My Trip to Quest Diagnostics
My Trip to Quest Diagnostics a coloring and activity book QuestDiagnostics.com/patient There are many reasons to see a doctor. Sometimes you are sick or have been in an accident. Other times you are well, so you see your doctor for a check-up. In this picture, find the boat, book, necktie, ring, kite, paintbrush, carrot, slice of pie, ladder, banana Sometimes your doctor wants to find out more about your health by testing your blood so your doctor will send you to Quest Diagnostics. When you arrive at Quest Diagnostics a person called a phlebotomist will take you and your parent to a private room. A phlebotomist [fluh-bot-uh-mist] is someone specially trained to take a sample of your blood. Let’s see how many words you can make from the word: PHLEBOTOMIST • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • When it is time to have your blood taken, you can sit in the chair alone or on your parent’s lap. The phlebotomist will wrap a stretchy rubber band called a tourniquet (sounds like “turn-a-kit”) around your arm and then clean the area with alcohol. You can watch or look away, but it is important for you to keep still. Draw and color a happy scene in the frame. You will feel a pinch, like getting a shot, but it will be over quickly. Try counting to three and blowing the pain away. At Quest Diagnostics, the phlebotomist will label your tube. You can write your name here. Your blood will go into a small tube labeled with your name. Afterwards the phlebotomist will put a small bandage on your arm. Later your sample will be picked up by one of our drivers to go to our laboratory. Sometimes it may even travel by airplane. Can you help them get the blood sample to the lab? WORD SCRAMBLE You have learned many new words on this journey. Let’s see how many you can find below: PHLEBOTOMIST TOURNIQUET BLOOD SAMPLE DRIVER LABORATORY AIRPLANE PATIENT DOCTOR TEST P W A H T O E N S B R Q V A H C X J M R E V I R D U T P L Q C J H Z L S Y P T I X P E N A L P R I A S E E T L A B O R A T O R Y U N Y C Q M O L X Z Y E K Q T Q E U S D T M P H E D I D O C T O R O O S Y C U N K M S O P D J B M S F V R D W L U T E S T E I X U U A B X B J C R S P F S Y O S A M P L E E G F R X T T At the laboratory, a person called a lab technician may look at your blood under a microscope to see your blood cells. Connect the dots to find what else you can look at under a microscope. Your blood sample will be tested for the information your doctor needs. Quest Diagnostics will send the results to your doctor. The results tell your doctor how to take good care of you. Red blood cells are round. What shapes can you find in this picture? Your doctor will give the results to your parent. Quest Diagnostics and your doctor work together to keep you healthy.
