Michigan Chapter, Short Wing Piper Club November 2013 Bill Green, Treasurer Dave Schmelzer, Vice President Garry Butler, President 3604 Aster CT. 4479 Welch Road Midland, MI 48642 Attica MI 48412, 989-274-1683 810-724-8157 [email protected] In transition. November 2013’s meeting was held at the Gladwin Airport Terminal Building. Left to right— Ruth Ann Reynolds, Clyde and Marion Grant, Garry Butler and my d o g P i p er. Pictures taken by Laura Butler We had ten folks show up for the meal downtown and meeting at the terminal. Don Lashuay and his Son Rod from Illinois flew Don’s PA-12 in from Midland. Rod is visiting with his four sons. Clyde and Marion Grant were our hosts. They drove in from Beaverton. Clyde says he doesn’t fly much any more and then corrected himself to say he does fly twice a day or so. He says he flys off the handle, but we all know that isn’t true. Or maybe we should ask Marion, ha, ha. Bill and Chris Green drove in from the Mancelona area. Bill and Chris are building at lakes of the North. Bill says he has the airplanes in the hangar now. He has flown a color tour and recently did his biannual, but he is concentrating on getting the house ready to move into rather than flying. Ruth Ann Reynolds drove in from the Clare area. She told us about the Clark A. Reynolds Memorial scholarship at North Western Michigan College in Traverse City established from the sale of Clark’s Tri-Pacer. The story was bitter/sweet as we all knew and miss Clark very much. Al Leyrer drove in from the Alpena area. Some how while Al was speaking, the recorder was turned off, so to hear the rest of the story you should make it a point to attend next months meeting, but I believe Al said his airplane wasn’t flying and he was on the way to visit his son in the Saginaw area. Bob Harrington from Midland says he has done a little flying, but has spent most of his time working on his house. Dave Schmelzer from Midland came with Bob Harrington. Dave says he and Bob sometimes fly Bob’s Vagabond to Gladwin for lunch. He mentioned that Bob flys one way and he flys the other and somehow he seems to always get the cross wind landing. Page 2 Michigan Chapter, Short Wing Piper Club December 7th meeting and Christmas party will be at Zehnders in Frankenmuth. It will be in the Heritage Room. The room will be open to us at 10:30 am. We will start at 11 am Bring a gift to pass if you want to receive one. Frankenmuth has an Airport just East of town and I will come to pick you up if you fly in. If you need any information just call me on my cell at 810-706-0043. Laura and Garry Butler from Attica, we were on our way North with another load to our new home. I’ve since moved my airplane to Grayling. I was seeing 160 mph at 4500 ft on my way there, but I really paid for it on landing. The wind was so strong I had to get in and set the brake when it started to roll away at the gas pump. I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and we will see you in Frankenmuth.
