The gate will be manned 24/7 through the Labor Day weekend. All member vehicles and watercraft should display the proper LMCH decals by now. If you haven’t registered them please do your best to do so as soon as possible. It will make things much easier at what will certainly be a busy weekend at the front gate. Guests will have to be registered at the front gate as well. You can actually have the registrations filled out ahead of time by going online and downloading copies of the guest vehicle and watercraft registration applications or stop by the office and get a few for future use. Please remember that members must accompany their guests at all times during their stay at LMCH. For years we’ve made ice available at the office after business hours as a convenience. LMCH probably has the cheapest ice in the county compared to other businesses. Our goal is not necessarily to make money off the ice, but to provide a service to the membership. This past year proved costly to LMCH with more than 600 bags of ice unaccounted for over the course of the entire year. It’s sad that a small few ruin things for the majority but LMCH cannot continue this practice. As a result of this we reluctantly have decided to lock the ice box after business hours. We regret the inconvenience but see no alternative. The weather looks great for our first holiday weekend of the year. Many activities are scheduled for the weekend and I hope that everyone will take the time to enjoy them. Have fun, play nice and everyone have a great weekend. PLAN AHEAD IF YOU NEED ICE! The ice chest will now be locked after hours so be sure to get your ice before 4:30. If there is a big line in the office, you may still pay by dropping off your money in the locking box to the right of the office door. Security Meeting There will be a Security meeting held on the Deck at KK5, Saturday, May 23rd at 11:00am LMC H New Security Sweatshirts will be available for purchase. All who are interested, please plan to attend. REFRIGERATOR RECALL Skyline Corporation has recalled Several Dometic refrigerators Manufactured between April 1997 and May 2003. Boat Registrations Due Be sure to come to the office and pick up your Red 2009 Boat and trailer decals. Member boats are 20.00 for the year& automatically re-bills each year so if you have had a boat previously registered, this charge was on your March statement. Waterfront Snack shack Will be open on Saturday & Sunday from 11:30am- 4:30pm President’s Report Richard Smith, President [email protected] Welcome to Memorial Day weekend at the Hideaway and the beginning of our summer season. I trust that you received a pleasant Greeting from the Metro Watch monitor at the front gate. Jack Hoppel passed away early Thursday morning. Jack and Pennie joined the Hideaway in 1973. Jack contributed much to the Hideaway before he became ill. Pennie continued to give to the Hideaway until a couple years ago. Jack was a good man and will be missed by many. The Board met this past Saturday with Ken and Doug from the engineering geologist firm to review their progress on Block 14. They are working with us to get the slide repair project out to bid. We anticipate construction work to begin during the first part of September assuming the permitting process goes smoothly. Larry shared with the Board that we have switched our internet access from Hughes Net satellite service to TDS, our local phone service, at a savings of $2,484 per year. The Board approved a proposal presented by Mark Darula to create a better web site to include improved member services. If you would like to purchase ice from the office, please stop by during office hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The Board approved keeping the price at $1 but agreed to lock the storage after hours. Too much ice was taken without being paid during the past year. Our supplier has raised the cost of ice to the Hideaway. Alan Melton, 96/4, has been approved by the Board to serve as the Tree Committee chair. Gretchen Stangier, 56/11, will continue to chair the logging portion of the Natural Resource committee. If you are interested in serving as a member of the Hideaway’s Board of Directors please submit your application by July 28th. Elections will be held during the September 26th meeting. Conscience, as I understand it, is the impulse to do the right thing because it is right, regardless of personal ends, and has nothing whatever to do with the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. by Margaret Collier Graham How Green can you be? Every where you look there is a “Green” idea or program. We have one here at Campers Hideaway. The program here is simple Use less. Change your lights to CFC lighting or consider LED lights. Recycle your recyclable items back home. Turn down your electrical heaters and off when you leave. The benefits: your participation earns you a swim pass after 6 months and this year the 6% of you who are members saw a credit on your last statements. A Handy tote for recycling and a Go Green Sticker for your site. If more of you join the credit could increase next year. I know some of you are thinking “sure the use went down we were snowed out this year and the slide prevented many from coming up to their sites.” Prior to winter setting in ,last fall billing showed a decrease in electrical use. I think many of you are applying the principles of Go Green and haven’t signed up for the benefits. Don’t miss out ! Please consider becoming part of this program . Be cautious this is the first time a lot of boats are out for the season, make sure you have all of our life vests, and safety equipment on board. The sun will be out but the water is still cold. Please make sure you have picked up your 2009 stickers for your Boat and trailer, with the holiday weekend you will not be allowed to launch with out a new 2009 sticker. We have not scheduled our annual work party at the Waterfront yet but it will most likely be the first weekend in June, with all the damage to every ones sites (including my own) and bad weather ..... I just haven't gotten it scheduled. We will be looking for a group of volunteers to pressure wash the docks this year. I Know maintenance has been down there repairing picnic tables and barbecues and had started pressure washing the launch area, which helps us as well. Pressure washing the docks takes about 3-4 days to do all of the docks, and is some what weather related. If you are Interested in giving us a hand with this project contact the office or email Us at [email protected] . As usual throughout the season I/we will try and keep every one informed on any changes or activities at the LMCH Waterfront if you have any suggestions contact us any time. Our annual Waterfront Meeting will be on May 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at Headquarters. Please come and join us... As a friendly reminder every person under the age of 25 in the state of Washington will have to take a boaters education class. You can do this on line at http://www.boat-ed.com/wa/ index.htm there is a $29.00 charge per card but is good for your life time, if you don’t pass you don’t have to pay. “January 1, 2009, it will be boaters 25 years of age or younger will be required to obtain their Boater Education Card. The phased-in period for compliance will continue until 2016 for various age groups. WATERFRONT ETIQUETTE The holiday weekend is upon us, the weather is looking great and the joys of Lake Merwin abound for all of us. As a reminder, every year we have the usual boat ramp congestion and entertainment. I would like to remind every one that we all entitled to our fifteen minutes of fame at the boat launch so please be polite and respectful. The person that your waiting on, may become your new best friend. Also if you haven’t reserved a slip please don’t assume that you can just park your boat in a slip. A reservation is required, your boat will be impounded and you will be fined. Maintaining good order at the LMCH Waterfront is just necessity. So let’s all have a good time and please be safe out there this weekend. If you have any complaints, suggestions, or need assistance feel free to contact us or the office. Mark Pickrell 25/5 wf/90 Karen Frampton 45/5 wf/46 In Memory Jack Hoppel passed away May 21st, with Pennie at his side. Most of you know Pennie, She was a member of LMCH since 1973 and due to her husband Jack’s illness, reluctantly sold their site in 2006. Jack was the “Silent Partner” and Pennie was very active in volunteering at the Hideaway. She was the Queen of raffle sales, put on many dances and volunteered at the front gate & waterfront. All the while, Jack stayed behind the scenes, supporting her the entire way. Jack was a very kind & loving man and we will miss him very dearly. A memorial has not yet been planned but we will keep you updated when it is scheduled. If anyone wishes to send cards to Pennie , You may send them in care of LMCH . God rest you, Jack.
