SISTER PARISH UPDATE
On Sunday, January 25, Fran Rago, one of the
travelers from the October 2014 trip to Haiti
gave a reflection of his experience in a poem
that he wrote. This and Fran’s two other poems
are available on the parish website (go to
Community Outreach, then Our Partners where
you’ll find St. Genevieve).
There are some current pictures of the new church
construction in Fouji, Zoranje. You can find them on the
bulletin board at the back of our church, on the St.
Patrick-St. Anthony Facebook page, or on the St.
Patrick-St. Anthony website.
The next trip to Haiti will be April 13-20. There will be an
opportunity to see the progress of the new church
construction. Call the parish office for more information

Pope Francis seems to have a consistent message:
“Courageously share your faith in seeking out the poor
and sinners.” It sounds so much like the message of
Jesus in the Gospels and fortunately, like Jesus, Pope
Francis practices what he preaches! How can we, the
average and sometimes limited members of the Body of
Christ, bring the message of God’s love to the poor and
sinners? What resources do we have to make the
Gospels come alive in our family and among our friends,
but even more, in our broken world? Come to listen and
dialogue with Fr. David about the “whys” and “hows” of
these important questions that our Pope has raised.

Dear Parishioners and Friends at
St. Patrick-St. Anthony and St. Genevieve,
May the Lord give you peace.
We have begun our annual pilgrimage as we were marked
with ashes. While the ashes recall for some our need of
repentance, they are also a sign of the sacred nature of our
journey. We are invited to enter even more deeply into the
experience of God and within that experience to be changed
forever. We do not simply enter into the journey and survive 40
days of penance for its own sake. We enter into this pilgrimage
together that we might all be renewed in the life of the Gospel.
This is not about playing a game for the season and then
returning to our former ways of being but rather about entering
into the mystery of the dying and rising with Christ that we
might truly affirm our belief in resurrection and the gift of God’s
Spirit animating our lives.
So our talk is not of sin, it is not about giving up, it is not
about any sacrifice that is not a freely chosen gift. Our talk is of
grace, receiving life, and shared gift. What we begin again this
Lent let us continue as a life choice in compassion.
In the last two weeks we have been shocked by the deaths of the
Muslim students in North Carolina, the Jewish attendees at a
Free Speech Rally in Denmark, and the Coptic Christians on a
Libyan beach. These deaths and so many more reflect a culture of
violence and fear that is contrary to our understanding of the
Gospel. We struggle with the injunction of Jesus to “love your
enemies” in the face of such atrocities. Yet it is our earnest desire
to live the Gospel. Perhaps this year’s pilgrimage might be for us
a discovery of our desire for peace, our desire to live free of fear.
Our work for peace is personal, communal and global. Our
freedom from fear is the gift of a life of compassion. We are
called to a change of heart in this pilgrimage into the experience
of God. I invite you to a time of prayer. Our prayer simply is to
allow ourselves to be in God’s presence grieving with God the
fear that perpetuates the violence in our world, rejoicing with
God in the goodness of so many who continue to share their gifts
in a broken world. Peace is the constant greeting of the Risen
Christ, may it be our way of life as well.
I invite you to join us on Monday evenings, if only
throughout Lent, for a time of communal prayer at 6 PM in our
Chapel. Our intention is Peace.
Finally in conjunction with the wishes of Archbishop Blair,
we will be available for Confessions following the prayer service
on Mondays in Lent until 7 PM. This is a time of healing for all.
While this is a time of healing for those who come, it is also
important to ask your forgiveness of the church for the ways of
estrangement - for choosing rules over compassion, for the abuse
of children and vulnerable adults, for “imposing on people
burdens hard to carry, but not lifting a finger to touch them,” (Lk
11:46) for placing the law over the Gospel. For these and for any
other experiences of violence that you may have experienced by
the church, I ask your forgiveness.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
The waters of Baptism make us part of the new covenant
in Christ. The Bishops’ pastoral letter on stewardship
reminds us that “there is a fundamental obligation
arising from the sacrament of Baptism...that people
place their gifts, their resources – their selves – at God’s
service – in and through the Church.”
LIVING STEWARDSHIP
We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish
whose giving – whether of alms, time or service – will be
an expression of gratitude for what the Father has given
them.

