experiencia de ambos en programas en de la ciudad de Pittsburgh, en el que aprenderán inglés, harán actividades culturales, artísticas y deportivas con niños americanos y se desarrollarán como personas aprendiendo a valerse por sí mismos. el extranjero y bajo la supervisión ¿Donde estamos? Desde el Departamento de inglés del colegio Caude y la escuela de tenis del Club Internacional, uniendo la personal de Carlos Martín (Director Escuela de Tenis) y Alicia García (Departamento de Inglés Colegio Caude) y Franco Livi (entrenador del Club Internacional de Tenis) ¿En qué consiste el programa
de Pittsburgh Experience?
Se trata de tres semanas (del 19 de Junio al 12 de Julio) en las que nuestros chicos y chicas (de 10 a 15 años) disfrutarán de un verano inolvidable dentro de la cultura americana en USA, en un combinado de estancia en familias americanas y un camp en Chattam University dentro de un college dentro Estaremos en Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, ciudad culturalmente muy activa y genuinamente americana. disfrutaremos de la ciudad y su idiosincrasia lo que supone una inmersión geográfica total dentro de USA. Aprender inglés, La inmersión durante los 8 primeros días es total, day camp durante el día con niños americanos y luego asignaremos familias en las que profesores de Chattam University albergarán a nuestros chicos y chicas con nuestra supervisión los primeros 9 días. Una vez terminados los esos días seguiremos con el day camp de 8:30 a 16h en Chattam University, después del camp, haremos clase de inglés activa (diario, situaciones reales de habla, etc.) y después haremos actividades culturales que nos ofrece la ciudad. Museos, partido de baseball, parque acuático y de atracciones, excursiones en bicicleta por los famosos puentes de hierro de la ciudad, visita al downtown y al Pittsburgh Encline, canoas alrededor de la ciudad y un programa específico de tenis para los jugadores más experimentados en el que entrenaremos y disputaremos torneos de la USTA. A partir de final de Junio dormiremos en el campus de Chattam College un sitio precioso en un espectacular enclave de la ciudad. La vida del day camp evidentemente es en inglés, las relaciones entre nuestros chicos y chicas y el resto del campamento, monitores, entrenadores y chicos americanos es en inglés. Nuestros chicos son integrados por grupos de edad con chicos americanos y no pueden elegir las mismas actividades a realizar dos niños españoles de la misma edad. Nuestro objetivo es que se integren y aprendan el inglés real por necesidad de la vida diaria, hay un avance considerable en el listening al principio y más adelante en el speaking. Como complemento damos una clase de inglés diaria para reforzar el speaking. Actividades del Chattam Day Camp Es un campamento cultural, artístico, deportivo en el que los niños eligen las actividades que prefieren. Estas son las actividades ofertadas(son actividades que fuerzan la comunicación de nuestros chicos y chicas con los niños americanos) son: 2 Dimensional Art-­‐‑-­‐‑ Draw, paint and print in this 2-­‐‑-­‐‑Dimensional art class. The class projects are all inspired by one of the greatest people to ever live, you! Create beautiful self-­‐‑-­‐‑portraits and pictures of all your favorite people, places and things. Work with your classmates to make your own paint and make a huge mural, all about your summer at Chatham Day Camp! A Composer’s Journey: Campers will learn the basics of music theory, practice writing out their own music on staff paper and learn about composition-­‐‑-­‐‑
connecting the works of the past with songs heard today (on the radio). should be leotard and tights or loose and comfortable; ballet shoes or socks. African Drum Ensemble-­‐‑-­‐‑ Learn the history, technique and different styles of African drumming. Campers will learn songs and movements that go along with these traditional music styles. Basketball-­‐‑-­‐‑ Learn shooting, dribbling, defense and game technique and play games in small group environment. Archery-­‐‑-­‐‑ Each day campers will have the opportunity to participate and compete in archery in an environment that is both controlled and safe. Campers will learn how to safely and properly fire a bow and arrow and will also compete in daily and weekly challenges designed by the instructor. Ballet/Lyrical: Beginner Level-­‐‑-­‐‑ This class is geared towards beginning dancers with little to no previous dance experience. It’s meant for those students who would like to learn the basic steps in barre, ballet positions, and movement. Lyrical movements will also be introduced which extends body lines and concentrates on expression your own feelings. Clothing should be leotard and tights or loose and comfortable; ballet shoes or socks. Ballet/Lyrical: Intermediate/Adv.Level This class is meant for the more experienced dancer with a few years of dance experience. The student should have some knowledge of ballet steps and barre work. We will focus on extending their knowledge and working on leaps, turns, lifts, and some partner work. Example performance: