EUGBC working lunch with Dirk Schuebel, Head of Division for Eastern
Partnership in the EEAS
On 22 January 2014, EUGBC held a working lunch with Dirk
Schuebel, Head of Division for Eastern Partnership in the
EEAS. The meeting was hosted by the Head of the EU
Delegation to Georgia, Ambassador Philip Dimitrov at his
residence.
Working lunch from the EU side was also attended by
Deputy Head of the Mission, Boris Iarochevitch and other
members of the EU Delegation.

During the meeting parties discussed broad spectrum of
issues. Mr. Schuebel was interested to know business
and political environment in Georgia. The Secretary
General and Board members provided detailed
information. EUGBC members discussed the importance
of signing the Association Agreement with its integral
part – DCFTA, which is the top political priority for the
Government of Georgia.

EUGBC Members’ meeting with the State Minister of Georgia for
European and Euro-Atlantic Integration
On 7 February 2014, EUGBC organized the Members’ Meeting with the State Minister of Georgia for European
and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Alex Petriashvili. The meeting was hosted by the Information Center for EU and
NATO at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia.
The Meeting was opened by the Director of the Information Center, Elene Gotsadze and the Secretary General of
EUGBC, Ambassador Zviad Chumburidze. Secretary General welcomed the guests and thanked the State Minister
for meeting with EUGBC members. Mr. Chumburidze informed the audience on the current and planned activities
of the Council. He spoke on the following major projects: Official visit of EUGBC members - representatives of the
business community in Georgia to Brussels; Establishment of the Council of Experts in EUGBC; Economic Photo
Exhibition in Tbilisi and in major cities in Europe; others.

The State Minister Alex Petriashvili greeted EUGBC members and thanked the Council for offering the dialog with
the business community in Georgia. Mr. Petriashvili spoke about the state of the EU-Georgia Association
Agreement/DCFTA and its anticipated signature in summer.
The State Minister underlined the importance of business involvement in this important political process and
stressed that the prospect of free trade with the EU – one of the largest and predictable world markets – is of vital
importance to Georgia. In addition, Mr. Petriashvili spoke on his recent visits to Brussels and NATO and the
implications of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration for the country and the region as a whole.
The meeting was followed by questions and lively discussion with the invited businesses.

EUGBC Members’ meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Georgia
On 11 March 2014, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia, Ms. Tamar Beruchashvili met the EUGBC members at
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. The meeting was aimed at discussing the state of EU-Georgia
Association Agreement/DCFTA. The meeting was also attended by the Director of the Department for European
Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Tea Akhvlediani and her Deputy Mr. Giorgi Kacharava.
Ms. Beruchashvili provided the representatives of the business circles with the information on the Association
Agreement and trade relations with the EU. The EUGBC Secretary General, Ambassador Zviad Chumburidze
discussed the EUGBC activities including the Georgia businessmen two day visit to Brussels in April and the
meetings they will have with the EU high officials and business circle representatives. It was agreed to have
similar meetings on a regular basis.

Meeting of EUGBC Tbilisi-based Board and Network Committee
members
On 17 March 2014, EUGBC hosted the meeting of Tbilisi-based Board and network Committee members at the
Tbilisi Office. At the meeting following issues were discussed: The program and the trip plan of the
Businessmen visit to Brussels; EUGBC Seminar on AA/DCFTA themes led by the Council of Experts to be
held in the end of April; State of negotiations with potential members, as well as member attraction
strategy, including the revision of the current membership fees.
EUGBC meeting with EU’s Chief Negotiator on DCFTA with Georgia,
Philippe Cuisson
On 26 March 2014, Philippe Cuisson, Representative of Directorate for Trade of European Commission, Chief
Negotiator on DCFTA with Georgia from EU visited EUGBC office in Tbilisi. The meeting was held on the occasion
of the International Conference “Economic Integration with the European Union Prospects and Opportunities”.

