Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!
Welcome to Mrs Davidson who joined us this
term as our new Administrative Assistant. Mrs
Davidson works in school every morning from
8.30—11.30. She is settling in well and is enjoying
being part of our school.
We also welcome Miss Holmes, a final year
teaching student from Leeds
Beckett University. She will
work in Key Stage 2 until the end of May.
We wish Miss Holmes the best of luck as we think she
will make a great teacher because she makes her
lessons fun and interesting.

Spring Reading
Challenge
This term our Reading
Challenge involved
climbing the
Sunflower. Everyone
took part and tried to
climb up to the top by
reading at least 5 times a week to an
adult at home. This had been the
best term to date with every child
without exception consistently
reading at least 5 times a week to an
adult at home. This term the lucky
winner was Anna who got a £10
WH Smith voucher.
Billy Bear went on his travels to India with Rosie and Francis again. This time he
looked at all the crops that are grown there. This linked to our topic this term on
Plants. Rosie and Francis took lots of photographs so we were able to see the
similarities and differences between our food and theirs. Billy met the children in
Crakehall school and took some letters out for them from Key Stage 2. We all got a
letter back with a photograph of the person who had written it.
They showed us a video of a cow getting rescued by their fire and rescue service.
We presented Rosie and Francis with a cheque to send to the school there they can
use it towards tools to grow their crops. The children call Billy Bear Billy Bomai.

Eventful eggs
Wow! There they were sat in a boiling hot incubator.
Patiently waiting, we all watched the petitie brown
eggs lying on the incubator floor. After a couple of
days there was a chipping noise. Everybody rushed to
the incubator……...pecking it’s way out of the eggshell
a fragile baby chick was born.
The thrill of Daisy being born was sensational
however when we walked into the hall there were
five more baby chicks ready to be moved into he
brooding box.
After the arrival of six baby chicks everyone was
relieved. We were all desperate to name them. The
chicks were named Daisy, Sir Cluckalot, Cookie ,
Clucton, Amber and Eggbert. Unfortunately one baby
chick died—it wad Cookie he had problems walking.
Did you know baby chicks love to sleep on you?
We all loved cleaning them out, playing with them
and cuddling the very active chicks.
After two weeks it was time to say goodbye to the
hilarious chicks. They brightened up our days 100%
and made us smile. Daisy was my favourite and I
would love to have smuggled her home. Thank you

Cluster Curriculum Days
We are working, as part of a small schools cluster, with
Hackforth and Hornby, Hunton and Arrathorne, Kell Bank,
Snape and Thornton Watlass. Every half term the children
from a chosen year group will join together and work together
on an area of the curriculum.
This term the Year 3 children went to Hackforth and spent the
afternoon doing science activities. All the Year one children
came to Leeming and Londonderry and had a musical
afternoon. We are hoping that the children will benefit both
educationally and socially. The Year 3 children and the Year 1
children have enjoyed making new friends and were a credit
to our school.

Mrs Barker had been working with KS2
doing Geography work on the local area. We
have been on two trips.
Trip 1
We went to look at the land use on Mr Pratt’s
farm. We learnt how the land was farmed and
what animals were there. We learned about the
landscape around us. Mr Pratt is busy lambing at
the moment. He
explained the marking on the sheep. He
also has cows which are kept for milking. HeIt
was really interesting.
Trip 2
On Friday 20th March we all filed outside in to the
cold air with our pin pricked card viewers ready
to see “The Eclipse.” We soon found out these
were not a success. I tried the mirror viewer but
this didn't work either. People in the UK only saw
a partial eclipse. The next partial eclipse will be
in 2026 and the next total solar eclipse will be in
2090.

Music for Life
On Monday the 9th of March two people called
Naomi and James came to school - they were from
musical explorers. They played us pieces of music
from different countries:- Brazil, South Pole, Russia,
America and Great Britain. They played them on
different instruments which were the French horn,
Double bass, Didgeridoo, a charango and an African
drum. All the different countries all had a great
tradition. After we had looked at all the countries we
sang some songs. We then made our own verses for a
song based on France, China and Australia. Everyone
really enjoyed the afternoon even the teachers. They
were very talented musicians.
We went to RAF Leeming to see how the land
was used there. We went to the museum. It had
lots of artefacts there. We had a safety talk first.
We learnt about Amy Johnson who was a famous pilot who flew to Australia. We watched a
video clip of the Canadian bombers. We talked
about a people who saved lives. We had our
photo taken. We really enjoyed it and everybody found out something they didn’t know.

Easter Activities
We have had a busy time this Easter. We have held and Easter Assembly which was followed by a very well attended Easter Family lunch. We
have had an egg decorating competition and the winners were XXXXXXXXXXXX with XXXXXXXXand XXXXXXXX. withXXXXXXXXXXXX
We have had an Easter egg tombola which has raised over XXXXXXXX for funds for school funds - the money will be used to buy outdoor play
equipment. Finally we have had an easter egg hunt in the churchyard which was great fun.
We are sending all the children home with a sunflower to love and care for over the next few weeks. There will be a prize for the tallest sunflower.

Comic Relief
On Friday 13th March we all came to
school in non-uniform. If you wanted to you could make your face funny. Throughout the week there were
red noses for sale that cost £1. There
were cakes for sale on the Friday they
were 50p - they were delicious. Altogether we raised over £40 for comic
relief.
As you can see in the picture everyone
entered into the spirit of the day.

Visit to Sam Turners
On Wednesday 14th of January
all of the school went to Sam
Turners on a bus. When we
arrived we all went upstairs to
the café to have a snack and a
drink. After we finished we
waited for the manager to give
us a tour. First we looked
around the centre to see what
they sold. Next, we went
outside to look at all the
different planters we saw all
different kinds of them like
strawberry planters, rose
planters and seed planters. The
decorated planters were
cheaper than the normal
planters. There was winter
proof ones, decorated ones and
plain ones.
The Debate
We entered a debating competition
which was held at The Civic Centre
Northallerton on 10th March.
Nervously we walked into the
council chamber, we were all very
scared. We sat down and a man
came and said that we had to pick a
piece of paper, luckily we picked
the one with a three on it that meant
that we spoke 3rd PHEW!!! We
listened to all the other people’s
speeches then it was our turn. We
anxiously walked up to the podium
and started to speak. It was
terrifying. When we had read them
out we got asked questions and that
wasn’t too scary. When we had
finished we were relieved!!!!

Open Day
On Wednesday 4th March our school had an
open day. Parents were invited to some into
school in the morning and afternoon. In the
morning we did tricky word problems about a
farmer called Farmer Brown and then we did
some Literacy about chicks. In the afternoon
we sketched the chicks and held them. We
performed a song to our parents. We all enjoyed open day it was nice to have our parents
working with us.
WORLD BOOK DAY
On Thursday 5th March
we celebrated World
Book Day. We got to
choose if we wanted to
either make a fact or
fiction book. We all
dressed in our pj’s. “It
was fun because we
dressed in comfy pyjamas
“said Nathan. We did
gymnastics with our
beautiful clothes
underneath. In the
afternoon we got to hold
the chicks and say
goodbye, because it was
their last day. We all
brought a book in and
read them before our
gym. It was a fun, exciting
day.

On Tuesday 10th of march
we went to a gymnastics
competition in Bedale high
school. The year two and
three team went first and
after the debate the Year
five and six team
competed. We opened the
doors nervously when
entering the room. Before
we did the gym we
warmed up. As part of the
competition we did three
