Yarn-party scarf
This is an adaptation of the Shape it Scarf! from
The Knit Stitch. There the scarf was done in one
yarn–a ribbon. Here it's done in 3 yarns; see notes
below. The pattern is a little more complex because
the cast-on must be "blended" so the yarns aren't
dragged too far. (If you don't understand this, don't
worry; the pattern will make it clear!)
I love this piece, partly because I always loved
how this shaped scarf sits around the neck. But
there's more going on here. In knitting we become
accustomed to producing the garment, but here we
also produce (actually, design!) the fabric. Yea!

There is no need to be specific about what yarn
weights you need. One should be shiny (could be
what we call 'railroad tracks'), and can be weight
2–4: one should be 'fluffy,' (could be either an
eyelash or something with a very long hair), and can
be weight 2–5: one should be a ribbon, and should
be weight 4–5 (to give it body), you'll be fine.
• Fine–Bulky weight
A • ribbon
B • shiny yarn
C • fluffy or hairy yarn

As for combining colors, pick one yarn you really
like, then pick 2 that coordinate. If they are all
variegated, you'll love the effect!

Use e-wrap cast-on throughout.
Make a loose overhand knot with all 3 yarns
together, leaving 4" tails.
This is just to secure them, so the tails don't
get in your way and drive you crazy. You
will remove this knot at the end and weave
in the tails.
With A, cast on 3 stitches and knit 1 row. Turn.
* Cast on 1B, 1A, 1B, knit 1 row with B. Turn.
cast on 1C, 1B, 1C, knit 1 row with C. Turn.
Cast on 1A, 1C, 1A, knit 1 row with A. Turn.
If you put each yarn in it's own little baggy, it
helps prevent the balls from unwinding and
minimizes tangling.
Repeat from * to 111 sts.
