Lack of Provincial funding hurts
Grandview Gateways
By Grandview Gateways Board of

Grandview Gateways Inc. (GGI) has
a Service Purchase Agreement with
Family Services - Community

Services
(CLDS). This means that CLDS
pays a residential per diem and/or a
day program rate for each vulnerable
adult living with an intellectual
disability that is supported in the
agency. And in return the agency’s
volunteer Board of Directors takes
on the responsibility of providing the
programming and supports for each
individual.
Provincial funding provides for
operating costs and wages. However,
one long-term problem is that the
province presently funds direct
service staff wages at an average of Ian and Kayla read and sang “Coat of Many Colours” by Dolly

become very difficult to attract
applicants while paying an average
wage of $12.06 an hour. So in

for Grandview Gateways decided
that their only recourse was to
increase wages even though they did
not have the approval or the funding
from the Province to cover the costs.
Many other agencies in Westman
and Parkland regions did the same.
After all, agencies had been waiting
for many years for the Province to

recommendations and it seemed as
though further progress with wage
parity was stalled.

Community raffle
By Jennifer Carniel
The Grandview & District Community Foundation’s key commitment is to
keeping a community growing by supporting projects and resources that
are vital and considered at the heart of the community. To assist the
Grandview & District Community Foundation in raising funds, the
Exponent has donated a custom-framed edition of the Exponent that
features Ryan Pulock as being drafted by the New York Islanders and is
autographed by Ryan Pulock.
The Exponent made this donation because it recognizes the efforts and
contributions that the Grandview & District Community Foundation has
made in the community as well as the people who have made donations to
the Grandview & District Community Foundation which has enabled the
foundation to give back and support the community.
