C
ircus Circus Circus! Our biggest fraternal fund raiser is less than 2 months away. Billboards
are up, television ads are just starting, but our biggest and best kept secret is YOU!
You are the key to the success of our Circus.
Let’s give it your best shot to do more than you did last year. If you sold 1 book of tickets last
year, sell 2 books this year…the same with advertising. If you sold 2 ads last, year sell 3 this
year. The Circus committee has come up with a great new promotion this year- for every two
books of tickets you sell, and turn the money in by Feb 28th, your name will be put into a drawing for a $500.00 Cabela’s gift card.
Sell 10 books and turn in the money, 5 chances to win the gift card. The drawing will be Saturday night, March 22nd during Family
night under the Circus tent. Remember, every show is a children’s coupon show this year.
If you can’t tell by the little banners in the Camels’ Tales, “The Irish Are Coming” March 1, 2014. It promises to be a fun
filled evening with good food, good entertainment, and, best of all, good friends. Music by Fanfare, and a special Irish Dance
demonstration by the Clarkson School of Irish Dance. There will be free childcare available so come on out and be Irish for the night.
It’s truly a night for the wearing o’the Green, but we are asking for no denim or t-shirts.
The TCAA Mass meeting will be held March 26, 2014 in the Oasis. This is an open meeting and all nobles are encouraged to attend.
There will be NO Stated meeting in March due to the Circus
The April Shrine meeting is being dedicated to the DeMolay. I encourage everyone to come out and support our future. The DeMolay
will perform two short Ceremonies that night that is sure to impress all of us. Bring your ladies, your sons or grandsons and get ready
to catch the spirit of DeMolay. We will have a short business meeting first and then bring the ladies and kids upstairs. Since this is a
special program I am moving the Shrine meeting start time to 7 p.m.
Don’t forget the sign up for the Pigeon Forge trip May 8th-11th. A fun filled weekend with parades, pool parties, Shriners
Marketplace, Hillbilly degree, and last but not least the Kerbela Potentates Ball. I expect the bus to fill up early so don’t hesitate!
If you were unable to attend the Ireland trip presentation there is information available from the office. Just stop by, or call.
Remember, every member of Moolah is a member of our membership team. The Ceremonial on April 12th is in honor of Most
Worshipful Jon Broyles, Grand Master of Missouri. We need to fill the ballroom with new candidates! Talk to your Lodges, have a
note put in the lodge trestle board, spread the word. Let’s pull out all of the stops and make this the biggest ceremonial Moolah has
seen in the last 20 years.
Remember, we are:

Do You Have A Cold?
I
t’s that time of year. Not only for cold weather, but for catching colds. Maybe
the flu, or just an old-fashioned head cold. Fortunately there are all types of
medications to treat these maladies. So we take them, rest up, drink all sorts of juice,
tea etc. We do those things to fight off that nasty ailment. That’s what we do if we
have a “cold in the head.” But what do we do if we have a cold in our heart? What’s
to do when your heart starts to drift away from God, and God doesn’t seem as real as
He used to? Maybe we’re not as excited or passionate about Him, and He seems so
far away. We don’t pray as often, nor do we seek the Lord like we used to. And our
hearts get cold. That can happen to anybody. God doesn’t want us to live with a cold
heart toward Him. Rather, He wants us to live on fire for Him.
The question is then, “What’s the cure when your heart gets cold toward God?” I
believe one place the answer is beautifully pictured is in Ruth, chapter three. The
main characters are Naomi, Ruth and Boaz. I recommend reading Ruth; it’s only five
chapters long. Ruth could be sub-titled “God’s Amazing Grace.” Naomi, having
faith in God, realized the opportunity God had provided for her and Ruth. Both
Naomi and Ruth had opened their hearts to God. Believing that God would give
them opportunity to better themselves in their situation; they were ready when the
obvious, God-given opportunity came. Boaz marries Ruth and thus continues the
Genealogy from Abraham, thru King David to Jesus. Ruth boldly took action. Herein
lies a good definition of faith – “Faith is action based on the certainty of what God
will do.” Hebrews 11:1 says “To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to
be certain of the things we cannot see.” David’s Psalm 37 vs. 4. “Delight yourself in
the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”
God is speaking to us today about how He wants to improve our situation. May we
open our hearts and hear what He has to say. He is presenting us with opportunity
to better our life. Let us claim this God-given opportunity; respond with appropriate
action; and experience that which God has placed on our hearts come to pass.
We do not lose the ones we love
They only go before
Where there is everlasting life
Where sorrow is no more...
And there the soul will always live
And peace is everywhere.
We do not lose the ones we love
God takes them in His care.

