as he plows through tests, or how he is
called “The Financier” by The LPG due to
his large amount of resources, and the
generosity that comes with it. Like his
contagious Daffy Duck laugh that lifted
people’s weary spirits during SMEG-sem,
or his fascination of all things silver. Do not
get on his bad side though, or he might
smite you with a flying desk. These could
go on and on, but all of these parts add up
to the most important sum: a great friend.
Michael Jonathan Biscocho – the name
is enough to send tingles down your
spine. Teachers love him. Students admire
him. And wannabe debaters fear him. A
champion from the Ateneo Debate Society,
he has brought honor to the country and
the Ateneo. Miko has mastered the art of
communicating, getting through to anyone
by his mere words. When things get tough,
Miko cheers people up like sunshine on a
cloudy day. Most notably, he has grown
into a full-fledged leader, earning not only
the ADS presidency, but also the support
and respect of everyone around him. He’s
almost worthy of being worshipped; but in
front of praise and applause, he will just flash
you his humble, sheepish smile. Despite his
accomplishments, Miko has always been a
loving son, a loyal friend, and an amazing
leader. Thanks thanks, Miko. One word of
thanks just isn’t enough.
Beautiful. Intelligent. A person with principle;
words not uncommonly mentioned in
the same breath as the woman presented
to you now. Yet, there is still something
to be found, a mystery behind the everevading horizon of who she really is.
Tammie’s days at the Ateneo had not always
been as pleasant as she had hoped for.
Tears have fallen, friendships have been
challenged, and love tested. But despite
these hardships, her conviction to learn has
helped her to endure. Out of suffering, she
chooses to learn patience. Out of misery,
she chooses to seek understanding. Out of
the offenses made against her, she chooses
to show forgiveness. Moreover, out of the
misfortunes Life may bring her, she chooses
to hope. Congratulations, Tammie, for
having made the most out of your stay in the
Ateneo. May you never forget that there is
always reason to smile.
Bucs, as he is called by his friends, may
come off a bit intimidating to some
people—probably because of his shy and
silent demeanor. But when you least expect
it, he delivers the funniest one-liners, and
you can’t help but laugh along with him.
He is not a man of many words, which only
shows that his words are well-thought of and
sincere. He is a very simple and no-fuss kind
of person, which is why it’s not so difficult to
please him. He is career-oriented. He knows
what he wants and is passionate about the
things he wants. Of course, he also knows
how to have fun. He is game for practically
anything (he was known as the ‘dancing
machine’ at one point after the Novemboys
party and also won best costume in a
Halloween party in Japan). Unpredictable,
yet ever reliable; silent, but crazy; intelligent,
honest, and a genuine friend—that’s Bucs
for you.

Jo is the great epitome of a small but
terrible person. At first glance, this lady is
quite quiet and demure, but one will soon
discover that she has a witty unexpected
humor that makes people laugh aloud and
want to hug her at the same time. Despite
Jo’s petite stature and introvert personality,
this innately talented and intelligent lady’s
pleasant and amiable appearance naturally
attracts people to her. She may seem
reserved, insensitive and indifferent, but
behind this expressionless, pokerfaced
lady is someone deeply sympathetic
and concerned with the plight of others.
Despite her great devotion to her studies,
Jo is constantly there to listen, laugh with,
and talk to, in a way that makes people feel
appreciated and cared for. Just looking at
her can brighten anyone’s day and make
one feel that no matter what happens,
everything will turn out just fine.
Words are simply not enough to describe
this one-in-a-million lady. A quintessential
achiever, Abby has her hands full
with academic and extracurricular
responsibilities. Once you get to know
her though, you’ll discover that behind
the model student exterior lies an
adventurous, fun-loving, easy-going, and
optimistic interior that makes her a wellrounded person. A faithful and reliable
friend, Abby is always ready to lend an ear
to listen, a shoulder to cry on and a hand
to hold on to– come hell or high water.
Her down-to-earth attitude (despite all
her achievements) easily earns her the
camaraderie and respect of her peers. An
embodiment of perfection, there is no
doubt that this multitalented lady will be
able to conquer the future and create her
own niche in the real world.
Meeting geniuses in Ateneo is not a
rare occurrence but finding one who at
the same exhibits humility is definitely
extraordinary—and that is who Leonard
is. A silent achiever, he still makes sure to
spend time with friends. Just by listening
to that entertaining laugh of his, you’d
know that he is one happy guy who
spends more time enjoying life than
studying! Leonard’s prowess does not
only span the intellectual realm though;
he plays table tennis, basketball, chess,
and even American football! He loves to
bet too, especially when he has a point
to prove (or even when there is no point
at all). Above all things, Leonard values
his relationships and makes sure that his
friends are well-kept. That is why, even
though he is an only child, he knows he
has people he can turn to, whenever the
need may arise.

