Alex’s charming smile says it all! Grandview has
been the best support system possible for our
entire family since he has been 15 months old.
The staff, Preschool Outreach Program and
workshops are phenomenal. Alex’s ‘treats’ include
interactive music therapy (while Mommy
is at support group) and his all-time favourite swimming lessons.
There is no mistaking it when this good natured
and funny child enters the building because of his
happy giggles and exaggerated hand movements
in anticipation of Tot n’ Me swimming lessons.

It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since I joined the Grandview Children's Centre team.
I feel privileged to be working with such dedicated staff and volunteers who are focused on making
a difference for children and youth with special needs and their families. I have great respect for our
Board of Trustees, chaired by George Ryan, who contribute countless volunteer hours in their
governance role and in so many other ways. We owe thanks to 5 MPPs who represent us at Queen’s
Park and support the work we do: Wayne Arthurs and Joe Dickson from the Liberal party; Christine
Elliott, John O’Toole and Jerry Ouellette from the PC party. They have each met with me on several
occasions, including visits to Grandview.
We are in a period of exciting opportunities. In recognition of our critical lack of space, the Ontario
Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS) has provided funds for planning a new expanded
facility. Our vision is for one, multi-agency, multi-service children’s centre located more centrally in
the Region. This vision has been driven by input we received from families, staff, volunteers, agencies
and other stakeholders during our extensive strategic planning process. Check out our website at

Report of
the Chair
The other day I took a few minutes to look back at
all the exciting things that have been going on at
Grandview over the last year. Every month there
were new initiatives or new opportunities to
explore. From a Board perspective, two of the
most interesting projects we worked on recently
were a governance review and researching the
potential for a new multi-service children’s centre.
The governance review allowed us to analyze the
Board’s roles and responsibilities. It has been an
amazing process that will help the Board be more
efficient and effective in the future.