February Shriner of the Month
Tony Leech
Larry D. Stringer
Larry N. Winfrey
ony Leech has been a member of Moolah for over 34 years.
T
Within that short time has made the "Little Yellow Cars" and
well known name in St. Louis. Tony has been the Captain of the
Mini Patrol since 1994 and on an average appears in over 130
parades and events each year. Tony has been in approximately
1600 public appearances at parades and other events since
he joined the Shrine. Tony is a Past Master from Ferguson Berkeley Lodge #542 and has served on the Speakers Bureau,
Order of the Q and is a honorary member of Kerbela Shrine
Temple in Knoxville, TN.
Tony is always there to helping others and our Shriners
Hospitals for Children. If you ever call him, he will answer his
phone by saying "How Can I Serve You Better". With a humble
heart and his wonderful smile, Tony Leech always seems to be there rain or shine to help our
kids at Shriners Hospitals. It seems appropriate to have Tony as our Shriner of the month for
February since it's the month with hearts.

HOSPITAL PATIENT PARTY
entlemen, the Patient Party on Sunday December 22nd was an incredible event. We are all blessed with a desire to give back, and
as Shriners we do so. The 22nd was different, we got back much more than we gave. The success of the day was measured by the
smiles and thanks given us by all the patients, their brothers and sisters and parents. Incredible! We as Nobles should be proud of the
effort to enable the idea of a Patient Party to bare fruit. We want to thank each and everyone of you that came out to volunteer your
time on Sunday the 22nd, to make the first Shrine Patient Party the success that it was.
And a special thanks to our Ladies for supporting our mission.
G
Here are couple messages from Parents:
I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for the wonderful event yesterday! My kids had so much fun! The most amazing thing was
when we went to the craft table to make the necklace and Olivia was stringing beads onto the necklace, which she never could have
done without the surgeries she has had at Shriners by Dr. Goldfarb! I of course started crying as I watched her pick up each bead
and add it to the necklace. I can never thank the Shriners for all the work they do to enable my kids to be able to do daily tasks most
people take for granted! And thank you for all the work you do! You are such an asset to the hospital!
Thank you!
Tess Tippetts
Thank you for the most amazing party ever! It was our daughter's first Christmas party since she generally does not tolerate large
groups and noise. She loved it! You guys are so generous!
And from a patient:
Nobles, Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!
God Bless and Happy New Year

ime for Dinner!!! Bring your better half
and call it “Date Night”. Or you can
make up your own excuse! It really doesn’t
matter to us what excuse you use - we just
want you and your Lady to come and join
the fun and fellowship. Our next dinner
meeting is Thursday, February 27th at JJ’s
Restaurant in O’Fallon. We arrive around
6:00 for dinner, and order off the menu and
have separate checks. After dinner (around

Whether you are a member of Daniel Boone,

you and your Lady to come out and join us

you to join or pay dues, we just want you to
come out and give us a try. We’ll make sure
that you and your Lady are greeted when you
arrive and that you’ll always feel welcome.
If you want to join us for one of our dinners

your Lady will have a great time!

you all. I also want to congratulate Noble
Jack Kairy for a successful 2013 and for his
leadership and guidance and I look forward
working with him and all the Nobles this