Jeff differs from the rest, because he
seems the least affected by the stressful
atmosphere of the academe. When you
see him, he always acknowledges you
with a ready smile, a wave of the hand,
and a “Hi!”—as if there were not one
problem in the world. You could also see
him just walking around or spending time
with his friends, despite the tremendous
amount of work he needs to accomplish.
The truth is that he always reminds you
of the multitude of other good things in
life you tend to forget and ignore amidst
the stress brought about by your daily life.
Jeff, with his cool and friendly composure

Reg is the “No. 1 Mommy” of the barkada. You
can always depend on her to accomplish her
motherly tasks: she’s so talkative that it’s easy
to chat about anything under the sun; she’ll
always ask how your day is; she panics for
you even when you’re not worried of being
late; she listens and gives advice to all your
worries, no matter how small they are; and
she is willing to drive you anywhere, while
trying her best not to accidentally run you
over in the process. To add to that, she is also a
strong-willed, determined person, though she
doesn’t realize it. She stands by her principles
and beliefs and nothing, absolutely nothing
stops her from reaching her goal. She is very
hardworking, sometimes way too hardworking
that she doesn’t sleep at all. It seems all too
much, but with just a book in one hand, and a
cup of coffee on the other, SuperMommy Reg
can do everything.
Go-getters all have the knack for snatching
opportunities, turning defeats into victories,
and overcoming obstacles. Monch Cruz
is one such example. To him, everything
(everything!) can be done at the proper
pace. When he sets his eye on a goal,
he never strays. He just smiles, makes a
decision, and then, out of nowhere, you
realize it’s coming into full fruition. Look how
he stuck himself into something as bloodless
as Management Engineering – and got out
singing at the door. Look how he served
as one of the active members of MEA, how
he made a mark abroad through his JTA
experience and how he put up the ultra-hip
Aviation. In between such tough tasks, he
never fails to take it easy. He dines out with
friends and shops. I know you may label him
as too ambitious, but isn’t ambition a good
thing? At the very least, it shows unrelenting
passion and preparation.
Ida has developed a bond with her little
black dress. Perhaps Ida’s beloved partner
mirrors many aspects of her that by wearing
the dress, Ida effectively exteriorizes her
personality for all the world to see.
Creative, magaling magdrawing, magaling
sa music, at ubod ng bait at talino. Would
you believe that all of these refer to just one
man? Believe it because Anj, as what he’s
more commonly called, is all of the above.
He applies the same amount of passion
to his work as he does to his family and
friends; managing to juggle schoolwork
with responsibilities in MEA, AMA, AJMA,
and the Sanggunian while still finding time
for his loved ones. One of the nicest people
you’ll ever meet, Anj will go out of his way
for people, always finding it hard to say
no when asked for a favor. Whether it be a
t-shirt, tarp or poster design, a commercial
jingle for a school project, or simply to copy
off his well-written and complete notes,
he is always willing to help. He accepts
compliments for his achievements with the
greatest sense of humility. Anj is well- loved
not just for everything he has done but for
who he is.
If one would happen to look for an
intelligent Management Engineering
Major, a good sport on and off the
basketball court, and a genuine kindness
that comes naturally with a compassionate
heart of gold, that guy probably wouldn’t
be Jan. “Why is that so?” one might ask.
Jan epitomizes all those qualities and then
some. One would be undermining Jan’s
raw talent, boyish good looks, enthusiastic
philanthropy and sharp abilities. Without a
doubt and without question, Jan would be
overqualified for whatever job that one is
looking for.

Much as a little black dress completes every
woman’s wardrobe, Little Miss Ida completes
the lives of all that she has touched in her
unique and deeply personal ways.