At the meeting Mr. Cuisson discussed the issues related to the EU-Georgia
Association Agreement/DCFTA together with EUGBC members – senior
representatives of the businesses in Georgia.
Zviad Chumburidze, EUGBC Secretary General opened the meeting and
welcomed the guests. Mr. Chumburidze spoke about the mission, goals and
various projects of EUGBC in particular supporting and deepening EU-Georgia
trade and economic relations.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the European Union to
Georgia, Head of the EU Delegation in Tbilisi, H.E. Philip Dimitrov, First Vice
Chairman of EUGBC Board, Badri Japaridze and Vice Chairman, David Lee. In
addition, around 15 representatives of EUGBC member businesses were
present at the meeting.
The sides spoke about importance of the Association Agreement with its
integral part – DCFTA, and stressed that the AA/DCFTA plays significant role
in EU-Georgia economic relations and notably for the development of
Georgia’s business sector.

EUGBC meetings with the Diplomatic Corps
The EUGBC Secretary General meets Greek Ambassador Eleftherios
Proios
On 16 January 2014, EUGBC Secretary General, Ambassador Zviad
Chumburidze met with the Ambassador of Greece to Georgia, H.E.
Eleftherios Proios.
The meeting was held in relation to Greece presidency of the
European Union.
During the meeting the parties discussed perspectives of the EUGeorgia partnership and the ways of close cooperation between the
Greek Embassy and EUGBC.
EUGBC meeting with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia,
Alexandra Hall Hall
On 30 January 2014, EUGBC organized the members meeting
with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia,
Alexandra Hall Hall. The meeting took place at the Embassy
of the UK in Tbilisi.
The meeting was attended by EUGBC Secretary General
Ambassador Zviad Chumburidze, Executive Director Tamar
Khuntsaria. The First Vice Chairman of EUGBC Board, Badri
Japaridze (TBC Bank), Vice Chairman, David Lee (Magticom)
and other members of EUGBC took part in the meeting.

At the meeting the parties discussed the current state of the EU-Georgia, as well as UK-Georgia relations at the
bilateral level. EUGBC Secretary General informed the Ambassador about the activities and projects of the
Council and introduced to her EUGBC members.
Madam Ambassador spoke on the importance of the Association Agreement to be signed between EU and
Georgia, and also discussed the prospects of trade and economic relations between the EU and the two countries
in particular.
Ms. Hall showed keen interest towards one of the projects of EUGBC – Economic Photo Exhibition and offered
assistance in carrying out the project in London in the end of the current year.
The parties to the meeting agreed on a regular dialogue and continuous partnership.
Working lunch with EUGBC management and Swedish businesses in
Georgia hosted by the Ambassador of Sweden to Georgia
On 3 February 2014, EUGBC management attended a working lunch hosted by
the Ambassador of Sweden to Georgia, H.E. Diana Janse at her residence in
Tbilisi.
On behalf of EUGBC Secretary General Ambassador Zviad Chumburidze,
Executive Director Tamar Khuntsaria and Advisor Valerian Gvalia attended
the meeting. Senior representatives of Swedish business operating in Georgia
also took part in the meeting.
EUGBC Secretary General informed the Ambassador and the invited guests
activities and projects of the Council. The state of the Association Agreement
and the prospect of the EU-Georgia trade were also discussed. In addition,
EUGBC and the representatives of the Swedish businesses envisaged the
possibility of the Council membership.
It was agreed that EUGBC and the Embassy of Sweden will continue active
dialogue and partnership.

EUGBC Board Members’ meeting with German Ambassador to Georgia
On 12 February 2014, the EUGBC management along with the
staff and the EUGBC Board and Network Committee members
met with the Ambassador of Germany to Georgia H.E. Mr.
Ortwin Hennig. The meeting took place at the German
Embassy premises in Tbilisi.
EUGBC Secretary General Ambassador Zviad Chumburidze
informed German Ambassador on EUGBC plans and activities
for the year 2014. Particular emphasis was made on
implemented the EUGBC project - Economic Photo Exhibition
in one of the major cities in Germany.
EUGBC members engaged in a lively and informative discussion with the Ambassador on the issues related to
EU-Georgia Association Agreement/DCFTA, Georgia’s bilateral partnership and cooperation with Germany,
issues of international political-economic developments affecting Georgia and the region, as well as activities of
the German Embassy in the country. Continuous dialogue and cooperation with EUGBC was agreed.
EUGBC meeting with the Ambassador Designate of Georgia to Bulgaria
On 14 February 2014, EUGBC hosted a meeting of Board and
Network Committee members with the Ambassador Designate
of Georgia to the Republic of Bulgaria, Zurab Beridze.
EUGBC Secretary General, Ambassador Zviad Chumburidze
chaired the meeting. He introduced Mr. Beridze to EUGBC
members and asked the Ambassador Designate to share his
views and plans related to his future service as senior Georgia
diplomat in Bulgaria.
Mr. Beridze informed EUGBC members on the date of his
departure and envisaged plans. He showed particular interest
towards the opinions and needs of Georgian businesses with
respect to Bulgarian market and potential for deepening export.
EUGBC members and Ambassador Designate agreed on further exchange of information and continuous
partnership with Mr. Beridze in his capacity as an Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Bulgaria.