Are You Separated or Divorced? Our ‘New Life’
Program may be for you.
Parishioners Stacie Mawson and Catherine Posteraro will
facilitate a ten week program here at St. Patrick-St.
Anthony’s for separated and divorced persons. The
program, New Life, is designed for those who are in the
stages of separation or divorce. It seeks to provide a
“safe place” to examine stresses that have or are being
coped with as well as to gain a wider perspective on the
whole experience. Some of the topics to be addressed in
these sessions include self-image, stress, anger, blame
and guilt, loneliness and how to move toward growth.
The first session will be held in the Franciscan Center on
Thursday, March 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sessions
thereafter will run weekly on Thursday nights until May
21 (except for Holy Thursday on April 2). To register
please call the Parish Office at 860-756-4034. (You may
provide only your first name if you wish.) The book to be
used is provided free of charge. A minimum of five signups is needed.

THE SECULAR FRANCISCAN ORDER MEETING
Is God calling you to walk in the footsteps
of St. Francis of Assisi? Join us for our
meeting in the Franciscan Center on
February 22 to discern the call. We will
pray the rosary at 1:30, followed by our
meeting at 2:00. At our February meeting,
Fr. Thomas Gallagher, ofm will speak to our Fraternity.
We will be discussing a topic on Interpreting Genesis
based on pages 173-180 in Reading Scripture as the
Word of God.
The Red Cross is in need of the smiling faces that greet
community members as they check in to donate the
precious gift of blood. This role is known as a Blood
Donor Ambassador. At blood drives hosted primarily
during business hours M-F, Ambassadors make sure that
donors review important information about the donation
process and direct them to a nurse with questions they
might have. After community members donate blood,
the Ambassador offers them a snack and chats with
them as they relax for a bit post-donation. Ambassadors
also encourage donors to become volunteers

ROSARY DURING LENT
Please bring your prayers and petitions to be
placed before our Blessed Mother as we pray
the rosary each Friday evening during Lent. We
will be praying the four mysteries of the rosary.

SPSA MEN’S RETREAT AT HOLY FAMILY RETREAT
March 27-29, 2015
This year’s retreat theme is “Know Greater Joy.” By
attending the retreat, we will find answers to questions
like “How can I find happiness in a rapidly changing
world?” This renewing weekend explores how we can
discover deep and enduring joy in God’s presence no
matter the situation.

EASTER KIDS’ CHORALE
The Easter Kids’ Chorale will provide musical leadership
for the 10 a.m. Mass on Easter Morning in the Church!
Youth age 6 and up are encouraged to sing. We would
also love older students to help lead the younger
children.
The Kids’ Chorale will hold rehearsals on Saturday
mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on March 7, 14,
21 and April 4. There is NO rehearsal on March 28. Your
child should try to attend all of the rehearsals; however,
a minimum of three rehearsals is required.

Reception and Artist Talk:
March 5th, 6:30–8:00 p.m.
Sister Jo-Ann Iannotti’s exhibition displays both poetry and photography
in concert accenting the power of word and image. The artist,
wishes to draw viewers into the space between themselves and
the two creative expressions allowing the works to be “seen,”
as well as “read.”
Sister Jo-Ann wants viewers to think about conversations one
has with her artwork—poetry and photography—and allow for
transformation. Viewers are asked by the artist, “to make room
for the words and images. Listen to them. Approach them from
a distance and then draw closer.” These conversations do not
have to be demanding, rather they can be silent, unscripted,
non-judgmental and not sitting on either side of right or wrong.
These conversations provide an invitation for the unexpected
to happen—a transformation.