One thing to know about Jerome is his
Christmas wish list of books on economics,
replete with titles and authors. He is a
sensible man who knows exactly what
he wants and gives his all in everything.
He may have developed some strange
interests – Christmas with economics, or
more nobly, the Other – but that’s because
of his trauma in failing to conquer the
globe as a child, no matter how he may
have stomped on world maps. One way
or another, he’ll think of others before
himself. He insists on being the last
person to start eating at a group meal.
Jerome dreams of dreams you couldn’t
simply imagine. Call him mabait, masipag,
matalino or any other adjective, but he will
always be a man of strong integrity, with a
deep respect for God, others, himself, and
how we all interact in the greater scheme
of life.
Christian Drilon, “Drils” to his closer friends, is
a man of many talents. Naturally smart, Drils
is one of the lucky few who can play Rock
Band all day and still ace a major exam (to
the envy of others). A quick learner, he is also
a skilled drummer, a natural video gamer,
and a powerhouse center in basketball.
Drils is able to mesh well with any crowd
and is well-loved by his peers because of
his witty charm and spontaneous attitude.
His greatest flaw is his willingness manlibre
and bringing people home late at night
even if they are out of the way. This flaw has
earned him the nickname “Ninong.” His
good qualities, coupled with the fact that
he is a sweet, true and loyal friend, make
him a very eligible bachelor and a fine catch
for any lucky lady. His friends predict world
domination and a happy marriage with 10
children, plus hundreds of godchildren, in
this guy’s future.

Great things come in small packages. Few
people typify this more than the wonder
that is Kaye Enriquez. She has always been
the all-around girl who has it all. Kaye aces
her ME major subjects with ease, mentoring
up the scores of her study mates to boot.
Aside from excelling in academics, she is also
a project head of MEA and an active member
of APO. Gifted with exceptional basketball
skills, she spent 7 years with the Poveda
team and is now the heart and soul of her
teams in MIB and IAC. Besides being a bona
fide heartthrob, Kaye has always been the
generous and selfless friend who stays up
late just to lend her ear. She works very hard
and gives her heart to achieve perfection.
She parties even harder, providing many
drinks and fond memories to her friends.
Guaranteed a bright future ahead, Kaye
imprinted herself in the hearts of all those
privileged to know her.
Eya isn’t Eya without her many
contradictions. She can be deathly
professional about her studies while also
be extremely child-like and “fangirl-ish”
about anime and many cute things – from
wide-eyed, thumb-sucking babies to soft,
furry pandas, to pink, activist cats. She
may come across as cold and indifferent
but also be crazy enough to be able cheer
you up during those dreary days. She
doesn’t have that much to say, but her
few words matter. Her simplicity declares
her enormous presence – it’s as concrete
and real, just like her favorite babies: a
motorbike, a lawnmower, and her laptop.
She really doesn’t own the first two, but
she is the most potent force in the universe
with her computer. She’ll debug anything,
even your life, coding Existence with the
Eya Algorithm: mourn, then conquer, one
friggin’ step at a time.
She says ‘happiness is a choice’, and she
chooses just that. At first glance, Kei is the
quiet, studious and obedient girl-nextdoor type. However, even this simple girl
has an aura of excitement that makes her
so attractive. She is driven, determined,
serious about life and knows her priorities,
but is really a child at heart. Her infectious
cheerful disposition allows her to naturally
make people feel special and loved. Her
bubbly personality expresses her unknown
fondness for the arts, channeled through
dancing, singing, writing and “frustrated”
drawing. Her pleasing character endears
her to people, and her cute and honest
randomness leaves a lasting impression on
all her friends. She shows motherly care, a
young girl’s creative energy, a perfectionist’s
OC-ness, and the resiliency of a true magisquality individual. Kei remains grounded in
virtue, living her life with God.

There is no need to explain why it is so; Jeg
is just this and reasons as to why do not
matter.
Tantan is a man of few words. However, his
words emanate with wit and humor. He
displays the occasional spark of youthful,
boyish vitality in his priceless one-liner
hirits that rarely fail to amaze. One cannot
help but remember Polonius’ adage, that
“Brevity is the soul of wit.” He is a quiet
observer but not a wallflower; his presence
is invaluable to those who know him. In
addition, Tantan is trustworthy. He has an
outstanding focus on whatever he needs
to do, translating to his superhuman
efficiency and competency as a loyal
comrade. One cannot help but grow fond
of this gentleman, for underneath Tantan’s
quiet exterior is certainly a person of heart
and good will, certainly a treasure not to
be overlooked.
Josh dives into the world of video games,
Manga, and Anime, posing an outgoing
personality. He sees life as an adventure, as
he himself is always ready to venture into
the big unknown, welcoming everything
with a smile. Deep underneath this façade,
he knows the severity of this and he will
always be ready to handle whatever the
situation demands of him.

