ANNOUNCEMENTS MEGHAN CHASSE AND KYLE GALLO SISTER PARISH UPDATE From Msgr Philippe , Zoranje, Haiti My Dear friends of St Patrick-St Anthony, Here at St Genevieve, Zoranje, we feel a holy joy seeing the work of our new church progressing day by day. Our sister Frances D’Amico came to celebrate our patroness feast with us on January 25th. What a delight. In the second week of Lent let’s allow the Holy Scriptures to shape our behavior. Through the cross of Jesus, the innocent, we foresee the great joy of Easter morning, the greatest one that any human being can experience. In Zoranje, it’s still dry. No rainfalls yet. Peasants are preparing their fields filled with hope. God will send to us water from above so that we can have a better harvest this year. Every Sunday as we gather for a big Eucharistic celebration we pray for you, your pastor, your family members and friends. May Jesus allow us to follow him until the Easter victory. ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL Thank you to the parish families who have made a gift or pledge commitment to the 2015 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. If you have not yet had the opportunity, please consider prayerfully supporting the many Good Works of the Archdiocese. Every gift will be gratefully received and sincerely appreciated. FOSTERING RELATIONSHIPS WITH GOD The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Program allows people to grow closer to God through their relationship with Jesus Christ. Such a relationship is the strongest possible foundation for life-long spiritual growth and moral living. This happens through the ‘training’ of adults who might or might not later choose to share their faith with children. If you have children, maybe you desire to help your child get to know and love this new-born babe that became our Savior, Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd. Possibly you desire this for your grandchild, niece or nephew. Perhaps you’re the parent of an infant or toddler who will soon be asking difficult questions of you about God and Church. Maybe you have no clue why you might consider the course. Participation in the training does not require you to commit to being a facilitator in the Atrium with children, but it will change your understanding of Scripture and Liturgy. Participants express that they grow much deeper in their faith after having participated in a course. The foundational course, Level I, will be June 812th. Watch for the brochure describing course details, or call/email Deb Pelletier or Carol Hanlon 860756-4034; [email protected] now for more information. Dear Parishioners and Friends at St. Patrick-St. Anthony and St. Genevieve, May the Lord give you peace. Let me begin by thanking everyone for participating in the Basket Bazaar coordinated by our Ladies Guild, for sharing in the Garlic and Gaelic Dinner prepared by House of Bread and served by our Confirmation Candidates, and our dancers from Mulcahy Academy of Irish Dance and Griffith Academy. It was a great event and the gathering of the community was, as always, spectacular. I thank you. We continue our thanks as we congratulate Sal and Karen Randazzo who received the St. Joseph Medal last week at the Cathedral. Their tireless work on behalf of the Franciscan Center has been a great gift to all of us. I thank you. We also give thanks this weekend and present the Francis Medal to: Denis Geary in gratitude for his many years as our sacristan; Ray Hardman in gratitude for his serving as cantor, director of the Bass Clef Choir, and participation in our Gallery Choir; Vincent Loffredo for his developing and implementing the Saturday Mentor’s Program. Countless parishioners as well as youth from surrounding neighborhoods through House of Bread have been blessed to participate in this program. These presentations will take place at the beginning of the 5 PM Mass on Palm Sunday. This is Holy Week and our opportunity to be even more grounded in the grace of our transformation. I invite, encourage, urge you to participate in as much of the experience as is possible. As you know, we begin with our shared meal and reflection on Holy Thursday. I hope you can join us. The solemn service of Good Friday is an invitation to contemplate the gift of Jesus’ total surrender to his mission and love for humanity. The Easter Vigil is our opportunity to not only remember the Resurrection of Jesus but also to recall our own being raised with him to new and abundant life. The whole season of Easter is an opportunity to recall the grace of the waters of baptism for all of us. I thank you for all you do to make this community a place of grace and welcome. Finally, on Easter Sunday we will host many people who come to us each year for this celebration. Some are visiting family, some return just for the opportunity to gather with us, some have ● Our Easter Vigil celebration is soon upon us! There will be a reception following the Easter Vigil Mass. Please consider helping to set up and/or clean-up for this reception. If you are interested in helping, please contact Trudi in the Volunteer Ministry office. ● Did you know that we collect frozen meatloaves for the House of Bread every 2nd Sunday of the month? Would you like Chef Sebastian’s recipe? Bring your meatloaf on April 13 and leave it in the cooler in the back of the church. 1 tablespoon good olive oil 3 cups chopped yellow onions (3 onions) 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves 2 teaspoons kosher salt 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 1/3 cup canned chicken stock or broth 1 tablespoon tomato paste 2 1/2 pounds ground chuck (81 percent lean) 1/2 cup plain dry bread crumbs (recommended: Progresso) 2 extra-large eggs, beaten 1/2 cup ketchup (recommended: Heinz) Directions: Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Heat the olive oil in a medium sauté pan. Add the onions, thyme, salt, and pepper and cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for 8 to 10 minutes, until the onions are translucent but not brown. Off the heat, add the Worcestershire sauce, chicken stock, and tomato paste. Allow to cool slightly. In a large bowl, combine the ground chuck, onion mixture, bread crumbs, and eggs, and mix lightly with a fork. Don't mash or the meat loaf will be dense. Shape the mixture into a rectangular loaf on a sheet pan covered with parchment paper. Spread the ketchup evenly on top. Bake for 1 to 1 1/4 hours, until the internal temperature is 160 degrees F and the meat loaf is cooked through. (A pan of hot water in the oven, under the meat loaf, will keep the top from cracking.)
