Dear sisters and brothers in Christ:
While the leaves on the trees begin dying and therefore
showing the colors that were hidden by green during the
summer, God continues to bless. The mums are in bloom
and the rains are falling, and God continues to bless. As
squirrels gather nuts and birds fly south, God continues to
bless. The true Triune God is awesome!

Yet some people do not see God in nature. They are not appreciative that
God alone could create and sustain this world. Since there exist explanations
for phenomena, which only describe but do not create or sustain, they think
that these changes are just “normal,” not God-produced or God-sustained.
They miss the beauty of the moment and the majesty of God.
As God’s people who live in the Father—who creates and sustains—and the
Son—who forgives and loves—and the Holy Spirit—who continues to work
within God’s people—you might be sad because the summer season is coming to an end. However, God has blessed us this spring and summer, and
now he is blessing us this fall. Finally and ultimately, it is all about God, and
not about nature or us. Enjoy the fall season of harvest and cool nights, of
football and friendship, of school and work. God gives it all to us to celebrate
him each day!
Enjoy these fall days of walking in him! Give God glory for the way he
planned the world and all that is in it. Now the earth needs to rest in the winter, and as his children we can give him thanks and praise for what he has in
mind for his people in the upcoming winter months. Without this change in
seasons, those who live in the southern hemisphere would not have summer.
Don’t forget, in winter are all the celebrations around Jesus’ birth through his
resurrection and ascension, and then comes spring and another season!

Attention Ladies of all ages!
LWML is fired up and moving forward. We had a great turn out
for our 1st meeting on Tuesday, September 17th. A good time
was had playing a game, doing a bible study, sharing stories and
enjoying a snack.
Don’t miss out this month when the LWML Players put on their
1st skit and we celebrate the fall season with cider and donuts.

Mites are money collected for missions. We thank you for giving mites
so that many may know there Savior.

going to work for the kingdom of God. Keep the MITES coming!

Greetings fellow believers in the Christ at Emmanuel, I pray this finds everyone doing
the best they can with what Christ has given them. We do not know what God has
planned for us; we can only pray that He will give us the strength to stay true until the
end. One thing we need to remember, when talking to fellow members, is to question
what we are hearing and repeating. Is it the truth and is it firsthand information? We
all need to be careful not to pass on false information or change information that was
given to us. If we have a grievance with someone, take it to that person. Do not talk to
others about it.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. I would like to take this opportunity to encourage each one of us to express our
appreciation to Pastor Schultz for his ministry here at Emmanuel and to keep him in our prayers. While pastoral ministry
is in many ways the most rewarding profession, it is also one of the most difficult. In today’s world many pressures are
placed on pastors, from expectations of people to do the things they want and to do them the way they want them done, to
an expectation that there will be an immediate response to needs and situations and circumstances, to the pressures of present day society and its influences. God has invited pastors to be the earthly caretaker of the spiritual well being of His
people. We place enormous expectations on our pastors to be available 24/7/365, and to be all things to all people, role
models, perfect in every way. They are also husbands, fathers, grandfathers and leaders of their own earthly families. Let
us celebrate the ministry of Christ that our Pastor brings to God’s people in our congregation, not only during this one
month of the year, but throughout the year.
Thank You Pastor Schultz for your ministry to the people you serve and to the Lord of the Church. You are truly a Blessing!

The Mission Sunday speaker that we had scheduled for September 29, 2013 is unable
that day which requires a change in our plans.
Pastor Schultz found a replacement. Pastor Bob Smith from Frankenmuth will be our
Mission Sunday guest speaker on October 13, 2013. A free will offering will be taken and
a luncheon will be served will be served after the service.

Please consider the benefits of attending Sunday School for your child as well as yourself. Here are 10 reasons to make it a priority
in your family.
Age Targeted Teaching: Where else can your kids get Biblical instruction that’s focused toward their developmental abilities?
Friends: In Sunday School, your child will build positive friendships with their peers by discovering God’s Word together.
It’s Fun: Sunday School is not Disney Land, but our teachers do work hard to teach the Bible in ways that are relevant and fun
for kids.
Spiritual Mentors: A dedicated teacher can be a Christian role model who supports you and helps inspire the faith of your child.
Systematic Bible Learning: Our curriculum is designed to give a broad foundation, so children will understand how all the parts
of Scripture point to Christ.
Praying Teachers: Our teachers consistently pray for your child’s faith to grow. Coming to Sunday School gives another occasion for God to answer those requests.