Claude HAS: the largest possible appetite
for such a small body, the goofiest smile
(and the most heart-warming too), the
scruffiest and fastest growing beard,
the spikiest hair, the sincerest eyes, the
most “creative” mind, and the purest and
biggest heart one could ever know.
Nichel always worked towards making a
difference, engaging himself in sociallyoriented activities, always following his
heart. Even with all his commitments,
Nichel still finds time to enjoy the company
of his friends. Relationships for him are the
most important things because for him, it
is, and will always be, about the people he
loves. Very smart, but casual, and downto-earth, Nichel is such a great friend – one
that you will only find once in your life. He
is a friend who will never leave you; he will
stick with you even in your most trying
times. Batch 2009 will be remembered for
the many unique personalities who have
made their mark in the lives of those they
have met. Nichel is among them– the
excellent, the exceptional, the most loving.

Claude CAN: finish a Hershey’s bar in two
bites, sing (fairly well if he gets the tune
right), talk non-stop for hours, debate
spectacularly, give the most comforting
hug, make everything alright by being
there, and be the best-est friend.
But more than what he has and what he
can do, Claude IS: living proof that the
most amazing things can happen even
to the most undeserving of people. And
that’s what he is—the most amazing thing
that has ever happened—to all of us.

Meh never ceases to surprise. The little acts

There were times when I found myself asking
what the heck I’ve gotten myself in to. But
in spite of all my whining and complaining,
I relished the torture. Thousands of pages
of papers, sleepless cramming nights and
yards of readings molded me into the person
that I am today. In truth, I couldn’t imagine
any other life. Nothing can top our beach
tambay, bonding Fridays, and pig-out nights.
Now that college life is about to end, I want
to hold on. But that’s life. You just keep on
going.
No one can imitate a YM emoticon like Jo
Anne. She can eat as much as a guy, get
warm and fuzzy at the sight of a baby, and
make a punch feel like a hug. But seriously,
this girl is in love with Batman, and nothing
can cheer this kid up like ice cream. She
has the most angelic singing voice—not to
mention a slight lisp when there’s an “s” at
the end of a word. Jo Anne hates crowds,
which shows another side to this Wonder
Woman. Reflective by nature, she thinks
a lot about things. She’ll also stick by you
and will always be there to lend an ear or a
hug. You see, the beauty of the moon and
the stars lies in the radiance that doesn’t
call attention upon itself. Jo Anne is
unassuming like her favorite night sky. She
doesn’t know she’s all these, and acts like
she’s not all that, which makes her all the
more endearing to those around her.

Vivacious at heart, she is always energetic,
comfortable and interested during
gatherings. Usually, however, she is just

once you get to know her pretty well,
you’ll be surprised. She is Intelligent and
sometimes you’ll never know what’s on her
mind. She is Active and usually on the go

“Where will we eat?” , probably the most
frequent question of this smart, witty
young man. You can see from his figure
that he makes eating a hobby. Don’t get
me wrong, it’s actually a complement,
for no one knows what good food tastes
like better than Eug. He’s the group’s
connoisseur and we surely thank him for
that. Other than food, Eug is firm in his
principles in life. He defends it, keeps it
and always strives to live for it. This guy
can also be very funny, humoring his
friends with his witty side-comments
and his unorthodox explanations of his
philosophies in life. Very well-rounded, he
can give advice on almost anything. He
never fails to impress us with his practical
solutions to problems be it for school
or for the heart. Surely you’ll not regret
having him as a friend, and to the girls,
even a boyfriend.
If there’s one thing you would tell Javy
when you see him, it would be, “I have
kwento.” On a ride in his car, or over lunch,
Javy would always make time to listen to
his friends. An amazing conversationalist,
he balances listening, inserting a joke or
two, and adding in some words of wisdom.
Being a good friend is not only his expertise.
Even on the basketball court, he would be
the one making sure that everyone gets
to play, even if it means giving up his own
minutes to play. In planning and setting up
events, Javy would do everything just to
make everything a blast. But that’s not all.
He makes sure he spends enough time with
his family, tutoring his sisters, and shopping
with them in the mall. With the traits of a
gentleman and a heart of gold, Jave is a
friend that you will treasure forever. Even an
ordinary day will turn extraordinary when
you’re with him.
Mara is definitely someone who has made
her mark in college. Despite being swamped
with academic load, she is known for the
fun and spunk she brings to anything. With
her long arms that go up in the air when
she is excited and her signature laugh (with
occasional rolling on the floor) are two
things distinctly Mara. She balances her
various commitments, but never forgets
to unwind and enjoy the company of her
friends. She is someone who is reliable in
time of need. She goes lengths for a friend,
and you know that you have someone
you can trust. She has proven time and
again that her heart is genuine and sincere.
Despite all she has been through, nothing
can bring Mara’s spirits down. There is never
a challenge too big, and you know she will
always fight ‘til the end. There is no doubt
in the strength of Mara’s character. She is
definitely the tower of power.
Nixxie has always been bitingly smart and
acutely pragmatic; has had preferential order
for reality tv, and has enjoyed sleep far more
than any ordinary person. Thankfully, these
‘endearing’ characteristics of hers haven’t
faded into the monochromatic background
of the so-called “true-blue Atenean spirit”.
She remains her own person in a time when
everybody else wants to fit in, although she
didn’t really make it through college entirely
unscathed. Apart from the coffee addiction
(which will probably never be cured), there is
this newfound determination and focus that
allows her to be great in what she does, and
perhaps do even greater things in the future.
Anyway, the point of this rather concise
salute on the “Virtues of Being Veronica” (bet
you forgot her real name didn’t you?) is that
Nixxie rocks her own socks, simply because
her socks smell better than yours!