EUGBC Board and Network Committee members’ meeting with the
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of
Poland to Georgia
On 27 February 2014, EUGBC Board and Network Committee members had a meeting with the Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Georgia, H. E. Mr. Andrzej Cieszkowski. The
meeting took place at EUGBC office in Tbilisi.
EUGBC Secretary General introduced EUGBC members and briefed Ambassador Cieszkowski on the Council’s
short and long term activities. Ambassador Cieszkowski on his part thanked EUGBC for inviting him at this
interesting meeting and briefly discussed the Polish-Georgian friendly relations.
The Board and Network Committee members inquired to what extent EUGBC could be involved in promoting the
economic ties between the two countries. It was agreed to further explore the options of having the EUGBC
Economic Photo Exhibition organized in Warsaw. The discussion also evolved around the issues related to EUGeorgia Association Agreement/DCFTA and the future perspectives.

EUGBC members’ meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to Georgia
On 20 March 2014, the Members of EUGBC met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Georgia, H.E.
Priit Turk. The meeting was opened by EUGBC Secretary General, Ambassador Zviad Chumburidze. He welcomed
the Ambassador and thanked him for meeting with EUGBC members at the Council’s office in Tbilisi. Mr.
Chumburidze informed Mr. Turk on the mission and activities of EUGBC. He noted the importance of bilateral
relations between Georgia and Estonia, as well as the role of Estonia in fostering EU-Georgia political and
economic cooperation.
The meeting was attended by First Vice Chairman of EUGBC Board, Badri Japaridze, Second Vice Chairman of
EUGBC Board, David Lee, Executive Director, Tamar Khuntsaria and EUGBC members.
The Estonian Ambassador thanked EUGBC for the opportunity to meet with EUGBC members – representatives
of the business community in Georgia. He discussed several important issues affecting Estonia-Georgia and EUGeorgia relations and provided information on various projects implemented by the Embassy of Estonia in
Georgia. Mr. Turk also spoke about the state and level of business relations between Georgia and Estonia and
thereby expressed willingness and hopes to have the bilateral relations intensified more in the coming years. In
addition, the Ambassador referred to the developments taking place in Ukraine and provided his views of its
possible implications for Georgia and other countries in Europe.
The Ambassador’s presentation was followed by increasing number of questions and lively discussion involving
members and invited guests. The parties agreed to continue cooperation and exchange of information on a
regular basis.

EUGBC projects
EUGBC Economic Photo Exhibition 2014-2017
One of the primary goals of EUGBC is to support business development and to foster business-to-business ties in
Georgia as well as between Georgia and the EU. There are various ways through which EUGBC pursues and plans
to further uphold the achievement of these objectives. One of the envisioned projects of EUGBC in 2014 is to
increase the visibility of the activities of business in Georgia via introducing EUGBC Economic Photo Exhibition
along with business presentations and mini-expos.
Since January 2014, EUGBC has pursued an active campaign for the Exhibition in its members as well as in a
wider business community. The Council has researched and collected photo materials covering all major
production fields in Georgia with the potential to access the EU market and/or establish partnership with the
European counterparts. The selected photos will be accompanied with a brief description of the
company/business activity.