We have a very busy year ahead of us and

our year of events and parades. I encourage
everyone to make their RSVP early for the

of the Divan travelled to Swampeast,
Missouri and installed our 2014 Officers in
grand style. It is always great to enjoy the
company of our Northern friends and expose
them to our Southern ways. President Travis
and Sarah Phillips have many great plans for
the year but they can’t do it alone. Officer
McDonut and Stephanie want to thank each
of you for the fantastic support in their year.
Congratulations Shawn Hanley TRSC 2013
Shriner of the year.
We have started a new year and it is time
to get back into the spirit of lending a hand
to pay the bills at our 22 hospitals. it is sad
to look at the photos of our past presidents
and see who is not in the meetings. Past
presidents- you could not have done it
without the support of the membership
and neither can Travis and Sarah. Put your
individual difference on the back shelf and
join us in the fun. We have a wonderful
new hospital being built in St. Louis on US
40/60, or I-64.
In addition to the upcoming events at Three
Rivers, don’t forget the fun going on at
Moolah Shrine and the Shrine Circus in
March. Two years ago Papa Dortch asked
Josh Russom “Just how stupid can you be?”,
and Josh has been trying to show him ever
since!
We don’t do it for the thanks, we don’t do
it for the publicity, we do it because we
care and we want to make a difference.
Don’t ever doubt that we are not making a
difference or just visit the hospital with me.
Wear your Fez with pride and dignity, and
pay it forward. God bless.

Hello, from your Moolah Band:
W
e had a great time playing for the
monthly meeting and the party for the
kids from the hospital December 22. Thanks
to the Chanters with whom we shared the
stage, and who did a fine job. We also had
a great time at our Holiday Party at Pietro’s
on Watson.
With the new music we now have selections
that are more fun to play and also more
enjoyable to our listeners. The selections
include a 70’s arrangement of “Downtown”
and also “Basin Street Blues”. I am sure I
can find a few more interesting numbers to
challenge our members.
We are still in need of flutes and clarinets to
play more difficult music that our audiences
will recognize and like.
If you have played in the past and want to be
of service to Moolah Temple and our kids, as
well as the many seniors at our concerts,
we would love to have you as part of the
Moolah Shriners Community Band. We
invite your children or grandchildren who
have played for at least a year to join us also.
It’s a great opportunity for them to continue
playing during summer break, and receive
tutoring and experience from very fine
musicians.
Sadly, I must report that one of our longtime members, Alto Saxophonist Art Lander
passed away in December. He was faithful in
helping us until recently when his health
began failing. Also, a former member, Larry
Walton passed away this past summer.
We meet Wednesday evenings at 7:30 to
practice. Our concerts are mainly Wednesday
nights at 7:00, and on some Tuesdays.
We always leave ‘em smiling!

ttention Nobles, this is that month those units which
have not yet presented their officers, will present those
of their reelected and new officers to their Units service. It is
incumbent upon those of us who have served, to guide the new
officers as we were guided by our predecessors. Thus our Units
prosper and improve substantially.
A
It is this writer's opinion that having served as our Units’
President and having studied the capabilities of our new
President, Noble Bill Bradford, that if the body cooperates with
him as they did with me, that this year will be a banner year for
the Chanters.
With the splendid guidance of our President Noble Bill
Bradford, the enterprising leader of our Unit, and Noble Dr.
Tom Cupples our baton wielding director, skillfully conducting
our chorus and Noble William Triplett lending his musical
talents to the piano, this Unit can be expected to produce that
music about which all Moolah will be proud.
With this crew at the helm we can be expected to be many times
better than our previous best!
Can you remember what were called “The Good Old Days”?
Each of us has their own version which we adjust as memory
serves. Some remembrances are inaccurate and some are
shaded if by recalling them as we wished they had happened.