Quinito or Q as fondly called by his close
friends has always been the “rock” in our
group. He has always been the kindhearted
and soft-spoken person in our barkada.
Unbeknownst to most, this guy can cook
up a storm if left in your kitchen! (Hii-yahh)
His enthusiasm for good food is surpassed
only by his ultimate hobby: action figure
collecting. This guy’s place is like a huge
toy store! His room puts Toys ‘R Us to
shame. Imagine a pad that could make a
toy-hungry kid throw tantrums! Beneath all
that “geek-iness” lies an incredible lump of a
human being. Q is an extremely intelligent
individual. He takes his studies very seriously
but still manages to remain as fun as a
monkey with a hammer and a bottle of
ketchup. Q loves his friends and sleeps with
them on a regular basis; inuman-sleepovers,
that is. He is the definition of “too kind.”

Chris is a person who is typically silent,
serious, and shy. Perhaps he has already
formed a certain veil of mystery – but hey,
who is not a mystery as a human being?
In this veil, he embarked on a trek towards
truth and diligently pursued his studies

management principles and ideas). This
journey has made him confused with the
world and its absurdities but at the same
time, inspired by and awed with all its
mysteries.
Where is Paul? You can probably find him
studying inside the Rizal Lib, mingling with
members in the Lex Room, eating inside
the University Dorm, praying silently at
the Gonzaga chapel or examining grocery
products in Rustans. Sometimes, he hangs
out with friends along Katipunan, or cooks
his own meals when he’s in Singapore.
When bored, he usually watches movies

cannot sing or dance, but he listens to love
and happy songs while reading or walking
alone. Acting is also a limitation as he
only knows how to look happy by smiling,
which is also symbolic of his very positive

It’s tough to find someone who lives life
more fully than Roz. Gifted with stunning
looks, a radiant singing voice, and sharp wit
and intellect, Roz never fails to light up any
room. As the MEA Vice-president for Internal
Affairs, Roz has brought members of the
organization closer together. She is likewise
an expert in French, which she hones in
classes and in gatherings with alcohol. A
tough girl who thrives in athletic activities
like basketball, Roz is also a lady who charms
everyone—from children to company CEO’s.
This girl has no pretenses, preferring instead
to enjoy life head-on with gusto. She loves
her family and her friends, and they love her
immensely, since Roz is the type whom you
can count on to genuinely sympathize and
care. Beyond her excellent academic and
organizational record, we are lucky to have
spent much time with a girl with such fun
and depth as Roz.
In a sense, it almost seems futile to speak
about Byron’s character. With his cloudy
glasses and casual getup, he is always
able to defy whatever description you
attach to him at any point in time. He has
a certain dynamic personality: always on
the move, and seeming to appear out
of nowhere at the weirdest times, ready
to shake you with surprise; constantly
changing preferences, from c- to k- (and all
other letters of the alphabet) dramas, from
mushy to horror to angsty animations;
always carrying various emotions, from
crazily stressed, to maniacal laughter,
to superhero countenance, to false
seriousness and the like; and always
munching on nature’s goodness. He is
always able to leave an impression, and
yet similar to this description, people lose
track of what is real or not. Really, it’s all
simply magic.
Driven by a passion for a variety of things,
Joey is headed for greatness. He is a music
freak—one whom you’ll go to and then
find yourself shamefully putting away your
iPod and whatever it is that you mistakenly
call music. No track, song, or artist is ever
too new and unheard of for him and his
taste is developed by far, only through
hours of searching, reading, and passionate
toe-tapping. He is well-immersed in
literature—from books to novels to graphic
novels—and in film—from cult classics to
independent to foreign to box office—all of
which make him wittier than any comic book
tag-line. And still, Joey remains to be one of
the most thoughtful people. His willingness
to spend time and listen to a friend is the
most sincere, whether it’s over a beer of