The Exhibition will be of a permanent character with a possibility of informational renewal and modification. The
Exhibition is aimed to rotate in various European capitals and at times may also be held in Tbilisi.
EUGBC plans to inaugurate the exhibition in Tbilisi in the beginning of June 2014. Next, the Exhibition will take
place in Brussels and in other major cities in Europe.
The goals of the EUGBC Economic Photo Exhibition are to:
 Draw attention to and recognize the businesses operating in Georgia and their scope of activities;
 Provide opportunity for interested European companies and potential investors to gain insight in the
business climate and investment opportunities that Georgia offers;
 Allow Georgian businesses to introduce their production and export capacity, and envision potential
partnership among the European counterparts.
EUGBC established a permanent Council of Experts
EUGBC created the Council of Experts under the auspices of the Council, which will serve as a permanent
consultative body for business community on the major issues related to the Association Agreement and DCFTA.
The Council of Experts works under the umbrella of EUGBC and supports the Council’s educational and
awareness raising campaign for this specific project and beyond. The Council of Experts perform the following
functions:
 Prepare new EUGBC publications on the themes related to EU-Georgia trade;
 Moderate and guide EUGBC seminars/workshops;
 Engage in EUGBC’s endeavors to raise awareness of Georgian business community on the trade practices and
rules to export to the EU market;
 Help EUGBC in preparing political-economic analysis affecting the EU-Georgia trade and economic relations;
 Consult with EUGBC membership and partners on specific cases related to new regulations as a result of
AA/DCFTA.
At this stage, the Council of Experts involves four members: Mr. Kakha Gogolashvili (Georgian Foundation for
Strategic International Studies), Mrs. Lia Todua (center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia), Mr.
Vakhtang Kobaladze (Eurasia Partnership Foundation) and Mrs. Nino Chokheli (Economic Prosperity Initiative).

Visit of senior business representatives from Georgia to Brussels
In order to facilitate involvement of Georgian business community in the EU-Georgia association process and
promote active dialogue between the private sector and EU decision makers, EUGBC organizes an official mission
of the businessmen to Brussels.
Up to 15 senior business representatives from Georgia, members of EUGBC will take part in the mission.
The visit is planned to take place on 6-7 May 2014.
Official meetings of the business community are planned at the European Commission, European Parliament,
European External Action Service (EEAS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Belgium, and Business
Community. The business visit will be covered by the Georgian media.

EUGBC Permanent consultations with EU Member States’ Economic
Attaches
In order to maintain close cooperation and uphold a constant exchange of information between EUGBC and EU
Member States’ embassies accredited in Georgia, EUGBC conducts permanent consultation and meetings with
European attaches in charge of political-economic affairs at the accredited embassies in Georgia.
EUGBC management has already held meetings with the economic and political attaches of the following
diplomatic representations:
- The Delegation of the European Union to Georgia
- British Embassy in Georgia
- Embassy of Germany in Georgia
- The Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tbilisi
- Embassy of Lithuania to Georgia
This partnership also envisions familiarization of the EU embassies in Georgia with the business environment
and potential for export to the EU market. For this purpose, in the scope of this project, EUGBC offers the EU
member states’ economic officers/attaches as well as Ambassadors to visit businesses, enterprises on site and
visualize the production processes and technologies.
The next visits of European diplomats is planned to take place in at the sites of the following companies:
Natakhtari, Sarajishvili and Honey factory – Breti.

EUGBC Memorandum of Understanding with Rustavi 2
On 18 February 2014, the EUGBC Secretary General, Ambassador Zviad Chumburidze and Director General of the
Broadcasting Company “Rustavi 2” signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the
EUGBC and “Rustavi 2”. The signing ceremony took place at the EUGBC office in Tbilisi.
The Head of the EU Delegation to Georgia H.E. Ambassador Philip Dimitrov, Vice Chairman of the EUGBC Board
David Lee (Magticom), and other dignitaries attended the signing ceremony.
With the MoU EUGBC offered Rustavi 2 honorary membership in the Council. The document also defined the
cooperation framework between EUGBC and “Rustavi 2” aimed at promoting Georgia’s integration into the
European Union and developing economic relations between the countries of the European Union and Georgia.

EUGBC Memorandum of Understanding with Interpressnews
In February 2014, EUGBC signed Memorandum of Understanding with news agency - Interpressnews. The
memorandum aims at establishing cooperation between EUGBC and Interpressnews in terms of regular coverage
of the Council events and activities.

On 25 February 2014, EUGBC Secretary General,
Ambassador Zviad Chumburide participated in a TV
program “Investor” on Georgian channel TV3.
The “Investor” is a weekly TV program aimed at
discussing different investment opportunities both
in Georgia and from Georgia. The program was
targeted to discussing the Association Agreement
(AA) and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade
Agreement (DCFTA) with the European Union and
challenges those agreements may bring to Georgia.
Ambassador Chumburidze on his part reviewed the
EUGBC activities and the role it may play on the way
of implementing the DCFTA in partnership with the
public and private sectors.
Some of the EUGBC activities including establishment of the “Council of Experts” on DCFTA issues, making
publications/information bulletins, organizing exhibitions and promoting economic ties through various
activities including organizing the visits of the business representatives to European countries, etc. was also
discussed with the TV3 journalist Mrs. LelaTsiklauri.