he Clowns had a busy holiday season with many events
. There was always great participation by our members at
these different venues. With so many clowns appearing at these
functions shows how greatful we are to be able to do what we
love to help out our children at the hospital.
T
This month also did not slow down for the unit. Flattire (Scott
Wright) not only held his first meeting but also the holiday
party at Lombardo's at Union Station. Everybody had a great
time. The results are not yet back from the FDA but Terry
Aaron's (Chopper) first meal for the unit turned out to be pretty
good for a first timer. Congrats to Tom Dolan (Merlin) winning
the 5K race downtown across the new Veterans (Musial)
Bridge. His 13.24 was the top time for the 45-50 year olds and
broke the record for any 5k run in St. Louis for his age group.
Now if the rest of us could get in shape like him.
The Variety show was great thanks to the hard work of Jay
Traxel (Splatter), Dave Brannon (Taterbug) and Dave Hartwig
(Buckles). A lot of new acts added to the fun for everyone
there. The RV show and Home show were well attended by
a lot of balloon blowing clowns who had a lot of fun with
children at these events.
Impossible you say? Nothing is impossible when you work for
the circus!
Memories of good deeds we planned to do for the Shrine
Hospital are things we’d like to have done. We Chanters do
our best to look back and say we did all we could. That’s our
purpose, our aim to do our best for our kids so that our good old
days are remembered with a sense of pride.
Here’s to our kids – our purpose as Shriners.
God Bless them and God bless you for what you do for them.

anuary 25th was our joint Presentation of Officers, along with
the Moolah Guides. A great time was had by all; which I am
sure the open bar might have had a little bit to do with that. The
connection between our Units continues to grow stronger, and
that is a testament to the power of our Fraternity.
We are quickly selling out of our Four Star Dining raffle
tickets! If you’d like a 1/200 chance to score FIVE $100 gift
cards to some of the best dining in the area, find a member of
the Directors Staff soon, and pick up a few. They’re incredibly
affordable, at just $10 each.
With fezzes over our hearts, and heads hung low, we honor one
of our esteemed Brethren, and a Past Director (1987 – 1999),
Brother Fred Sandegren. Fred moved to Florida, after resigning
from Moolah Temple. (The current author has no information
which Temple he was affiliated with, in Florida.) He mounted
the Black Camel in mid-December of 2013, and we fondly honor
him, knowing one day, we will meet him at that final Oasis.
Upcoming Events:
Saturday, March 8th - Circus Parade Kick-Off in scenic
Downtown St. Charles. We’ll be out in full effect on those zany,
death-trap bicycles!
Thursday, March 20th - Sunday, March 23rd - CIRCUS! Let’s

Happy New Year to all! We now make the transition from 2013 to
2014. All newly elected officers are now in their respective offices.
Having had a successful year with membership in the growth of our
Temple and successful growth in revenue will give the officers and
members a new goal to work toward. Our elected 2014 Potentate
is making his plans for another successful year; this is the time to
join together to make this a reality. The Ambassadors are a group

t was an exciting time to have our Grand High Priestess, Lady Jan
visit us in December. During her visit we initiated our 75+ member,
therefore reaching permanent charter status. Our permanent charter will
be presented to us during the 100th Grand Council in May. I am very
proud of our Ladies for reaching this milestone and welcome our new
members.
While in St. Louis, Lady Jan and various
L.O.S. members were given the privilege
of a construction tour of the New St. Louis
Shriners Hospital for Children. Although it
was very cold that day, seeing the progress
and hearing the plans of the hospital
was a wonderful experience. Thanks to
Suzan Bland and the entire SM Wilson &
Company.
We are always looking for volunteers to help with our Tuesday night
Swing Club Dance. Nailah provides food service during the event and
it’s a great time to watch the Swing Dancers in action. Please contact
Colette Nagel at [email protected] for more information and to
sign up.
Join us for our Carnevale style Mardi Gras Ball on Friday, February
21, 2014 at Andres, hosted by K-HITS on-air personality Mark Klose.
It will be a fun night of dinner, dancing, entertainment and more all
to support our Annual Charity Project. For more information: Angela
Langford 618-698-4880.