Jose Bernardo P. Pacis, commonly known
to his friends and coursemates as “Jobee,”
is not your run-of-the-mill ME student. This
person is the epitome of “Work hard. Play
hard.” He spends his free time fulfilling his
love and passion for next-generation video
games. But when it’s time to get down and
dirty, you can always count on Jobee. He
belongs to a barkada called the “League
of Pogi Gentlemen.” Jobee’s unique and
funny personality allows him to be the
“clown” of the group, often cracking jokes
that will leave other people laughing
for hours on end. Jobee also acts as the
group’s storyteller, with his expert ability
in conjuring up stories and tales. “Jobee” is
synonymous to “entertainment.” You are
guaranteed to never have a dull moment
with him. Rain or shine, this guy can and
will make you smile.
80% of the time, Ralph may be ridiculously
stressed juggling his obligations, paranoid
about what others say, and perhaps
prying. But of the 20% that he is so-called
normal, don’t be surprised how he can just
be the most extraordinary person you’ll
ever meet—his dream travels; his comic
personality; his frustration over singing;
his capabilities to drown his friends in
booze. Maybe it’s his reflections about
life, his desire to learn, or his openness
to change that make him truly one-of-akind. Regardless, we’re glad he’s always

Insane. If you could sum up Tatan’s
personality in just one word, that would be
the exact adjective you could think of. But
it isn’t because he’s gotten “all cuckoo” for
being so smart. He’s 100% insane because:
number one, he cracks the stupidest jokes
and still makes people laugh somehow.
Number two, he sings power “ballads”
(Aegis songs, FYI), never mind if he’s offkey. Number three, his tendency to break
everything he touches—which his friends
fondly refer to as the “Tatan Effect”—is part
of his charm. Number four (this is the serious
part), he’s a self-proclaimed, sleep-deprived
workaholic eager to conquer the corporate
world with his business savvy ME skills.
So when he said that he wants to be a big
global tycoon someday, you’re pretty sure
that not too long from now, that’s exactly
what he’s going to be. Insane, huh? That’s
Tatan…future millionaire.
Mark, or more commonly known as Reps,
is hairy like an animal. The first time you
see him, flashes of Wolverine will instantly
cross your mind. Don’t let this exterior
fool you though, because Reps is one of
the most comforting and kindest people
you will meet. When you’re feeling down,
he won’t fail to brighten you up with his
patented line, “Okay lang yan,” and his
cheerful smile. In addition to these, Reps is
also a talented singer and guitarist. He can
also take command on the basketball court
with his unstoppable lay-up skills. The true
sign of Reps’ high regard for friendship,
though, you will only find out once you
sleep in the same room with him. Because
of his loud snoring, he will volunteer to
be the very last to sleep so no one could
hear him. He’s selfless, intelligent, funny,
well-rounded and a good listener. Reps is
indeed a catch for both men and women.
There are things you shouldn’t do when
you are with Jayme. Don’t speak deep
Filipino. He wouldn’t understand. Don’t get
started with Nihongo, either. He converts
all English words to possible Japanese
equivalents (tree = “tu-ri”). Don’t ride on a
boat with him. He will tip it over and blame
you for it. Don’t be shy to ask him to treat
you to a movie because he can get a friend
in for free (and he’s generous enough to
do so). Don’t play jackstones with him. He
will accuse you of cheating because of his
lack of playing skills. Don’t ask him to do
the figure-eight. Spare everyone else the
pain of watching (and too much laughing).
Don’t let the initial cold façade fool you.
He is one of the warmest-hearted people
you’ll ever meet. Don’t let him go. He is
sincere, reliable, loving, and the best friend
anyone could ever have.

of her passion. Yes, Jan is your perfect
cheerleader. But behind her pompoms,

they’re a given. But inside her heart, you’ll
see that the life she offers for her family is
so awesome that it will leave you running

your own. So even if she is controlled by
her busy schedule, she will never lose time