Members & friends of Emmanuel are invited to our Fall Festival on Saturday October 26, 2013. This is a joint
adventure being planned by the Boards of Education, Youth & Fellowship. The night will kick off at 5 pm with
a kid-friendly potluck, followed by mask making, pumpkin trivia, an adult vs. kids Ten Commandments mixer,
& a game of Guardian. Trunk or Treat will be held just before dusk, so bring plenty of treats to share. Our
evening will conclude with a bonfire, sing along & s'mores, so bring your sweatshirts & chairs to help us celebrate our Fall harvest of blessings! We'll provide the s'mores ingredients, cider & cooking sticks. Look for an
announcement to be distributed at church for more details. Call any board member with questions......hope to
see you there! Please, no scary or devil-themed costumes at this event. Trunk or Treat participants please
park in the central lower lot; those not wishing to participate in trunk or treat, please park in the upper lot or
along the side driveways.
BIBLE STUDY
SUNDAY NIGHT WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY – 6 p.m.
We are currently studying TALENTED, TIRED, BEAUTIFUL FEET: A Bible Study for Women by Deaconesses
Phyllis Kersten and Louise Williams. We have looked at our individual talents and how those talents, when combined
with the talents of our brothers and sisters in Christ, are so much greater than what we could accomplish individually.
“The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.”
Quoting: “There is a great variety of gifts among God’s people. There are many sizes and shapes of feet, and they
are good at different kinds of steps.
It is impossible for us to measure the significance of all these gifts. Only God can do that.”
Please join us as we look at our “Tired, Beautiful Feet” in the weeks to come. We meet in the library or the last classroom on the main level. Copies of the Bible Study are available in the library.

I would like to thank Ken Huner for presenting a Thrivent workshop to the youth group and their
parents entitled “Parents, Teens and Money Matters” during our meeting on September 16th. It
was very informative and we learned a lot – Thank You Ken!
The youth group has been growing pumpkins in the garden spot behind the Parsonage. We will
be harvesting them and selling them in the weeks ahead. Please watch the church bulletin for
more information about our upcoming pumpkin sale.
Youth Group is open to all youth in the 5th grade through the 12th grade. I would like to invite
all the new 5th graders to join us for youth group meetings on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each
month at 7:00 p.m. in the youth room. We are gearing up for another year filled with service
projects, group outings, spiritual growth, youth fellowship and plenty of fun - so please join us!

Scouts
During the month of September, the Cub Scouts held their last campout of the
year at Camp Sequoia in Tecumseh. The boys did a service project for the campground,
painting fences and cleaning up a couple of fallen trees. They had a lot of fun and tried
out some new meals – pie iron pizzas, grilled pork chops and tacos. It was quite a
change from the usual hot dogs and hamburgers! Thank you to Sequoia for hosting the
Pack several times this year, as well as the parents and volunteers who make it happen.
Without you, the Pack would not be able to offer the opportunities for the boys to learn
and have fun!
The Troop has also been busy this past month, returning from their canoe trip in Alger, MI at
Cole Canoe Base. Four Scouts went, along with two adults, and they had a great experience. The
group did an 11-mile journey down the Rifle River, stopping partway to set up lunch. The weekend of
September 20-22, the Troop headed for Fort Custer National Guard Base in
Battle Creek, MI, for the 2013 Fall Camporee. The troop planted trees on the
base as their service project, participated in activity stations, and watched Food
Network star Alton Brown demonstrate cooking skills (including roasting an 8pound marshmallow!). It was a brief weekend, but well worth the trip for the
guys.
Coming up in October… Popcorn season has
started! The boys will be out and about at the grocery stores
in the area on Saturday mornings in October selling popcorn
as part of our annual fundraiser. We’ll also be setting up after
church on Sundays in the library on October 6th and 13th.
Please stop by and support the Scouts – over 30% of the
money raised goes directly back to our pack! This money is
used for campouts, community service, rank advancements
and other fun projects. There is a great selection to choose
from – everything to satisfy your sweet tooth, feed your snack
craving, even military donations are available for those who don’t eat popcorn! Thank you for supporting
your Scouts!
Pack 707 would like to welcome our newest Cub Scout – Luke Masterson! Cub Scouts is open to boys
in grades 1st through 5th, or ages 6 to 11. Boy Scouts is open to boys in grades 6th through 12th, or ages
12 to 18. If you know of anyone who is interested in Scouting, please contact Mike Gwilt, or Johan Isaly,
or stop by during our Pack/Troop meetings and check us out! The Troop meets Mondays at 6 pm, and
the Pack meets Tuesdays at 6 pm, both in the Fellowship Hall. More info and pictures can also be found