Students who performed to “Breath of Life” by Florence and the Machine. Clothing Beginning Music Theory: Campers in the class will explore the world of music theory. Basic rhythm, key signatures, scales, chords, and note identification will be studied through engaging lesson and activities. Brass Sectional-­‐‑ Learn new techniques and experience small group coaching. Please indicate your instrument and years of experience on the class schedule worksheet. Camp Choir-­‐‑ Be a part of a singing ensemble. Work on the basics of choral singing and perform for the end of camp performances! Chatham School of Rock "School of Rock": Feel what it'ʹs like to be in a real Rock Band! Campers will choose one or two songs to learn, rehearse as a group and perform for a camp concert. This class is a great first experience in forming a band and working together as team to put on a rocking show. Campers must have at least one year experience with their respective instrument. Please indicate your instrument and years of experience. instrument and years of experience on the class schedule worksheet. CHOMP-­‐‑-­‐‑ Chatham’s musical performance art is back this summer! Use found objects to create percussion and rhythm instruments. Digital Photography: Tired of digital photography equaling Photoshop? Surprisingly this class is going to focus on something else: photography. Using your own digital cameras the class will embark on a number of photography assignments including portraiture, lighting, composition, color, and black & white. Photos will be taken every day, with the rest of class time being augmented with file handling, quick Photoshop touchups, and printing of final photos. Ceramics: Will be an introduction to the hand building techniques of clay. Students will learn the history of ceramics and how to use ceramic tools correctly. Campers will also be able to explore their own manipulation of the medium. All artwork will be fired and glazed to a non-­‐‑-­‐‑porous state. There is a possibility of making wheel thrown pottery towards the end of the session. Cine-­‐maniacs: Think outside the frame! Learn the basics of film production along with pre, and post-­‐‑-­‐‑ production tips with lessons on Storyboarding, screenwriting, filming and editing. Cooking and Crafts with Julia: This course will explore craft-­‐‑-­‐‑like projects you can make for the home! Anything and everything from how to decorate cookies and cakes to making blankets and tie-­‐‑-­‐‑dyed t-­‐‑-­‐‑ shirts will be discovered in this course. Concert Band-­‐‑-­‐‑ Concert band is an exciting opportunity for young students to grow as performers on their instruments as well as become well rounded musicians. Bring your band instrument (woodwind, brass or percussion) to this ensemble and enjoy making music with friends both current and new!*YOU must indicate your Digital Scrapbooking: Do you enjoying taking pictures? Do you want to be able to look back and remember your summer at Chatham Day Camp? If you answered yes to these questions then Digital Scrapbooking is the class for you! Throughout the summer students will be taking pictures of their experiences, favorite places, friends, and much more. We will learn how to use online websites to create your own individual scrapbook designed exactly how you want it! Dismantling Disney: The students will explore various Disney movies in a new and exciting way. This year, we will discuss Tangled and Brave and/or Wreck It Ralph in depth, focusing on questions like, "ʺWhere did these stories originally come from?"ʺ and "ʺWhat kind of symbolism appears in these beloved tales?"ʺ The purpose of this class is for students to really get the chance to develop their debate and critical thinking skills. Drama-­‐‑-­‐‑ All the basics of acting, voice projection, staging, character creation and more. Campers will participate in the camp play. This class is open to 3 and 6 week campers, and it must appear on your schedule EVERYDAY! ever before. In this course, campers will have the opportunity to study media outlets, such as newspapers, magazines, advertising, and the Internet, and find their Multi-­‐‑-­‐‑media voice through writing Eco-­‐Art: Summer camp is all about having fun, being creative, and learning new things and that is exactly what this class has to offer. This is not your typical painting and drawing art class. This summer students will be working hands on with repurposed materials, and objects found in nature to make beautiful works of art. This class will be fun, exciting, and engaging for all students. So if you want to get your hands a little messy, learn some new uses for everyday objects, and most of all have an awesome summer, Eco-­‐‑Art is the class for you! Explorations of Rock Climbing: Take advantage of this opportunity to get hands on experience at Chatham University’s climbing wall! This course is designed to introduce the fundamental skills of rock climbing in a positive and safe environment. The challenges faced while rock climbing will help build on the principles of teamwork, communication, goal