He doesn’t exactly scream musician or
artist. Get close enough and you’ll see that
the low profile is indirectly proportional to
the talent. Kahlil’s a dreamer – thinks big,
plans how to get there, and gets there. He
really breaks the stereotype. One minute
he’s number crunching with the rest of his
SMEG friends, the next, he’s ripping away
to Joe Satriani. And just when you think
you’ve got him figured out, you realize you
haven’t. He has the uncanny ability to take
whatever obstacle life throws at him and
make it something to jump off from, than
something to crumble beneath. He’s the
strength and solid ground to everyone that
loves him. He never fails them because his
true strength has always come from God
– yet another layer that rarely surfaces but
forms part of his core. Did I mention that
he sings? Apart from spiders, the dark, and
blood, there’s nothing Kahl can’t do.
Therese’s personhood is, for lack of a better
word, amorphous. She is the epitome of

At first glance, you might find Cliff to be
the silent and carefree boy sitting around
the corner. However, first impressions are
never accurate. Once you get to know him,
you’d discover his frivolous and lively side,
being a fan of anime, bridge, basketball,
and even video games. Cliff also possesses
something rare, which is his extraordinary
sense of humility—something you would
not often see today, given that he is skilled
in both sports and academics alike. Above
everything else, Cliff takes his relationships
seriously. He may not be the sort of
person to always give advices, but friends
trust him, for he is sincere, genuine and
trustworthy. Reliable and steadfast, he is a
friend you would want to have especially
in times of trouble. Naturally, he knows
that he can also depend on his friends
during times of need.
“What’s in a name?”… Isê, to her friends, is
Ice to her doting Dad. She is simple in looks,
quick-witted, but snobbish at times. But
like an iceberg, there is so much more to
her. Beneath the visible tip is a self-driven
and motivated person who competes only
with herself, disciplined to the point of
sacrifice, yet resilient amidst life’s turmoil. It
is what the eyes cannot see that makes her
principled, responsible, and determined to
achieve greatness with dignity and integrity.

He’s the guy who sat down quietly on his
chair on his first day, and the next day, left
everyone laughing out loud with his witty
one-liners. He’s the guy who tries to rival

knowledge of things, from the immensely
useful to the ridiculously trivial. He’s the
guy who likes boasting about his fighting
skills, all in theory of course since they
are untested, but even then, he’s the guy
who would never back down from a fight.
He’s the guy who tries to appear strong
and always puts on a brave face, but deep
down he’s really sweet and soft-hearted.
He’s the guy who’s all business during
crunch time, but before that and after that,
he sure knows how to have a good time.
Any guy can fit any one description, but
only one fits all, and that’s Elv.
Wilhelm Su is the very anomaly of creative
ingenuity – an ingenuity that seeks to
manipulate the formal precision of the world
to create an entirely new realm of his own
where rules no longer exist; and boundaries,
once restrictive, would simply be stepping
stones to greater achievement. As a child
prodigy, Wil has always been a passionate
and gifted creator; his character driven
by childlike curiosity and wonder. While
he enjoys programming—and playing—
intellectually stimulating computer games
and exercises full mastery of computers,
Excel, ITM, and the Internet; he also enjoys
creating the simplest things—from cute
caricatures to beautifully crafted origami and
arts. An inhumanely fast thinker, Wil controls
the logic of a mathematician while at the

Effortlessly smart, Carlos is a true wizard
when it comes to math and computers. His

Humble despite his skills and smarts, Carlos
is one of the most well-liked people on
campus, with his ever-friendly demeanor
and frequent offer of a helping hand. Yet, to
his many close friends, he’s so much more.
His surprising generosity and concern for his
peers makes him the friend who’ll never fail
you. Ever reliable and responsible, he’s also
a commendable student. He’s one of those
people you surely won’t forget about after
graduation--and for good reason --- he’s

Did you notice the silent guy with glasses
in the front aisle of class? Would you ever
think he was also the guy laughing his
head off in history class? Get to know Gino
and discover his thrill-seeking side. Be it
with the mental gymnastics he performs
in his head or the daredevil rides he just
can’t get enough of, this ME major is
just a paradox of his own kind. A lover of
humanities more than of numbers and of
the sciences, Gino is always wondering
what he’s doing in ME. However, his
talents are enough to compensate for
this misalignment of interests. In his spare
time, Gino goes on an adventure to find
the latest gadgets and spends some of this
time teaching creative writing or chemistry
to high school kids. So with all the clues
I’ve set out for you, look for this guy, figure
him out and get ready to join him for the
rollercoaster ride of your life.
Ateneans are characterized by their drive
to succeed, ability to serve, and strong
sense of spirituality. Undoubtedly, Joseph
is as true as any Atenean can get. He has
remained as selfless and in service to both
God and organization, and has the grades
to match his demanding course.

