Will I need to purchase a new school uniform if my child only attends a school for a year? A. No. This issue has been discussed with all area schools, and there is agreement that new uniforms will not need to be purchased until the transition period has been completed and children are in a ‘permanent’ school place e.g. when they start an area primary school, or when they progress to secondary school. Q. How will my child get to their new school? A. Transport will be provided in line with current policy. Transport will not be means tested, and full details of Northamptonshire County Council’s transport arrangements and School Transport Policy can be found at: www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/en/councilservices/educationsandlearning/parentss/travel/pages/HtoS.aspx Q. How will Northamptonshire County Council ensure a successful transition? A. Since April 2014, Northamptonshire County Council has been working very closely with the East Northants Chair of Governors Group, which represents all schools affected by the transition, to ensure they have the resources and support they need during this transition period. Area schools and the county council will continue to work closely together to achieve the same goal: coordinated change in all area schools to achieve improved educational outcomes. This work is coordinated in a Transition Plan which has the support and engagement of the schools. Q. How will Northamptonshire County Council be supporting lower schools through the transition to Q. becoming primary schools? A. The transition plan that is in place has provision for extensive staff development at Key Stage 2. There will be a continuing dialogue with schools to ensure there are sufficient resources and support as they take on additional year groups. It is our intention that external bench marking and moderation is undertaken to establish current levels of attainment. This will allow progress to be monitored throughout the transition process. Head teachers in the area are aware that school-based, staff development will be necessary, as will other cluster-based activities, organized through the area head’s group. Q. Will schools be making any changes to their existing admissions arrangements? A. School admissions arrangements will work in much the same way as they did before the transition period. No school is planning to change its admissions arrangements or over subscription criteria as a result of the transition. As a result of the closure of the area’s middle schools, though, some pupils will be applying for school places at a different time. The key dates relating to the admissions process (e.g. deadline for applications, National Allocation Day etc.) will be published in exactly the same way as they have been in previous years, and parents will follow the same procedures for applying for a school places. Admissions arrangements for 2015/16 will be published soon. Q. Will my child be guaranteed a place at Prince William School? A. We are confident that within a current published admission number (PAN) of 280, all of the children within the current linked area will be accommodated in the school. In addition, we have made a commitment that all of the children currently in the two middle schools will be offered a place at Prince William School if they apply. More FAQ can be found at http://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/ en/councilservices/council/consultations/pages/register.aspx The Transition to Primary and Secondary Education The proposal to re-structure the system of education requires Northamptonshire County Council to follow a statutory process.