setting, and personal commitment. * You must sign the Release of Liability and return it with your campers’ schedule. THIS IS FOR DIVISION 5 CAMPERS ONLY Environmental Expeditions: Come explore the environment with a new eye: a scientist’s eye! In this course we will conduct explorations, observations, and experiments to learn new things about our environment. Campers will learn to see their environment the way a scientists does. A tree will no longer be a tree, but a habitat. A pond will no longer be a pond, but the home of millions of microorganisms. A plant will no longer be a plant, but a living and breathing thing. Students will get a taste of different types of sciences, including microbiology, ecology, and behavioral ecology. “Extra, Extra! Write all about it!"ʺ: In the fast-­‐‑-­‐‑paced world of the media, writers can express more creativity than Gardening: “A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.” Campers will learn the value of gardening in this hands-­‐‑-­‐‑on gardening class. Campers will develop gardening techniques and skills while learning how to identify different plant species and learn about how gardens can benefit a household, community, and society. Glee Please-­‐‑-­‐‑ Glee is a performance-­‐‑-­‐‑
based class. We will have fun singing many different kinds of vocal music: pop, musical theater, rock and roll, jazz, and others. We will also incorporate choreography and sometimes props into our performances. Most songs will feature one or more soloists. If you have seen performances by Glee, the television show, or just enjoy singing and dancing; come join Miss Jenn’s and Miss Julia’s team! This option must appear on your schedule everyday ! Hand Talk: Explore the world of American Sign Language. Each day, campers will enjoy a fun, music focused environment in which they will learn Sign Language basics as well as practical vocabulary. Hip-­‐Hop: Beginner Level: This class is designed for the beginner dancer. The goal of this class is to give the student a framework of choreography where they can add their own personal style and framework. Each class will start off with a basic warm-­‐‑-­‐‑up, then moves into a breakdown of hip-­‐‑-­‐‑hop steps, combinations, and freestyle movement. Come have fun and explore your hip-­‐‑-­‐‑
hop style! Hip-­‐Hop: Intermediate/Advanced Level Intermediate/Advanced Hip Hop is a class designed to suit those who have some hip-­‐‑-­‐‑hop experience or 1-­‐‑-­‐‑2 years in Miss Jenn’s class as a hip-­‐‑-­‐‑hop dancer. This class is to reach everyone from the amateur hip-­‐‑hop enthusiast to the more experienced or classically trained dancer. The goal of this class is to give the student a framework of choreography where they can add their own personal style and framework. Classes usually consist of a warm-­‐‑up, stretching and choreography. We’ll also focus on some contemporary hip hop, locking, poppin, and breakin. Imagination Ink: While creative writing can range from novels to short stories to poetry, a little imagination can take you anywhere. This course will teach the foundations of creative writing, such as characters, plot, form, and language. Students will be able to see all these elements come to life through published work, collective class ideas, and individual experimentation. Interactive Fitness: Learn how to stay physically active in a fun environment with friends and an Xbox Kinect! The course will incorporate fitness based activities and dynamic games using the Xbox Kinect. The activities offered through the course will be based on the five components health related fitness. Jazz Band-­‐‑-­‐‑ Be a part of the camp ensemble, learn new techniques, experience small group coaching and perform at the end of camp performances!*YOU must indicate your instrument and years of experience on the class schedule worksheet. Latin Jazz: Beginner Level-­‐‑-­‐‑ This is a beginner class for those who have never danced prior or only for a year or less. The high energy, spirited class is inspired by dances from the Latin, Caribbean and African movement. It mixes all types of movement with a focus on jazz steps. This active class is similar to Zumba! Latin Jazz: Intermediate/Advanced Level This is meant for students who have been dancing for 3 or more years. They have taken professional classes and have the proper clothing and footwear necessary. In this class, they will learn and perform more challenging footwork, leaps, turns, and even small acrobatics. The high energy, spirited class is inspired by dances from the Latin, Caribbean and African movement. It mixes all types of movement with a focus on jazz steps. This active class is similar to Zumba! Mixed Media: Study amazing modern artists while learning about a variety of unique materials and interesting techniques! Experiment with collaging and layering as you create your own master pieces with a variety of paints, drawing materials, and surprise items you never thought you’d see in art class! Music in Motion-­‐‑-­‐‑ Join the flag corps, learn routines and formations to music! Musical Theater* -­‐‑-­‐‑ A Chatham Day Camp standard; Be a part of a full length musical production performed at the end of the six week camp, this option is for six week campers only and must appear on your schedule everyday ! Orchestra-­‐‑-­‐‑ Be a part of the camp ensemble, learn new techniques, experience small group coaching and perform at the end of camp performance *YOU must indicate your instrument and years of experience on the class schedule worksheet. Outdoor Leisure Activities :Have fun with other campers while learning fun games that can be played with friends and family! The course will take place in an outdoor environment and will focus on activities played in a picnic like atmosphere. Piano Lab-­‐‑-­‐‑ Learn new techniques and experience small group coaching. Please indicate years of experience on the class schedule worksheet. "Prop Shop" Campers will take a step behind the curtain to design, create, and produce all of the props and set pieces for Chatham'ʹs musical and theater productions. Campers will need their creativity, intuition, and resourcefulness handy as they cut, paint, glue and sew to ensure the theater department has everything it needs to put on top notch productions. Ready, Set, Sports!-­‐‑-­‐‑ (general sports option) Campers will engage in a variety of field sports from wiffle ball to flag football. Campers will be able to participate in a variety of different games and sporting activities. Each week, a new sport will be introduced and each camper will have the opportunity to participate in the activities that are created by the instructor. Soccer-­‐‑-­‐‑ Learn technique and play games in a small group environment. Every day, we will play soccer-­‐‑-­‐‑ related games such as World Cup, Power-­‐‑-­‐‑
Finesse, Pirate Treasure, and actual scrimmages. The students will be instructed on proper form, tactical approach, and teamwork. Song Writing: The songwriting course will explore the basic tools used in creating a contemporary song on the guitar. The students will learn to write using creative writing prompts and various forms of poetic structure. The students will learn simple chords on the guitar and various strumming patterns, as well as basic chord progressions used in pop and folk songs. The course will also explore the appropriate singing technique needed for the style of music. The students will learn the protocols for performance practice and song introduction in a “coffeehouse” setting. No previous guitar experience is needed! String Sectional-­‐‑-­‐‑ Learn new techniques and experience small group coaching. Please indicate your instrument and years of experience on the class schedule worksheet. Swimming-­‐‑-­‐‑ Our aquatics instructors will help campers enhance their swimming skills and our beautiful indoor pool is the perfect complement to a hot summer day! The Reporter: From on camera reporting to voice overs, students will learn all aspects of writing, shooting, and producing their very own news stories. With this course students will learn how to write for news and broadcast their stories. Students will learn the basics ofusing cameras and editing, and will have a DVD of their work at the end of each 3 weeks. Throw Some Glitter, Make it Rain: The American Dream in Contemporary Theater: This class will be an exploration of what it means to make it in America using contemporary plays from the last 100 years of American theater, including a diverse range of voices from Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller, to Pittsburgh’s own August Wilson, and early 21st century playwright Annie Baker. We will discuss themes of family, success, money, passion, and of course, dreams, through a combination of on-­‐‑-­‐‑your-­‐‑-­‐‑feet activities and short readings, leading towards the answering of questions like: What is the American Dream? Does it really exist? What does it mean to chase a dream? What are our own American Dreams? Volleyball-­‐‑-­‐‑ Learn technique and play games in a small group environment. El programa para nuestros jóvenes jugadores de tenis consiste en 4 horas diarias de entrenamiento, con nuestro equipo de entrenadores dirigido por Carlos Martín y Franco Livi, todos ellos poseen amplia experiencia en competición como jugadores y como entrenadores. La parte de entrenamiento se complementa con la participación de nuestros jugadores en torneos de la USTA (torneos federados USA. La tarifa son 2.975 euros más el viaje, el año pasado nos costó alrededor de 800 euros. En esto está incluido todo lo necesario para su estancia y manutención, excursiones, etc. El dinero que queráis darle extra a los chicos para sus gastos (solo necesarios para compras opcionales en el mall, en el parque de atracciones o en el partido de baseball, etc.). Hay un único plazo de pago de reserva que es un depósito de 1000€ a efectuar antes del 1 de Abril. El resto deberá efectuarse antes del 1 de Mayo. Cleveland trip Durante la estancia haremos un viaje a Cleveland al mega parque de atracciones de Cedar Point, con los roller coasters más grandes del mundo a orillas de los grandes lagos.