His cool exterior can be intimidating at first,
but you’d be amazed once you get to know
Jeff. Witty and cunning, Mr. Calm knows
how to get the job done under pressure. A
food connoisseur with an addictive appetite,
he’s a person you’d want to be with during
food trips; and he can cook too! Silent yet
adventurous; daunting yet caring; Jeff is a
tennis master-in-the-making who can ace
the world with his exceptional personality.
(JT) Goal-oriented, clever, composed,
persistent are few of the characteristics that
make Jeff up--the tip of the iceberg as you
might find out. Sure, he might seem like
the shy and serious type and the guy who
prepares for a test one week before but
don’t let that side of him fool you. Jeff has
the heart of a kid who enjoys everything
simple and endearing. Aside from an
amusing sense of humor, he practically has
everything it takes to conquer the world.

The name Android was initiated in high
school. Now, most people call him Droid,
but most don’t know that at home, he has
always been Du. Most people know him for
his mad drum skills, but most don’t know of
his dramatic rendition of chopsticks on the
piano. Most people think he has been bald
since the beginning of time. Few remember
that it was CAT that introduced him to his
signature hairstyle. Most people know
him as an exceptional M.E. major, but few
remember that, once upon a time, he was a
star even in the Ateneo Grade School. Most
people know him for being responsible and
diligent, and everybody knows that beneath
that serious façade is an outrageous sense
of humor. Most people treasure him as a
great friend, but few get to see that he is also
a dedicated son and brother. Most people
know he is headed for greatness. For that, I
am proud just to know him.
Steph is quite an enigma. Her pretty and
ladylike stance attracts numerous suitors,
but it’s her mischievous boyish charm that
soon wins them over. Yes, she does appear
to be mataray, yet you’ll soon find that her
sheepish smile and ubiquitous laugh can
catch even the most defended soul off
guard. She laughs at the silliest jokes and
has her trademark “Oh Steph…” moments,
but on the other hand, her intellect and
the way she communicates her ideas can
make you think twice about your opinions.
She’s simple but classy, crazy yet sensible,
and she looks like she’s constantly on a
diet, but her appetite can actually feed two
people. Genuine until the end, Steph will
always be that person who’s ready to cry,
laugh, and dream with you. A paradox in
many ways but one - this lady will boggle
your mind, but in the end, she is definitely
someone worth keeping.
My Lords and Ladies, being a knight
does not just mean gallivanting around
on a horse whilst holding a sword. This
man has proven it so. Franciscus, called
Dragonsoul, stands before us, his deeds
known to many in the realm. A scholar
initially, he has risen up to become the
Black Knight, defender of the weak around
the realm. His honor is well known, as he
has chosen to live his life ethically despite
the rampant debauchery of his chosen
comrades. He is capable of great love to
those who he opens his heart to, giving
them his trust and unending loyalty.
“Richie” never fails to listen to people,
comforting them in times of need. He’s a
friend you would want to be with in tense
conditions, because he has a gift for taking
your thoughts away from troubles and
on to more exciting details. Though he’s
a Management Engineering and former
AJSS student, he doesn’t brag about these
things. He keeps a low profile, and is more
known for his passion in the service of others
than for what he has achieved for himself.
People are naturally attracted to him. He has
this certain aura that makes people secure
whenever they’re around him. He is mature
in handling his relationships with the people
he loves (even if he doesn’t really mean to
show it). Lastly, Richie continues to be the
strength of all those people around him. Nothing in life is impossible for this guy.
Richie Yu– a brother, a friend, a person worth
looking up to. A born writer instead of a math god, Jen
never really thought she’d survive her
course but apparently, “crossing the bridge
when you get there” worked for this chinita
who’s never caught unprepared. Known as
one of M.E.’s most admired girls, you’ll be
astounded at her wide variety of skills in
everything from excelling in academics as
a Dean’s Lister, to pistol shooting. Definitely
more than just a beauty with brains, she’s
also talkative in a way that would make you
want to stop and chat. On the serious side,
Jen has an exceptionally laudable level of
self-discipline and persistence. She devotes
herself to things she’s passionate about,
and is known for her undying sense of
responsibility, which drives her to constantly
endeavor for excellence in every field. Goaldriven as she is, she finds the time to bond
with friends and is convinced that college
has been the best time of her life.