e are now well into 2014 and Sydyk
Temple #107 has had much excitement
in spite of the terrible weather. Our Supreme
Queen Margaret Ann Risk visited us all the
way from Fort Worth Texas. She was such
a delight and absolutely thrilled over the
snow. (Our members weren’t as thrilled over
the bad weather. Probably because we get
an overdose and she never sees it at home.)
However, in spite of the weather, we had the
most wonderful visit with the Supreme Queen
at Shriner’s Hospital. She was so wonderful
with the children, doctors, and nurses,
everyone loved her. A delicious luncheon
was also served and we had a chance to meet
several of the patients. We also learned much
about the new hospital, so if you want to
visit the current facility, you will have to do
it quickly, because by the end of the year,
there will be no more tours. Princess Royal’s
Supreme Queen will be the last one to visit
the Lindbergh facility.
The next day we had our official visit. Nerves
reigned, but the Supreme Queen put everyone
at ease and the day went very smoothly and
shortly it was time for the banquet in the
Supreme Queen’s honor. Princess Royal
planned a lovely dinner served by Bethel #43.
Many important quests attended, even Past
Illustrious Sir Patrick Hensley, Past Potentate
of Moolah Temple.
We are now on the verge of planning a new
year for Sydyk Temple. Princess Royal is
busy making plans and hopes all of you will
plan to attend all the events, starting with
the installation on March 9th. If you don’t
belong, petitions are always available. Just
talk to any of the Nile Ladies.
Here is hoping that the weather improves, so
we can get together again real soon.

Christmas Gift Giving--Grace made another unique Christmas Pin
for each one of us and Verna made a set of twelve Plastic Canvas
Coasters (one for each month) in a neat container. Thank you,
Grace and Verna, you are the Greatest! Also, the Wine served
by John, Bob and Rich and the Appetizers were another Gift we
enjoyed.
oble Lodge continues to be busy with degree work. You are
invited to attend our Tuesday, February 4th and Tuesday,
February 18th meetings. Plans are being made for a Chance-ToAdvance Class before the Ceremonial, so if you have a potential
candidate and would like for him to be a Master Mason before the
Spring Ceremonial, now is the time to get him started.
Keep in mind if you have a candidate. It all starts with you
submitting the petition for your candidate (you can use the copy
in the Camels' Tales). The petition will be received at our next
meeting, and your candidate will be notified. In most cases he will
be invited to attend the next meeting, meet with the investigating
committee, and then his EA degree will be scheduled.
ur Temple Club Christmas/Installation Meeting was another
Big Hit on our list of many. Dorothy, Janice, Caroline and
Anna put their expertise to work, and we enjoyed their Christmas
decorations. Thanks to Jeanne Smith, Ellie Sopp and Debbie
Rethmeyer for sharing today with us.
Soon it was time to get down to business and Michelle introduced
her husband, our Potentate. Pres. Verna presented Patrick with a
check for $300.00 and Gloria presented a check for $550.00, from
her year, both for the Transportation Fund.
If you’re in the area, Noble Lodge will be sponsoring a MOCHIP
program at Ronnie’s Cine on Saturday, March 22nd from Noon to
5 PM. Bring the kids or grandkids and get them chipped!
After Michelle and Verna made their Introductions, Sandy
proceeded with the Installation.
If you have any questions, contact the Master or Secretary from
the information listed above.
Rosa introduced Gloria, Secretary
Toni introduced Janice, Treasurer
Caroline introduced Anna, Vice President
Louise and Jeanette introduced Mary, President
Verna presented the retiring Officers with a beautiful Rose, Pins
and Keys were exchanged and Michelle gave her Honorary
President's Pin to Kathy Kelley. Mary expressed her Thanks for
all sharing the day with her and announced the new Committee
Chairpersons.
After another delicious Luncheon, we were happy to pick up our
Goodies from the vast array we had for our Bake Sale. Shirley and
Judy were going bonkers calling for more tables to display all of
the delicious Bakery Items our Members brought.
So THANKS to Everyone for another terrific, awesome year of
our Temple Club. It was WONDERFU!
