Take the Journey! Join us to uncharted territory where you will begin to understand that obedience to God can lead you beyond the expected. So toss the map, stick J u n e close to your guide, and prepare to listen to God’s direction in this journey that is unknown to us, but known by Him. June 21 - 25 VBS SCRIPTURE Isaiah 30:21 And whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.” (HCSB) 5 - 8 p.m. 2 0 1 5 First Baptist Lynn Haven From the Desk of Pastor Tom... As most of you are aware the church voted in our May Business Conference to proceed with the new children’s building. The vote was overwhelmingly in support of the project. Thank you for your participation in the decision making process in this matter. Over the next couple of months our Budget Committee will be looking into the financial aspects of the project including financing and fund raising. The Nominating Committee will be selecting nominees for a Building Committee. Also, the architect will be working on the more detailed drawings of the building. As soon as the items are ready for presentation there will be a called Business Conference for phase II to be presented to the membership. While we are waiting for that Business Conference there are things that we can do to aide the process. First and foremost we can pray. For this project to come to fruition it must be bathed in prayer. We believe that God has called us to do this and we must have His help. We cannot do this in the flesh. Second we need to give. We have about twenty five percent of the needed funds in the bank but that means we still need to raise the last seventy five percent. We can start now giving to the project. Everyone can do something and everyone needs to do something! Finally we need to do our part in promoting this project to the membership. As our presentation at the Business Conference revealed, everyone gets to benefit from the project not just children. So help build momentum that will make this project successful. I know that you will do that! Summer is here and that means that VBS is at the door. We had great success in recruiting leader and workers. Thank you!!! The preparations have been made and now we need to get the children here to experience a wonderful week of fun learning about Jesus. The dates are Sunday night June 21 through Thursday night June 25. Bring your children and grandchildren, invite you neighborhood kids and pray for God to bring children to experience His love. I know you will do that! Also, please mark you calendars for June 7 at 6:00 p.m. That is the night that we will be ordaining Daniel McNeill to the Gospel Ministry. Daniel and Crystal are a very special part of the ministry here and we want to show our love and support for them by being present for this special event in their life and ministry. I know you will do that! Thank you for your kind expressions of love and support for us! You are very special to us and we are grateful that our Lord allows us to serve you through His church. May the Lord bless you for being such a blessing! I know that He will do that! In Christ, Pastor Tom First Baptist Lynn Haven Volume 22 Issue 6 June 2015 T he last several weeks we have been sharing with the students their biblical role in evangelism. As believers this is a command not an option (Matthew 28:19). Evangelism is not, contrary to popular belief in Christian circles just for pastors and staff (although they do have a special calling) but rather a role that all believers must partake (Psalm 145:10-12). It is critical for our spiritual growth because without it we do not witness first hand the power of God and His message of salvation. If we never share the “Good News” then we miss much of God’s blessing in this life and eternity. Witnessing or evangelism is important because Jesus demonstrated it and taught His disciples to do the very same (1 John 1:1-3). Our motivation for witnessing or evangelism is empowered by the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8), has been, and is still today directly proportional to persecution (Acts 11:19-21), can only be accomplished when God opens the door despite the adversary (1 Corinthians 16:9), and should be carried out in confidence (Romans 1:1617). Our approaches to 2015 VBS "Journey Off the Map" – Unknown To Us, Known To Him Take the journey! This summer, take your kids to uncharted territory where they will begin to understand that obedience to God can lead them beyond the expected. So, toss the map, stick close to your guide, and prepare to listen for God’s direction in this journey that is unknown to us, but known by Him. Mark your calendars: June 21st-25th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. evangelism should not be limited. We need to witness in our homes and to our family (Mark 5:18-19), to individuals (Acts 8:30-35), to assembled groups (Acts 5:42). The methods we use to evangelize and witness include: sharing our personal testimony (Acts 22:3-8), explaining the scriptures (Acts 17:1-3), answering questions (Colossians 4:6), holy living (Matthew 5:16), and acts of devotion (Luke 7:36-38). Finally, this all needs to be conducted with urgency (2 Corinthians 5:20), fearlessly (Ephesians 6:1920), and clearly with love (1 Peter 3:15). Answer the call and obey the command today, share the Good News of Jesus Christ without delay! See you Sunday and ask you neighbor to come hear the Gospel preached. Leanne Krohne Children’s Minister What a privilege it is to proceed with the plans of building the new children’s building here at FBCLH! God is good and He provides! Not long after the Business Meeting where 98% of the vote was “yes” to go to the next phase in the building project I came across the verse: “Tell the children of Israel to go forward.” (Ex 14:15) They had the Red Sea in front of them and a not so happy Pharaoh and his chariots behind them, and then Moses said, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation He will provide for you today…The Lord will fight for you…and the Lord said to Moses, tell the children of Israel to go forward” (Ex14: 13-15). What a change in faith and trust that must have been for the Israelites. They had to obey to receive His promise. Dealing with change isn’t always easy but we can focus on its long-term benefits instead of its short-term inconvenience. We can be honest with ourselves about what we really feel and fear about the change, and take it to God in prayer. Don’t be dismayed by unyielding thinkers, keep an open attitude towards new ideas, and stand on this scripture: “Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not spare; lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. For you shall expand to the right and to the left” (Isa 54:2-3) On another note I want to share with you about some young Marines that I knew: Lcpl Andrew Kilpela, Lcpl Mario Castillo and my good bud Cpl. Jesse Jaime. Kilpela & Castillo were KIA June 10, 2005 and Jaime on June 15, 2005. That has been 10 years ago since we were together in Iraq. None of us were over 23 at the time. With Memorial Day behind us and Independence Days in front of us this can especially be a hard time for their family. Let’s say a special prayer for their family as they go through out this month. I John 3:1 NIV A Dad is a person who is loving and kind, And often he knows what you have on your mind. He’s someone who listens, suggests, and defends. A dad can be one of your very best friends! He’s proud of your triumphs, but when things go wrong, A dad can be patient and helpful and strong In all that they do, a dad’s love plays a part. There’s always a place for him deep in your heart. And each year that passes, you’re even more glad, More grateful and proud just to call him your dad!