Associations in Georgia
The EUGBC together with the Business Association of Georgia, US Chamber of Commerce in Georgia, Association
of Banks of Georgia, International Chamber of Commerce in Georgia, Georgian Employers’ Association signs the
Memorandum of Understanding.

Close cooperation with the government, society, businesses and non-governmental sector is anticipated in the
Memorandum in order to resolve the following four important issues:
 Partial de-criminalization and differentiation of tax-related offences;
 Reform of the investigation department of the Ministry of Finance;
 Development of effective mechanisms for the review of tax disputes;
 Improvement of the mechanism of tax inspection.
EUGBC Secretary General held a meeting with EBRD Director for
Caucasus, Moldova and Belarus
On 21 February 2014, EUGBC Secretary General,
Ambassador Zviad Chumburidze held a meeting with the
EBRD Director for Caucasus, Moldova and Belarus, Bruno
Balvanera.
The Meeting was of a courtesy nature. Ambassador
Chumburidze informed Mr. Balvanera about the EUGBC
activities since the office registration in Tbilisi. Ambassador
Chumburidze also briefed the EBRD team about the
upcoming activities EUGBC plans to carry out in Spring and
beginning of Summer 2014 including the Economic Photo
Exhibition and the Georgian Businessmen’s working visit to
Brussels.
Ambassador Chumburidze and Mr. Balvanera also discussed
the prospects of cooperation between the EUGBC and the
EBRD Tbilisi Office.

Cooperation between European Union and Georgia
The Association Agreement is aimed at deepening political and economic relations between the EU and Georgia.
It is based on common values and describes the gradual improvements needed in areas such as trade, the
environment, agriculture, tourism, energy, transport, and education to bring Georgia in line with EU standards.
Overall, the process is focused on democracy and the rule of law, human rights good governance, and economic
development.
The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) is the instrument used to enhance Georgia's trade and
economic growth through bringing its legislation closer to that of the EU. It will also improve remove the existing
barriers on the trade of goods and services with the EU. This will create better opportunities for Georgian
businesses – big and small – to trade with the EU, and for European businesses to invest in Georgia.
Some of the benefits to ordinary Georgians will be: higher quality locally-grown food and other goods; better
business opportunities for all, including small and medium-sized companies; more European investment into
Georgian manufacturing; increased average salaries; better access to improved health services; and energy
savings due to more efficient use of energy resources and the development of renewable energy sources.

International Conference and the Business Forum: Economic
Integration with the European Union - Prospects and Opportunities was
held in Tbilisi
International Conference and the Business Forum - "Economic Integration with the European Union – Prospects
and Opportunities" was held in Tbilisi on 27-28 March 2014.
The event was organized by the Office of the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic
Integration, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Georgian National Investment
Agency. EUGBC was one of the major partners in the business component of the Conference.

The aim of the event was to raise awareness among governments and private sectors of the EU and the Eastern
Partnership countries about Georgia's economic policy, business environment and investment opportunities,
increase visibility of successfully implemented reforms in the framework of the Deep and Comprehensive Free
Trade Area Agreement and share experience with partner countries regarding economic reforms and the
economic integration with the EU. Business Forum as integral part of the conference was held on March 28
aiming at facilitating of economic cooperation as well as business to business contacts among the EU and the
Eastern Partnership countries.
Representatives of government agencies and business community of the EU and the EaP, European Commission,
International Financial Institutions, as well as Diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia and experts on European
integration and international trade participated in the event.

Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr Irakli Gharibashivili’s official visit in
Brussels
On 3-5 February 2014, Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili paid an official visit in Brussels for talks with
EU and NATO officials.
Mr. Garibashvili and the members of his office held meetings with the President of the European Council Herman
Van Rompuy; President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso; EU Commissioner for Enlargement
and Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle; Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström and Commissioner for
Energy Günther Oettinger. PM Garibashvili also met EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on 5 February. In
addition, he participated in a meeting of the NATO-Georgia Commission and also met NATO Secretary General
Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

EU and Georgia signed Financing Agreement envisaging EUR 21 million
financial assistance to Georgia
On 4 March 2014, Alex Petriashvili - State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and
Stefan Fule – EU Commissioner on Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy signed Financing Agreement
envisaging EUR 21 million financial assistance to Georgia.
Project aims to improve efficiency, transparency and accountability of public finance policy and management in
Georgia through improving policy and institutional capacity of the Ministry of Finance, the State Audit Office and
the Budget and Finance Committee of the Parliament of Georgia by supporting the implementation of relevant
strategies, policy measures and action plans.
EUR 19 million, out of 21, through tranches, will be directed to the state budget and EUR 2 million will be used for
the Technical Assistance projects in order to enhance capacities of the abovementioned Georgian governmental
institutions.
Project – "Support to Public Finance Policy Reforms (PFPR)" will be implemented under the 2013 Annual Action
Plan of the EU-Georgia National Indicative Programme.

Commission launches negotiations with Georgia to join the Energy
Community
On 20 February 2014, the European Commission and Georgia launched negotiations for Georgia's accession to the
Energy Community.
The negotiations in Tbilisi were held in the presence of Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger, for the European
Commission and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Vice - Prime Minister as well as Minister of Energy Kakha
Kaladze, for Georgia.
By becoming Member of the Energy Community and implementing EU energy legislation Georgia will have closer
ties with EU's single energy market. This will attract investments and
Increase the financial sustainability of the energy sector.
Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger said: “Today's negotiations mark Georgia's path towards regional
integration and enhanced energy cooperation with the EU.
Joining the Energy Community will attract investments into Georgia and bring Georgian citizens and businesses
closer to the other members of the Energy Community and the European Union.
”The Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Janez Kopač said: “I am very happy that
Georgia will become a full member of the Energy Community family. The Energy Community has proven to be an
effective tool for supporting reforms in the energy sector and fostering investment.
The opening of the negotiations sends an important signal that Georgia is on its way to develop its energy markets
in a sustainable way”.
The negotiating team exchanged views on a timetable for Georgia to implement key EU rules on electricity and gas
networks, environment, renewable energy, energy efficiency, oil and on energy statistics.

SCPX official launch in Georgia
To celebrate the commencement of the giant Southern Corridor project, BP in Georgia hosted honorable guests the representatives of the Georgian government, diplomatic missions, international organizations, business and
media at the South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion Project (SCPX) Launch event at the Radisson hotel, Tbilisi, on
the 28th of February.
The Southern Corridor, one of the biggest and most complex projects in the history of energy industry, bringing
gas from Azerbaijan directly to Europe for the first time, involves constructing a huge gas network along with
expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline.
Within the framework of SCPX on the territory of Georgia, it is planned to construct two giant compressor
stations, to make 62km pipeline looping from the Azerbaijan border and 2km pipeline looping at the Turkish
border and to build a metering station at the Turkish border.

Gordon Birrell, AGT Regional President addressed the guests highlighting the global importance of the giant
project and the benefit SCPX will bring to ensure “additional gas deliveries to Georgia playing a significant role in
the energy security and diversity of energy supplies.”
“The new Southern Corridor is designed to link the Caspian resources directly with European gas markets. Not
only will it bring increased gas supplies and energy diversity to Europe but also bring benefits to all countries
along the corridor”, said Gordon in his speech.
Talking about the benefits to Georgia, Gordon added: “It is expected to bring the largest single foreign investment
of approximately $2 billion to Georgia contributing to the country’s economic development.”
The other benefits expected from the project for Georgia include approximately $400 million expenditure on
local goods and services and 2000 direct jobs at the peak of construction, with approximately 125 individuals
employed in the longer term.
Kakha Kaladze, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Georgia emphasized BP’s great role in creating
energy security for Georgia and talked about the country as a reliable and important strategic partner for
transiting energy resources.
“Georgia plays an important role in delivering the energy resources of the Caspian Sea to the markets of Turkey,
Europe and the world. Seeking the new ways and opportunities for diversification of energy supply represents
the highest priority of Georgia’s energy strategy”, Minister said.

Georgia Investment Conference in London
Recent events in Georgia, including changes in
government, regional relations and constitutional
reform, have impacted on the local investment
