Kyoto City has been holding various events at many spots within the city by setting the spring equinox day as the “Traditional Industry Day.” This is to disseminate the charms of Kyoto artisan’s highly skilled techniques both within and outside the country. Kyoto Saryo will be one of the venues for this purpose and Kyoto’s traditional items made with a high-level techniques and strong design skills, which were passed down for Yasumasa SHIGENO’s silk stole dyed with Kikujin color generations will be exhibited. This exhibition will be divided into first and second halves and for the first part, middle-ranked artisans who were chosen as a “Future Craftsmen” by the mayor will be introduced. For the second part, items made by young artisans who will lead the Kyoto’s next generation, will be Madoka WAKUNAMI’s saké cups made with exhibited. Surprisingly, the Big Stairway has a total of 171 stairs covering 7 floors and about 15,000 LED lights will be used for this great performance.
