WORDS FROM MSGR.SCHEYD
A Community of Faith...
The events of the past few weeks have gathered our parish
together in both sacred and secular celebrations which were
carried out with great care and love by all involved. Holy Week
is always a time of renewal. Having spent 40 days of Lenten
observance in preparation for the Sacred Triduum, we embrace
these events not as past historical happenings, but as they
really are, moments in time that never stop living and bringing
meaning to our daily lives. How can our hearts not be lifted by
the promise given to us by the empty tomb and the words
spoken to the crucified thief, “This day you will be with Me in
paradise.” Jesus, remember me when you come into your
kingdom.
Two weeks before Holy Week, many of us gathered at the
Water’s Edge in Darien for our parish gala. This evening is now
a part of the fabric of our parish life where we gather as a caring
community to exchange good news and hope filled words with
those who share our dreams and help us to make life a little
more joyful for ourselves and others. Jesus frequently
celebrated with His friends gathered around good food.
To all who made Holy Week and our parish gala times to
remember, thank you. Thom Marino and his many talented
folks and Denise Luccarelli and her very energetic group of
volunteers have been a special blessing for all of us. The parish
clergy and staff contribute much time and support making these
events a blessing for all. To everyone who joined us to pray
and to play, may our days in this life bring all of us to the
heavenly banquet where love never fails and joy is overflowing.
We Walk By Faith!

We ask that you prayerfully consider supporting the Annual Catholic Appeal. We
are currently in the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, declared by Pope Francis. Our
Holy Father tells us, “Jesus asks us . . . to be instruments of mercy because it was
we who first received mercy from God. To be generous with others, knowing that
God showers his goodness upon us with immense generosity.” Mercy is our mission as
Catholic Christians. Through your sacrificial generosity to the Annual Catholic Appeal, you
extend a helping hand of love to our brothers and sisters in need! More information on how

U. S. Tour of Peace:
The tour of the world-famous International
Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Fatima is a
nation-wide call to prayer and penance for
peace in our nation and conversion of hearts
and is coming to our diocese. The worldfamous International Pilgrim Virgin Statue (IPVS) of Fatima is
one of two “twin” statues sculpted in 1947 and reflects the
precise instructions of Sister Lucia. Her desire was that the
pilgrim image represent Our Lady’s position when she revealed
herself as the Immaculate Heart to the Shepherds in 1917.
