The YWCA is an organization that
rescues innocent women, children
and sometimes men from abusers,
stalkers and other people involved
in domestic violence and sexual
assault. It amazes me how this
organization helps people escape
dangerous situations and get the services they need. I am
very proud to support the YWCA and every program they
have. They are changing the lives of women, children and
men in distress and that needs to be shouted to the world.

At the 2014 Outstanding Women
Awards, the YWCA of Richmond
announce the establishment of the
Pat Asch Fellowship for Social Justice
to further the work and honor the
memory of Patricia Morris Asch. The Fellowship is designed
to support the work or professional development of a woman
who, like Pat, has a vision for change in her own life and
the drive to make positive change in the Greater Richmond
community. Applications will be accepted in the Fall of
each year. Please visit out website for more information.
When I moved back in with my abuser. Julie [YWCA counselor] told
me it was okay and that the YW was still there for me, no matter what.
After a bad fight, I was in the hospital and my son had to stay with
his second-grade teacher. Julie told me not only could I come back
to the shelter, but I'd have my own apartment now, and my son could
have his own room. I still see Julie for counseling, but now I have my
own apartment and hold my own lease. I've started a small business
and know I am setting a good example for my son. There is no doubt
in my mind that I would not be alive now if it wasn't for the YWCA.

My husband and I were working, but the recession hit both our
industries hard. When we toured preschools we could afford, we
knew they weren't high quality and we didn't want our kids there.
Then we came to the YWCA and we were overjoyed. It was licensed,
nationally-accredited, AND we were able to pay based on our income.
We knew this was the place for us. All three of our children were
students at the YW and each one is excelling in elementary school now.
