READ CHOOSING THE CORRECT BACKING Backings are vital for the production of good quality embroidery. It should have no stretch in order to stabilise the fabric while embroidering. There are four backing groups, within these groups are different weights which can either be hard or soft. 1. Tear away - one advantage is reduced production time as tearing is faster than cutting. Our most popular 40g is BAK004W. 2. Cut away - a great choice for embroidering knits and stretchy fabrics that need more stability. We recommend 051PS89W a soft 80g backing that will help prevent puckering. 3. Heat/Water soluble - ideal for when the embroidered item needs to have no visible backing. Try Avalon or Madeira ‘B’ film 035AS51B. 4. Stick on - used for embroidering items that are hard to hoop, such as light weight fabrics. To reduce rippling during the embroidery process, try 051SV57W. With so many different backings on the market it is always advisable to run tests. Madeira offers an extensive range of backings to suit all requirements at competitive prices.
